Which further proves that the grammy awards are useless and meaningless.
Of course, any awards group that would award "Best Hard Rock/Metal Performance" to the Foo Fighters over friggin Dream Theater is already a laughable joke..
This was a Grammy Trustees Award, not a Grammy Award. The Trustees Award goes out to individuals who, during their careers in music, have made significant contributions, other than performance, to the field of recording.
What career in music? What contributions to the field of recording did he make?
He made a huge contribution to commercial distribution of digital files.. That's it.. Not Grammy worthy.
Did I miss the Steve Jobs Christmas album or something?
He didn't have anything to do with making music. He helped create the first wildly successful internet based digital media sales/distribution system.. But replace the music files with porn movies and the premise is the same.. He was selling access to files in a repository.. It had nothing to do with making music.
This is just another group trying to rape his image for publicity.
It doesn't compare to FlightGear. FG is built with a focus on simulating the physics of flight.. It's seen some really nice improvements in the eye candy department as of late as well.
Plus, with FlightGear, it's free, as in freedom, and as in beer, as in "here's the source code and all the artwork!"..
There isn't a market place to buy new locations because the ENTIRE PLANET is available for free in FG. Not to mention hundreds of planes, from gliders to cargo/passenger jets, WWI bi-planes to WWII fighters and bombers, to F-15's, etc.
Local weather phenomenon, real-time real-world weather conditions from live METAR data on the internet, multiplayer support allowing you to fly with people all over the world, all free.
All for free... Any other flightsim is pretty much DOA as far as I'm concerned.
Sandisk pretty much has my money on music players these days..
Between the Sansa Clip+ and now the Clip Zip, they have the perfect mix of simplicity, compatibility, storage expansion options, and sound quality that sets the standard for all other players.
Dirt cheap, microsdhc slot, arguably the best sound quality in the market, and supports MP3, AAC, Ogg Vorbis, FLAC, and suck WMA..
And rockboxable if you want to..
I've pretty much abandoned everything else in favor of these guys..
Go find a cemetery that is 100+ years old and look at the number of graves of infants and children under 15, then compare that to a modern cemetery.. Conditions, diseases, and injuries that would have meant death 150 years ago are treatable today. This yields an ever higher percentage of the population which are "defective" and would never have survived outside the influence of technology (I admit I probably fall into this group). This group now, more and more, makes it to puberty and then passes those defects on.
But, back on topic, these people are just bat-shit crazy hypochondriacs.
I find it comical that this post was made by someone with the following as their signature, "If humanity is to survive, we must pledge to eliminate all carbon dioxide from our atmosphere by 2030"
Panic much? I hope that sig is a joke..
My trees would all cry if they knew of your insidious plot to suffocate them.
Music purchased from their music store doesn't apply against your storage limit. They will store any amount of purchased music for no extra charge.
Unless they changed their rules since the last time I bought music there..
Now, I no longer buy music from Ubuntu One Music Store due to the multitude of problems I've had with the service.. I've made 4 purchases, 2 had billing issues along the lines of double billing me, or billing me and never transferring the music to my storage space.. And a 3rd transferred an entire album of corrupted files. Even after deleting and retransferring them from 7digital they were corrupted in exactly the same way.. After the 3rd strike, I washed my hands.
Now, their customer service always made it right for me, but still, a 75% failure rate is pretty abysmal.
I'm as atheist as you can get and I'm very much monogamous.
It's not some superstition that drives me to be only with my wife. To me it's a matter of commitment. When I accepted my wife, and she accepted me, I committed myself, mind and body, to her. I live my life, for her, and she lives hers for me. I don't believe I can truly feel or be committed to her if I lust after and engage other women.
She is the focus of all my energy. I work every day to improve her life as much as my own. When I contemplate an action, her benefit outweighs my own. I strive to make sure that in all things she can always know, without question, that she can trust me.
I will never bring home an STD or a child born of another woman. I can trust that when we do our thing, I won't be catching anything we didn't already have. What she does for me, and gives me, is for me alone. Just as what I do for her, and give to her, is for her alone.
I wouldn't change it for anything, and I truly feel sorry for people who don't share this level of commitment within their relationship.
I have 4 18GB 10krpm Seagate Cheetah U160 SCSI drives I bought in 2000, and which have been run 24x7 virtually ever since (other than brief down times for maintenance, etc)..
That's roughly 87000 hours of run time on all 4 of them, with no failures. I retired them this past March along with the RAID controller they've been married to all this time. I retired them not due to failure (though the bearings in one sounded like the end was drawing near), but because I needed more storage in the server.
The sound is so choppy it's essentially noise, and it causes my FF4 memory footprint to triple. This is on a 1.6GHz Pentium M with 1GB of RAM..
Just another example of our wonderful ability to come up with ways to waste immense amounts of computational power. It's completely ludicrous to write a decoder in such a high level interpreted language.. I was playing mp3's on p200's, and whoever did this managed to waste so much time executing bloat that a 1.6GHz cpu can't plow through it in real time. This thing would probably take 2 weeks to play the 1st minute of a song on a p200.
