I'm currently working on a client/server and p2p system for communicating between PDAs/laptops, etc, over Bluetooth or any other installed wireless hardware.
As far as the 'passiveness' that is mentioned, Bluetooth is ideally suited to this. You can tell a Bluetooth device to 'scout' for other bluetooth devices, and when one is found a connection is made. From there it's pretty easy to enable file-sharing (sending files is built into the Bluetooth SDK) with a small Napsteresque application...
Storage space is still at a premium in portable machines, though, and a full-blown Napster style thing won't happen until the new standards (SD, Microdrives, etc.) grow in size.
Do they really KNOW he was playing games for all 7 hours? Maybe he just hit puberty and was trying to blow his own trumpet, choke the chicken, strangle the monkey...
Although it *will* be good fun... it's not currently available to download.
Oh well:)
Pulse is currently not available for public download. It is in its beta phase and is currently undergoing tests by a group of friends on the internet. This will be the place to download Pulse when it goes public.
Individual items sold for upwards of £500 on Ebay.
I knew a few people who sold their accounts (sometimes even single *characters*) for upwards of £10,000 ($14,000). Eventually there were people who only built up accounts, then sold them... They could get an account to ~$10,000 in value in around a year.
~$10,000/year, for a kid who's in college, it's not a bad salary at all.
A bit sad, really... just now I was hitting 'refresh' every second, and every time it reloaded the counter had gone up around 15-20 times...
Interesting that someone should mention this :)

I'm sure it is possible. Not easily, but I'm sure it is.
/. croud can find some, post haste ;)
Maybe using DLLs, or whatever. But there's no previously reported complaints via any search engine (tried a bunch of them).
But I'm sure the
Jesus christ, bro.
It's 60,000 bytes big.
We're talking minimum 27k filesize if it's a VB application (which it probably is)
Is the remaining 33,000 bytes big enough to contain full key-stroke logging, back-orifice-style, screenshot-capturing, cdrom-drive-opening code?
Bah... this looks like just some guy having fun. Don't be such a bore.

I used to play Asheron's Call (another MMORPG).

... most of it spent on poll-scamming bandwidth.
It runs just fine.

w/ GeForce 2 Ultra, on an overclocked 1.6ghz Athlon CPU.
No lag or resource drain to mention...
Thought you were talking about Counter Strike.
The answer is, of course, there is no alternative to Counter Strike...
Yes, yes?
You bastards already slashdotted it... gah!
Us slow European types would like to have a go at it too...
You'll have to have a GeForce3 card to show the desktop.
But, hey, atleast you'll be able to shoot the icons with a rocket launcher or another Quake3 weapon of your choice...
Do you think he'd take requests for a Playsation 2 Portable?
:)
Now *that* I would like.
I wonder what the consumption is like for the PS2's circuitry...
