WIRED: It's been more than a month since the first news of Download.Ject, and you still haven't issued a real fix for Internet Explorer. How long is it going to take?
In case anyone is wondering about Download.Ject, check this link out. It's only a matter of time until a high-volume site gets compromised with this exploit. Scary stuff.
VeriSign responded by issuing a press release stating that the federal court system doesn't really exist, and that all other domain registrars must purchase a license from VeriSign to continue to sell domain names or face litigation.
I wonder how long it will take for the writer(s) to regret this one. I mean, look at the demographic most likely to own web cams and leave them connected to their computer. Would you really WANT to spy on them?
Now, if you could get your ex-girlfriend (or boyfriend, whatever) to install the trojan...

Fair point, but if an OSS application with a large user base had spyware/malware in it, we'd hear about it on Slasdot and the project would fork.
I guess I should have said I recommend OSS software that I *trust*. So, yes, we're offtopic -- but it's a nice idea.:)

No wonder the author of TFA said us Slashdotters think authors/supporters of spyware "should be burned at the stake".:)
Exactly right! Which is why I've been drilling into my 100+ users as many Win32 open-source alternatives that I can find. Everything from using 7-Zip to replace WinZip to using Firefox to replace IE.
Of course I'd fall over dead from shock if they all listened. But I do have more than a few converts, which is a small victory I'll take!
This isn't specific to online apps, but rather one that was posted (computer TTS). Something I found interesting were different voice synths for different languages or accents.
How to make the MS "Merlin" agent more annoying? Give him a French accent!
I agree with you completely. It was a simple omission on my part. Who knew missing the damn "=)" would cause so much grief?!
Well, I guess I should've known. If you even slightly insult an OSS program on a site like Slashdot, the flammers are a-comin'!
Anyway, I think MOST people read it as a joke. At least I hope so. =)
I was kidding, dipshit. =)
Download.Ject information is actually here. The exploit referred to above is actually the "what a drag" exploit. Still pretty scary if you ask me.
Anyway, the editor (me) regrets this error. =)

Sadly, Firefox isn't affected.
I was waiting for that reply. =)
Three minutes... Not bad!

That's got to be the funniest thing I've read all day! Thanks.

I'd say he's trying to get rid of his Mother-in-Law.

Dude... it's about getting your boss to buy useless crap for your office, not about productivity.
It'll go nicely with my nerf guns, huge pile of empty soda cans and my blacklight-lit office!
Er, wait, I don't live in the college dorms anymore. Nevermind.
Since they require X10 hardware/software, forget it. I won't be supporting those damn pop-under ads.
They'll look great next to the bean-bag chairs and the espresso bar.
I'll ask my boss when he gets back from playing golf with the VC group.
Obviously SCO is now resorting to the "LALALALALA I CAN'T HEAR YOU!!" defense.
Okay, now THAT is funny. If I hadn't written the g'parent post I'd use my mod points on you. :)
