    Explain to me how performing areodynamic tests on an enterprice model while they're working could hurt their chances of finding women.. I'd just like to know what sort of manly areodynamic tests these scientists could have done to somehow magically score some women in a social setting.

    Making good money as a professional researcher, you'd be really suprised how many of these guys have wives. It's kind of a sad thing to see(choose your own reasons why), but it's true.

    ...And you're telling me you wouldn't enjoy dicking around with something like this while on the company dime? It doesn't look like they spend more than an hour or two doing this, so I don't see a problem with it. Hell, they probably even got the OK to do it from management first, seeing as it made it to their webpage...

    Or, since as I mentioned in another post, friction could very well be a factor with something big enough to carry 400-800 people travelling at a multiple of the speed of light(frankly, I'm wondering how they'd stop a hydrogen buildup similar to a sonic boom from forming and causing some real damage to the systems they're travelling to or past), so it could be that they're aerodynamic because they're warp-capable.

    There is matter in space though, and at speeds of many times the speed of light, the forces of friction would undoubtedly come into play, as the number of particles impacted over a time period would increase exponentially, and the amount of energy they absorb quickly becomes non-trivial.

    Move your hand slowly, and your hand won't feel much resistance. Move it quickly, and suddenly the wind will become a factor slowing you down. Imagine this on a larger scale.

    Could it be that I'm another person altogether, and not everything you see is some silly trolling conspiracy. I've begun to realize that he's absolutely right in many ways, and I've decied to use that to my advantage. Of course, you're probably just some kid who thinks that my posts actually matter more than they do...or doesn't recognise the true, insidious nature of my posts.

    I'll tell you what. Graduate from high school, maybe form an opinion or two without slashdot holding your hand while doing it, and I'll listen to what you have to say. In the meantime, Stop replying to my comments. Just because you're not intelligent enough to find meaning in my post beyond the most superficial "ooh, I agree", doesn't mean it's not there. Try reading his journal as something other than bragging, and you might, just might, begin understanding the horiffic beauty of what I'm doing.

    Let their kids have their fantasy. Sure, OSes that even in their now ancient, dilapidated state could mop the floor with Linux were trounced by MS, but don't worry, because somehow this little upstart OS with the usability of a used condom will be on top in three years!

    Sure, if you bother to have the latest and greatest.

    The fact that you even need to block executables et. al. tells me that Microsoft really dropped the ball on E-Mail security, and now they have to clean up their mess. I've been using e-mail for well over 10 years, and until we hit Outlook and Outlook Express, I never had to remove any executables to protect my system from viruses, so why should I need to now?

    What you need to do is recognise crap for crap in all it's incarnations. Just because Microsoft released a patch doesn't suddenly make this piece of crap decent, especially when it's suddenly not even doing as much as my 10 year old Eudora Pro 16 bit can anymore.

    You have to face facts -- many slashdotters just can't keep it in their pants long enough for a product to even surface. Look at all the "preview of something not coming out for five years" stories on slashdot. The Athlon 64. Linux palmhelds. Doom 3. by all rights, nobody should give a rats ass about these for a good long while, but luckily for the developers of these things, theres a nice, willing focus group willing to talk at length about something that might never even exist.

    Probably because they've seen nothing but smoke and mirrors since the initial ".net is the greatest" media blitz way back. I know that I still don't know exactly what the hell .net is, and frankly I don't care because nothing I use seems to have it anyway.

    We'll just have to see if making longhorn based on it is enough. I mean, windows 3.1 was pretty useless without winG or win32s, but only guys like me with long memories for useless junk would even remember what they were.

    Why not? If he's happy with it, he should stick with it. Personally, I wouldn't use linux even with the free price tag because I don't feel like computing as if it's 1975, and as such I haven't bothered with it since Windows 2000 arrived on my desk, but if he wants to compute like that, more power to him.

    I think the truth is that these so-called "Linux zealots" are actually windows users who are venting because they're anxious to get the new version of Windows. I mean, you don't see me making fun of Red Hat release dates, do you? That's because I dont' want Red Hat.

    All the anti-microsoft folks who got off on this kind of joke stopped caring about it because it stopped being funny shortly after november of 1995.

    Outlook is pretty stable, just don't try receiving any mail with it.

    Before you try to say I'm wrong because you can do whatever mojo needs to be done to make it secure, ask yourself why you bother with it when there are other mail programs out there that don't need to be patched or tweaked to hell just to avoid viruses.

    I'll believe it when I see it. This is the company that said Windows ME would be as stable as NT while being as easy as 9x. In the meantime, I'll figure out why the hell I should be getting excited over a 3d accelerated Gui.

    I'd guess that the people still whining about the BSODs can't convince their parents to buy them a system that will run their haxx0r3d copy of Windows XP, or they're not swift enough to try runnig ad-aware to get rid of all the spyware they've installed.

    As an aside, any linux user can tell you, those freezes you claim to have experienced never really happened. It was hardware, or software, or solar flares, or crappy drivers, but not Linux. As you are no doubt aware, only 'M$' can put out software with bugs, security holes, or design errors of any kind. Every other OS, whether it's by an international group of programmers, or some 12 year old in his basement coding pure spagetti code, is infallable and indestructable. Even OS/2 1.0.

    You know, you're right. We need to kick anyone out of development teams who has ever said something like "We need to have a 'My Computer' icon in KDE or Linux will NEVER be ready for primetime'.

    Then replace those people with people who might actually be able to make a decision about where to go without looking at the nearest commercial software for catchy acronyms and shiny objects.

    It's a nickname for IIS. It's specifically designed so hackers can break into it by asking politely.

    Firstly, the GPL does not automatically assign copyright to the FSF.

    Thank God for "If I'm not mistaken". Saves me every time. :)

    SCO can trash talk the GPL all day without violating it.

    If they are saying that the GPL is void while distributing GPL software, it seems to me that they don't agree with the terms of the GPL, and therefore have no distribution rights. I mean, it's either they agree with the GPL and are allowed to distribute their Linux distribution, or they officially disagree with the GPL and are breaking the law. They can't say "well, we agree with OUR software, but don't agree with YOUR software" when it's the same software, and the same license, they're referring to.

    I agree with your sentiments, but only for software that isn't fundamentally broken in the first place -- I mean, do you know how dangerous a dull, rusty, utility knife is? Imagine if some company advertised it's knives as safe, and somehow managed to hide the fact that it was dull and rusty, and in doing so, made your work much more dangerous?
