Paying them enough to avoid temptation of bribery isn't practical in most situations. Publicly traded companies are slaves to the shareholders; they won't stand idly by and let them heap cash on the replaceable drones on the off chance that they could pass secrets along. Even if they're six figure earners, a competitor can alway ante up enough cash to turn an employee into a spy.

I'm reminded of this letter I saw in the NY Times in 1999 likening the coming of the internet to the downfall of the english language:

    To the Editor:

A Feb. 20 Arts & Ideas pages article on the Internet's effect on language failed to bring the potential negative and positive consequences to their logical conclusion: the widespread acceptance of informal dialogue on the Internet is creating a generation of Americans fluent in unrefined, inexpressive and immature English.

Much as certain dialects of English have helped create subclasses of second-class citizens, frequent Internet users are becoming easier to pick out every day; they blurt out thoughts in staccato, almost barbarian fragments. Elegant grammar is beside the point; complete sentences are rare enough.
  6. Re:If you value your country, you need to be on Worst Ever Security Flaw in Diebold Voting Machine · · Score: 1

Electronic Voting machines are not a trustworthy technology. They can be made reasonably trustworthy, but only with significant and constant public involvement and oversight.

All well and good, but how can you be sure that the machine you're using is running on this certified and scrutinized firmware? You can't tell by looking and you jolly well can't dick around with the machine to find out. By its very nature, it requires a leap of faith that this thing isn't rigged. At least you can pop open a lever machine and see if the mechanism is working correctly. The electronic ones use a foreign language that is not intuitive to anybody but the programmer set; you can't see and touch the problem with a touchscreen machine.

That should scare the tar out of every one of you, regardless of your political bent.

Given the polarized "us vs. them" political climate, nobody will raise a stink if its their party that wins using these machines.

If the artists actually owned their music, they would see some decent money. After being pressured by the label, being told that there are a thousand more waiting in the wings to sign on the dotted line, lest they pass up the "chance of a lifetime", they'll sign anything, including the part about the label owning the copyright to their songs.

This is why you don't see a lot of mainstream artists endorsing the trading of their music. It usually isn't theirs to trade anymore.
