yeah, but can you fix the source of those bugs in OSX server?
I mean, if you're not an Apple employee, that is...
(I particularly love Apple's workaround regarding the CGI problems with Apache: don't run CGIs. GREEEAAAAAT... Nobody uses _that_ old technology anyways...)
BTW: OSX Server is currently for sale for $499, and is _not_ a beta version..
The neat thing about this, you could get footage of like Dan Rather picking his nose or Tom Brokaw cursing someone out.. Didn't someone put out a video of pre-feed outtakes?
Yah, but isn't that the pre-(preferences|moderation) version? Why not make the site itself an open-source project? I don't want to go tinkering with an old branch and make tweaks or fixes, when that work's already been done...
It seems so, though I'd still like to see the source.. There's various problems rendering pages in Netscape on linux/solaris/winXX, and I'd like to see what's doing it..
IIRC the 466MHz alphaserver is 21264-based but with reduced cache.. The microway 21264 dual processor server runs $15k, but each 500MHz cpu has 2MB cache.
The highest I've ever seen was on a RS/6000 model 370 doing Sendmail 8.6.x duty.. The box got up to a load of 160 before crashing.... Granted, it was because of a nasty tight script loop (which wasn't mine, honest!!) and didn't reflect a realistic situation, but lord knows if I wasn't on a 3164 I would have gotten a screenshot (had to go terminal because everything else went to shit)..
My Linux laptop is regularly loaded > 2, but that's because it's usually doing a kernel rebuild at the same time as a KDE rebuild (or a GTK rebuild, or a wild attempt at a Mozilla build, or....;)
and don't forget, they had to pay for their video, pay for the studio time, pay for the promotional stuff, etc. etc. then the lawyers, managers, etc. etc....
They probably were lucky to net $80k each from that album.
Unless you've already twisted the industry's arm (like REM, Led Zep in its day, etc) or gone and started your own industry (TAFKAP, Fripp), you are going to be royally shafted by record companies....
I suppose.
;)
But isn't that like saying "I'd rather have my nuts crushed in a vise than scooped out of my scrotum with dull spoons"?
Why not just load your favorite *ix-based OS and be done with it?
ps: Anyone know what I can do with an MPE/iX box, besides use it to keep doors shut? SAMBA comes to mind...
Fair enough.. Then how about a PCI interface to ;) ;)
the dish and Linux drivers, and let US worry about the copyright issues..

Besides, OSX * is not quite ready for prime time... More QA needs to be done...
MacOSX Server decently stable?
;)
Two words: CGI scripts.
I have hardcore Mac'ers here twitching apoplectically about this, particularly when I show them my CelticGreen KDE laptop..
btw: check out this site.. You can get refurbed NeXT equipment, though I don't recall if it comes with a full development kit..
I recall the folks at NYC's MindVox used NeXT..
Don't forget Newton!
I'm _still_ waiting for a PDA that's half as useful as my trusty 2100, and which doesn't have catastrophic bugs in the OS..
I must admit though those Casio E100s are looking pretty tempting..
The neat thing about this, you could get footage of like Dan Rather picking his nose or Tom Brokaw cursing someone out.. Didn't someone put out a video of pre-feed outtakes?
That's for starters..
BTW: which version is this? Shoudl I still download pre0.3 or wait until this is released?
Thanks,
Hmm.. Jurassic Park?
"It's a Unix system! I know this!"
Why not permit WinXX developers to use Perl instead of VB? I'd love to see Perl embrace and extend Microsloth...
Win32::* should be OK, with attribution in perldoc... I wonder if we'll get to see Win32::MFC::*?
(Hardly.)
What about LDAP?
Hmm, 6 jobs in 5 years, nope, I don't take stupid/evil management lightly..
Flat rate CDPD from Bell Atlantic runs 19.2kbps for $50-$60 per month.. Try muxing a dozen of those in the trunk.. ;)

I'm going abroad, and I'm taking my Digital8 cam to shoot video postcards.. Now I can send them home in G2!
Read the licensing agreement. You can't use those docs to create server functionality.
