You know, this would work, until your wife decided to screw with you and throw it on the roof above the living room.

I always found it easier to just find the cable lines. Because they are pretty much in every room, you can just tie the cat5 wire to the cable line along with some string. Go up to your attic and just pull the whole thing up, then untie the cat5 wire and pull the cable back down with the string. They even sell face plates with both an ethernet port and place for the tv cable. That way you dont have to put more holes in the wall. Just a lot easier in my opinion.

Economics, Even though the physical costs are not great, the amount of money that they are "losing" is really great. If you are a company you need to also think about the money you could have made selling that software to someone who would have paid for it. Or if you give them it for free, you have lost money that you could have made if you had lowered the price enough so that they would have purchased it, or waited until they were able to acquire the money to buy it.
The only other thing to think about is if later these schools are going to need to upgrade, and then be forced to pay for the upgrades when microsoft is no longer giving them free software. So although it may "cost" them today, they would make up most of these cost in the future, and by doing so establish a greater domination in the industry just by having more people familar with their operating system.
Although one thing I have never really understood about this whole argument about Microsoft and there monopoly is that anyone with a computer in their garage can develop something better than Windows.

Good idea, we already have the white pasty/drugged out look going for us, staring at our monitors 24/7 and never going outside. This would be an easy transistion to becoming a crack dealer and user.

Exactly right, we must not run in fear, but rather find those responsible. If it is found that bin laden was behind it, there is no need to have any more American lives lost going after him. Just the President coming on national television with a monitor next to him with a picture of a missle silo in Colorado saying "We are bringing you this live, Afghanistan I am not expert on this type of stuff, but they tell me after 15 minutes, we can no longer disarm these nukes that will be launched at you, and will hit your country in 20 minutes. So you better get ta crackin on finding him, because the way I see it, you dont have much time." I am sure something to this effect would produce results...effective results is a different story.
