Do you feel it's wrong to use this opportunity to attack on of two viewpoints? I'd say that it's immoral to once again dilute the meaning of a word -- "his childhood was bad" has probably been an excuse longer than you or I been alive. It may be a cop-out, but it's hardly a liberal one.
A single victory means absolutely nothing in the grand scheme of things. Especially in a case like this, where the deck is so obviously stacked somehow. One genius and a group of random kids versus teams from engineering schools -- you can argue that they won, but you can't argue that they are neccessarily the best.
Competing against people who have spent years of their lives deeply immersed in the study of their fields, the high school students may have, under normal circumstances, managed to get a few edges in a few categories, but the fact that they managed to dominate in nearly every category is extremely suspect.

Stupid: believing that there are only two sides to any given issue, point of view, or belief -- even binary logic has a "no mans land" between high and low.
It looks to me like this is a case of some ridiculously talented high school kids. They had some really good ideas and put them to use. The physics nerd really came in handy.:P
On the other hand, it's also possible that there was a lower standard for a bunch of high school kids, whether intentionally or not. Let's face it, seeing some ghetto mexican kid spouting off about fluid dynamics and phase shift of helium aargon lasers is damned impressive -- much more so than a couple college students speaking at the same level, and that could certainly have been a factor.
Anyway, considering that the MIT kids probably didn't start college as physics prodigies like christian or skilled in mechanics like the guy I'm too lazy to check the article for the name of, they certainly got their money's worth -- I know how to program reasonably well, does that mean that people who get compSci degrees are wasting their money? Others are great at electrical without schooling, does that mean that I'm wasting my money in EE? No. If it did, then we wouldn't have schools.

And for further proof that their claims that Linux was based on Minix are nothing but baldfaced lies: Aren't liars nice? The history of how Linux got it's name (from a ftp site operator who thought freax sounded gay) is well documented elsewhere.
I'm on about the truth, and the more I see liars getting away with it, not just in this niche of computers, the more I want to do something about it. Human discussion cannot take place in an environment so hostile towards the truth.
People who want to vote conservative, aren't. The fact remains that under the cretien liberals we've seen back to back surpluses, whereas under the mulroney conservatives, we got 8 years of back to back defecits culminating in the doubling of our national debt. Is it Trudeaus fault? Could be, but the rate of debt increase went up, not down under the conservatives, but somehow the cretien liberals managed to reverse that trend entirely.
Demand Better, vote for change -- are these really the slogans of a conservative? They're just left wingers who want to change things for the worse.
Same goes for most "conservatives" today, who see the results of twenty five years of a certain set of ideas and think it's time to try something different.

The people who would lie or misrepresent information to decieve people don't care about facts, that much should be obvious. Trying to use facts in a fight against them is like bringing a knife to a gunfight -- you'll always be outclassed if you have to rely on reality to back you up.
These are the liars who said that Linux.1 was based on minix code. They've also done clandestine PR work for the tobacco industry. At what point are they chronic enough liars that you can just point to them and say "don't listen to them, they're unprocessed human waste"?
98lite is a great program that allows you to customize windows far more than microsoft intended. It allows you to remove Internet Explorer (as well as a TONNE of other useless options installed by default) and change the shell to either a more limited 98 shell or the original Windows 95 shell.
Even though I don't use 9x based OSes anymore, whenever I have to do a 98 install, I ALWAYS use 98lite. It really improves the OS and makes it less error prone, even if you don't take advantage of the 2 main functions.
As if these IM generation kids need to be taught about a keyboard.

Communism and socialism have inconvenient morality so resources tend to be wasted, while capitalism only allows those who can provide to pull resources back out of the system. This may not be fair from a moral standpoint, but it allows society as a whole to be more efficent by forcing those who would be wasteful to be more mindful of that which they consume, and through good government, makes workplaces safer by providing economic incentives that do not exist under communism.
If you think capitalism is bad, move to china for a year. You'll be cured.
