Well, actually it does appear to be. The actual article gives as an example the removal of critical government systems from access, not limiting citizen access to the internet. Admittedly it is still a stupid sounding idea since you don't need a single kill switch, as the article also points out. It is definitely good to be skeptical and to keep a close eye on government abuse, but this doesn't seem like what everyone is jumping to make it out to be.
Have you actually tried this? I just did. I intentionally biffed the passcode 6 times and it locked the phone for 1 minute. After the minute was up I intentionally biffed it again. It then locked the phone for 5 minutes. I did not bother to complete the experiment.
You can't get rid of your data that quickly. It makes sense. Otherwise some joker at work could get hold of your phone and cause you instant grief for the rest of the day.
I mostly agree with you. However, from the article:
"Under US securities law, if more than 500 investors hold a private company's shares, the firm is required to register with the SEC and file public statements.
The exclusion of US investors is unlikely to affect plans for Facebook to raise the $1.5bn, although it will mean some wealthy individuals and companies being denied a chance to buy into a fast-growing firm."
It kind of looks like the people who could really benefit from an IPO would already have been excluded. Just like always. So, I'm less inclined to be upset about this.
App Store...the home of people riffing on ideas the way humans have always done and users discovering those ideas due to the great exposure they can get now.
Anyone who played the ancient cannon game would resonate with this. Two cannon, placed on opposite sides of the screen, take turns firing shots where the angle and velocity is variable. Very satisfying for such a simple game.
"apple does great innovation! But they need the competition"
I can't tell you how much that pleases me to read that. For so long all PC users could croak out was how little market share Apple had. Now that the shoe is on the other foot the PC crowd has had to find different reasons to make slurs about Apple products. Keep in mind that we wouldn't even be having these smart phone or tablet discussions if Apple hadn't broken those markets wide open for everyone else to follow.
You may not like Apple products, but Apple is setting the pace of the game.
I almost agree with you. However, when you "annoy" someone using illegal/unethical means you kind of lose the high ground. Just because it is a "good" cause doesn't mean one should abandon one's principles. Just look at the Bush administration and torture.
Besides, it is a tactic that is non-lasting. Real change takes real work and time. But I think most people would rather wait until the situation is out of control and then take drastic action rather than do the hard day-to-day work of keeping freedoms alive.
Or you could just put it in your closet for a couple of decades and sell it at one of those camera shows that are constantly being put together somewhere. It will then be an antique and a conversation piece.
It's the same gene. It is located immediately next to the Santa Claus gene and the Tooth Fairy gene.

As far as I'm concerned, all is forgiven with the release of the Magic Mouse.
Yeah, with Apple's terrible track record at UI this will probably bea complete disaster....
Are you kidding? I love the Magic Mouse. Perhaps you haven't tried it.
That is with that setting enabled.

Gort! Klaatu barada iPhone!

I just hope I don't get the Blue Veil of Death.
All I can say it, I'm not letting you pin this one on the Beatles again.
There is no medical definition of "insanity." The insanity defense is strictly a lay concept.
"Not Guilty by reason of insanity shouldn't exist."
Especially since "insanity" has no medical definition. It is entirely a colloquialism. You will not find a definition of the word in the DSM-IV.

I linked to an article about OLPC 1.5. However, this more recent article states that they are continuing to use a Fedora-based OS.
According to this website it does.
"OLPC and Red Hat continually develop the Fedora-derived OLPC Linux operating system."
"and these discoveries require people pouring over data for extended periods of time."
Well, only if the data is from the Big Dipper.
I'm not sure what you're talking about when it comes to the vcard. I send and receive them all the time on my iPhone.

Nothing against David Lynch, but as the saying goes, there are more things in heaven and earth than are dreamed of in his philosophy.
Nothing against R2-D2. He was a fine actor.
Well, that doesn't make it any less informative. :-)
