My bad, you're right. It's called the Trackman Marble, not the Marble Trackman. I should never post under lack of sleep, especially when the thing is right under my hand and clearly labeled. Doh.:)
But you're right about the rest. I love Logitech hardware. I've bought all my keyboards, mouses, and even a nice new digital USB joystick from them. It's all a tad on the expensive side, but hey, it's the price one pays for quality.
Democrats are small-l liberals? I always thought that the Democratic Party was more equivalent to the canadian Liberal Party, just about in the center of the whole spectrum (despite the name).

I always liked their Marble Trackman+ for gamers on a budget (like me). No more lifting the damned mouse up and dropping it on the other side of the pad. It's wonderful for all 3D shooters, and X loves it. I don't know about durability, but it's worked perfectly since Xmas for me.
The only problem is the wheel: ditch the wheels and put in real 3rd buttons, I say. Either that, or replace the wheels with hat switches so those of us who use more than just web browsers can scroll in all directions. A mouse hat switch under the Gimp and Photoshop would be *real* nice... Any ambitious homebrew hardware people out there?
This may sound heretical...

...but am I the only one on this planet who hates The Sims?
The (alleged) AI in this game seems no more advanced than some expert system based Starcraft clone. Was this just a testing ground for Maxis to play around with neural networks, and happened to become stable enough to release as a game? This game needs to go through a little more improvements to the neural network before it even comes close to what a real human would do.
That, plus the fact that the premise is so *dull*. Oh, joy. I get to simulate a person who gets a job as a medical test subject or a race track announcer. Yeehaw. Woohoo.
Oh, please. I'd much rather spend time blowing away enemy starfighters in X-Wing Alliance or giant robots in Mechwarrior 3 than guide a person around a house, doing chores in The Sims.
Considering that these things run WinCE straight from the Evil Empire, I think they should be called SITH: Soldier's Information and Tactical... um, H-something...
I haven't seen much of the site yet, since it's/.'ed all to hell, but if the designers haven't given their working model a name yet, I propose "Alphonse". Patlabor fans will understand why.
Well, it's more like a lot of nerds *make* a lot of money. I don't know of any fellow geeks who actually have a large bank account, what with frequent purchases of "toys" and all.:)
As opposed to nowadays, when Asia's in a depression and Europe's at war.:)
Not flaming, just commenting on how much things change, and how little they change at the same time. "Plus ce change, plus ce meme choses" I think it goes. Please forgive my awful French, it's been years since I've been in school... Isn't there also a Chinese expression about "May you live in interesting times"? Nowadays, things sure are interesting.
Totally offtopic, and just me ranting, but it doesn't really matter since the topic's offtopic as well by Taco's own admission. Ah, I need sleep...
>General fanfic writing groups also know what the >produces think about the fanfic world and try to >work with them (read MST3K:-) ).
I'm glad someone mentioned MST3K. Everyone who's ever lurked in creative newsgroups knows that 90% of fanfics are crap, right? A lot of people give some of the worst ones the Mystery Science Theatre treatment, known as MSTings. If you're into anime, give SVAM a try. A lot of the stuff they do is screamingly funny. They're under reconstruction right now, but it's worth seeing when it's back up.
It was about an advanced human civilization that had become completely dependant on computers. Humans were unable to even do simple math, so when a government researcher discovered an old man who could perform math in his head they government was amazed. They started a crash program to discover the ancient arts of handwriting and computerless math. Apparently the humans were in a stalemate in a war against another similiar civilization, so they thought that this new amazing science of "graphitics" (I think that's what it was called) was thought to free up the need for computers in warships, thus enabling them to build ships faster and win the war by sheer numbers. The old guy, heartbroken that his hobby was used for the purposes of war, kills himself.
I don't know if anyone cares at all, but there it is. Does anyone who recognizes the story know who wrote it? I'm sure it was in one of those old sci-fi short story collections my father and I enjoy reading...

Jinnai's great. He's my all-time favourite male character. Some fans may castrate me for this, but I think his english dub voice pulled off that laugh better than the original actor. I can actually imitate his laugh fairly well. Scares the hell out of my classmates. ^_^
You remember Sabre Rider too?! My family keeps thinking that I'm making up false memories whenever I mention it. Thanks for reassuring me that I'm sane.:)
Gunbuster had a few geeky scenes. Those "science lessons" at the end of each episode were pretty messed up. Sort of "A Brief History of Time" meets "Babylon 5, if you can imagine such a thing. And Noriko is an otaku! Mucho excelante!
A lot of my fellow geeks love the good giant robot shows. Gundam Wing, Evangelion, Macross Plus, etc, and some of us love the really cheesy ones. Yelling out "FORM BLAZING SWORD!!!" at the right time will reduce us to tears of laughter.

Give Devil Hunter Yohko a try. It's an older six-part series from A.D. Vision, but it's very funny and pokes fun at the whole magical girl genre.
One of my favourite scenes is in part three, when the star of the show, Yohko, is doing her obligatory speech before her transformation sequence. The monster she's facing attacks her during the speech, and she yells out, "Hey! I only had one more line to go!"
Another good scene is in the first part, when she's having a swordfight with an evil vampire queen. The queen slashes her sword across Yohko's chest, tearing her dress and revealing a generous amount of cleavage. Yohko looks down, then narrows her eyes at the queen and says in a very unimpressed voice, "Don't you think that was a bit much?"

Oh, how I cheered when Sailor Binome bought it. And that Gilbert and Sullivan parody was just too cool for words.
Don't forget about all the cameos that Tux makes. It's true! Tux is in just about every other episode, mostly walking along in the background.
I love Mainframe Entertainment. They know how to do *good* CGI shows, like ReBoot and Beast Wars. The producers of all those other crappy shows like Voltron 3D and numerous other immitators should take a cue from the folks at Mainframe and spend a little more time on each episode... a shame, since some of the Babylon 5 animation guys work for the company that makes Voltron 3D. I expected more from them.

I don't know, Ezri seemed like a refreshing change for a new character. Instead of a super-genius who could do everything, there's a nervous and scared young woman who has no clue at all what she's supposed to do in her new situation. I think some of us can relate to that. She's sort of like the DS9 equivalent of TNG's Barclay. Plus, Ezri was rather cute.
