The only reason that streaming services haven't completely phased out Blu-rays is the fact that a majority of the consumers don't have a fast and reliable Internet connection.
To be honest I don't see that changing very much in the next 5 years. ISPs will continue to throttle the crap out of a user's connection. Does Netflix etc. only stream movies, or can you download them to watch later?
With Slashdot's new "Flag comment as inappropriate" feature, Geeknet will soon have to hire more staff to check out all the content that we start posting:P
To be honest, having different terms and conditions for every service that Google runs must have been quite confusing for a lot of people*, so consolidating them into one package does make sense.
I can however understand the problem with Google now being able to use data collected from one service and now using it in another, but if all they're doing is using it to target us with more specific ads then I don't really care.
* I've never read the T's and C's and to be honest I reckon only a very small number of Google users have.
It just seems a bit gimmicky to me. Maybe in a few more years it'll be common place, but at the moment it's something you show to people and then go back to entering information by hand.
That these days you can just stick an Apple logo on something and the drones will buy it.
Did anyone see the alleged iPhone 5 prototype images last week? Someone on Facebook posted them and people were going apeshit, saying how great it looked and how much they wanted one. It was completely impracticable to use, but that didn't matter because it was the new iPhone.
I'd like to see more Sci-Fi movies getting a nomination for best film, but from the looks of things unless it's about 9/11 or the War on Terror(TM) you're just going to be passed over.
Hotmail's spam filter is the worst in the business. It frequently places confuses spam and ham and what is worse is that sometimes it seems to think I'm on the mailing list of said spam list and automatically displays the content.
What staggers me is the number of phishing attempts that get into the spam folder, they should even be getting that far.
The only thing Hotmail is useful for is signing up for things that are almost certainly going to send spam.
Every time the subject of Ubuntu comes up on Slashdot I see a slew of comments complaining about how bad Unity is and what they've done to Gnome and how they're jumping ship for Mint I think "OK, so why not just use Kubuntu instead?", but now they've dropping funding for Kubuntu it looks like even more people will be moving over to Mint too.
I only update to the LTS versions of Kubuntu but if Precise is going to be the last one then why bother? Mint 12 came out a few days ago so maybe I'll just move over to that instead.

(I'm sure other Londoners will agree with me here)
I'm still baffled as to why CrossRail have decided to add a stop at Whitechapel. The place is a complete dump.
A neutrino walks into a bar, orders a pint, drinks it and leaves without any fuss.
I still don't understand, isn't this a browser exploit that needs to be fixed? What's stopping another website from doing exactly the same thing?
So... just use Paypal?
Next week on Slashdot: PayPal ships millions of PayPal Here dongles to Iran.
As unpopular/controversial/dumbed-down as this is, I'm looking forward to a console port of this game, particularly if it features local multiplayer.
Those games aren't hard, modern games are just too easy.
Anyone played Demon's Souls? That's how hard games should be.

I've never heard that one before, not sure I should look it up at work either :)
You know that Mint is based on Ubuntu, don't you?

I don't need a vaccine, I can quit any time I want. It just stops me shaking, that's all.

You're kidding, right?

I suggest they do self immolation.
Hilariously, your comment was modded as Flamebait.
Looks like all their money has been Lost In Music.
Seriously, there's very little to work with here in terms of comedy, I'm doing the best I can with what I've got.
Maybe one of my fellow Slashdotters can come up with something wittier? After all, We Are Family.
I think the red fedora is about to become a pink glittery one :P

ensure instead that we never again return to those times
Then perhaps pardoning him would be a step in the right direction?
Whats the crater on the bottom right with the PLUS + sign thing in it?
Bloody hell, Google's taking the social networking war to the next level.
No hidden Nazis, Communist strike force, or Transformers.
Since no one of them no longer lives in Sweden, they won't go to jail.
I'm so confused, I think they're saying that because they don't not no longer live in Sweden, they won't not be going to jail?
My head hurts :(
Looks very complicated, but I suppose that once you've built your first you can simply use it to build all future printers for nothing.
Suckers :)