Yep, we can write an mp3 decoder in javascript. But, should that really be our goal?
Then please stop breathing. The EPA has determined that the gases you exhaust with each breath are a pollutant that warrants federal regulation..You are screwing up my climate.
How far are you willing to sacrifice the freedom of you and your children on the alter of environmental worship?
You'll find few people more opposed to religion in general than I. Having said that, I don't have a problem with them receiving these tax breaks as long as the same tax breaks would be available to any theme park.
I see no difference in providing tax breaks to a park based on fairy tales about snow white, and one based on fairy tales about an imaginary man named god. The legislation involved just covers parks that can increase tourism for the state. As long as there is no preference given to any particular type of park, then no foul.
You won't catch me trying to force you to pay for anyone's medical care.. That being said, it's not justifiable to use the fact that we live under a socialist system as a reason to oppress others. If you ride that train you'll find the track ends at government enforced control over every single aspect of your life because virtually EVERYTHING you do can potentially have a cost which can be passed onto society under a socialist system.
Life for an ant starts at fertilization, and I have no problem dropping terrific amounts of poison on their homes.. A cancerous tumor has life, but I'm not going to use the business end of a gun toted by a government thug to force you to live and die with it.
Where you see a human, I see a slug of flesh with no sentience, and incapable of independent survival without leeching off the organ functions of the host. I won't be marching on Washington to force you to continue carrying an unwanted tapeworm, and it has about the same mental capacity and life experience as a 1st trimester fetus.
Well, I consider myself a libertarian and I'll explain to you my positions on both of those issues.
On Marijuana (or any drug for that matter).. It's not my place, your place, or anyone else's place to restrict how another person chooses to live their life, so long as they are not directly harming another by their actions.. I can't think of any situations where someone sitting in their chair taking bong hits and watching South Park while eating cheetos qualifies as directly harming another person.
It's called freedom. Look it up.. It's a good thing.
On abortion.. No person has a right to tell another person they are not allowed to attempt to remove a cancerous tumor, parasite, or any other growth that the person does not want. A fetus is nothing more than a clump of tissue growing within and feeding off the host. It's hard to pin down the point at which that clump of tissue deserves protection under the law as an independent human being, but logic forces me to conclude that independence has to be the primary factor. With that in mind, I would say the only reasonable answer is to have the medical community come to a consensus based on medical science and technology, on the average stage of development of a fetus at which it has a greater than 50% chance of survival, with no major defects, outside the mother.. That point can be reviewed from time to time to account for medical advances. Once established, abortion before that stage is perfectly fine, after that stage is murder.
Is it perfect? Nope.. But it's a *reasonable* balance between the right of a person to exercise medical control over their body, and the rights of an independently viable human before birth.
Ever had a house fire where the fire department showed up and hosed it down? Everything in the house is basically a total loss either way. Between heat damage, smoke damage, and water damage, it all ends up on the scrap heap. So yes, he probably still would have lost everything.
He said he would pay them... $75... It probably costs more than that to turn the key on the water pumps.
It costs more than $75 an incident to fund a fire department. That's why they spread that cost out over the out-of-jurisdiction subscribers at $75 each. If they would show up and put out fires and just take a check for $75, then NO ONE would pony up the yearly fee, and that per incident fee would rapidly go up to not $75, but more like $75,000..
This fire department would not even have driven to the scene, at all, if one of the people who had subscribed hadn't called them to make sure the fire didn't spread to his house. Exactly as they were supposed to do.
Charge them $1000? Ever tried to squeeze blood from a turnip? Especially when that turnip just lost all it's possessions and probably has no other insurance? Not to mention the strong chance that the turnip can and will just bankrupt on your bill?
They don't look like money hungry dicks to me.. They look like a fire department operating within a budget and providing the services they were contracted to provide to the people who contracted them to provide them!
in my area my government confiscates my money and a portion of that is used to fund our local police.
I'd much rather have the option to keep my money and pay for a private police option. That way I can have enough control to ensure my money won't be wasted unjustly imprisoning people for non-crimes like drugs and prostitution. Of course if I tried to not pay the government their shakedown money, they would send those same police to beat it out of me or throw me in jail and confiscate my private property.
Having said that, our police should not venture into another area and provide their services to people who are not being pillaged to pay for them.

I ripped my collection to FLAC, and when I listen on a computer that's what I play.
When loading it onto a DAP, I transcode everything to OGG Vorbis at -q2 (~96Kbps) using SoundConverter http://soundconverter.berlios.de/
Works great, and I routinely transcode 10's of GB to our DAP's and phones.

he'll learn to pay the fee once they haul in his next doublewide.
His neighbor had paid the fee so the fire department came out and hosed down the neighbor's house to make sure it didn't spread to it.
Sounds great!! Let's turn over the rest of our health care to the same governing body!!!
Oh wait..
I miss Rainbow magazine.. I keyed in many a game from that magazine on my trusty old coco2 and coco3.
