One thing I would suggest.... Get your wife and daughters to cook together, film or document the recipes. Make those meals as many times as you can with them. It's one of the things that continues to live on after a loved one leaves us, the memories of making meals together, combined with the family recipes that make them unique and special. Every time your daughters then cook that meal or recipe, they will be reminded of their mother.... And as they pass those down, they will pass down the stories as well.
And as others have stated, keep up hope. Miracles do happen.
I wish you all the comfort that your family will be able to receive in these trying times for you.
I used to like the MacDevCenter..... They used to have a nice flow of good articles.... But now it is just blog posts of a handful of people ranting or raving about what's cool/uncool this week. It has really started to disappoint.... I wish they would get back to the in depth articles showing how to use the tech in the OS. The articles are key.... There are plenty of blogs out there now. I don't need another one spouting useless information (like hey, did you know apple has free music downloads!) Show me how to do something cool.....
Well, it's not a shadow, and anyone who thought it was would be a horrible image analyst. Look at the ground shadows, and you can judge the apparent position of the sun. If the top of the image is north, then the sun is shining from the southwest, producing shadows on the top and right areas of the objects depicted. The plane would produce a similar shadow, but instead the image we see is to the bottom and right.
Now is it the time lapse between channels recording? That I don't know. But it is an interesting question...
I wouldn't be so much worried about losing money, but more worried about losing security of my ATM card and my PIN. It's actually much more than a keypad, it has the ability to read, store, and transmit data. I bet some there would be a way to create the ability to steal card numbers and PINs. Anyone remember the story about false ATM's being set up in malls, etc, with the sole purpose of stealing ATM card data and PINs. Would be much easier if you could do it right on the banks machine..... see http://www.snopes.com/crime/warnings/atmcamera.asp and http://www.snopes.com/inboxer/scams/atmtheft.htm for some other examples of what people are willing to do to steal card info....
Another great site for satellite imagery is the Naval Research Lab - Monterey website:
http://www.nrlmry.navy.mil/tc_pages/tc_home.html
Make sure you do full investigation of the site, there is so many features that I can't begin to list them. It is basically a clearing house for any imagery generated for forecasting. Tools to animate however you wish, etc. Seriously, spend some time to check it out....
what should have been done. There are many excellent description of what caused the event, and what was done wrong to produce the event, but I still haven't found any explanation of what the response should have been to stop the accident. Can anyone comment, or have a link. And I am talking about fixing the problem once all of those safeties were removed. Was this a recoverable condition that they hadn't trained for, or was the outcome unavoidable....
This proprietary language developed by Graphisoft (makers of ArchiCAD) would be a good place to start. As a 3D format, it would be great. It already has a web plugin architecture. From the website:
The Geometric Description Language (GDL) is the foundation for intelligent building objects. Continuously developed since 1982, GDL represents mature object technology, with tens of thousands of highly parametric objects available and in use around the world. Intelligent building objects are important to architects because they accelerate work, make project management easier and allow them to design instead of draft.
GDL contains all of the information necessary to completely describe building elements as 2D CAD symbols, text specifications, and 3D models for calculations and presentations. GDL distinguishes itself from other electronic object descriptions in that it requires very little programming experience - it was designed to be used by architects, after all - it is compact, and library parts are easy to customize.
Intelligent building objects behave parametrically. Parameters simply are rules embedded in the object that govern its appearance and behavior. A window might have parameters that allow the architect to define its height, width, number of panes, material and frame style. A wall might contain parameters to define its composition, surface, finish, height, and construction to other walls, columns, floors and ceilings. Parameters can be changed at any time and the complete project will be updated.
I really think that having a truly useable 3D interface requires that the environment spread from the monitor to something more. The mouse alone is reason for this. Getting a user to master a 3D environment in an application alone can be troublesome. Add that to the rest of your GUI, and you have a real problem for most....
I think the real solution lies in creating and making available a 3D interface (data glove, motion tracking, etc) and creating a cubicle that would create a large immersive environment for a user. Something like a CAVE. Then you can recreate and provide the kind of spatial organization that would really be groundbreaking. Then possibly a paperless office could become a reality.
TetrUSS is a suite of computer programs used for fluid dynamics and aerodynamics analysis and design. The TetrUSS system was developed at NASA Langley Research Center during the 1990s to bring the state-of-the-art in computational fluid dynamics (CFD) to a higher level of utility, and is geared towards novices and experts alike.
Not sure if it is what you are looking for, but works both on PC and Mac OS X
You forget the cost of cooling..... It is possible that the number is correct, but I don't think that it is very inefficient.
Cooling takes lots of power, as you can see when the US has a hot summer and the grid and power plants struggle to keep up with demand.... The nodes do not consume that much power, relatively speaking
The policy of not hiring SCO employees is actually somewhat inteligent, and I would be surprised if other companies did not follow suit....
Bear with me for a moment....
By hiring a SCO employee, and knowing SCO's current mindset (sue for money), I would not be surprised if you got a knock on the door six months down the road from SCO counsel asking for a code audit, thinking that the former employee must have given your company some IP knowledge due to past experience at SCO....
So by not hiring an ex-SCOer, you would be keeping yourself from being exposed to such risks.... not at all unfair.... and good thinking
I tend to belive that there will be some developments on this front in the next release or two.... especially with the newly released distributed compile tech... I tend to think that is a testbed for some more distributed computing apps coming our way....
I am sure if you contacted the RIAA, and told them your collection of 5,000 mp3's had been taken, and are now being illegally shared around the world by the crackers, you wounld get some immediate results.
Well, I believe it is the simple theory that most like working for themselves, rather than working for others. Also, I tend to believe that many who have started a project will want to control the project to the point of being stiffling to those that may want to contribute. And when you are contributing time and energy for free, you surely don't want to have to deal with getting shot down on ideas and implmentations. So I doubt we will see a convergance of efforts on any project. The ones that will succeed are those that are managed by people that have a good understanding of collaborative work ethics, and can manage people and resources effectively. And having contributors that have a common goal in mind.
Well, depending were you are located, the walls might be a very good place to put them. If you notice, solar panels aften need to be oriented at specific angels (depending on your location on the Earth's surface) to provide maximum efficiency. If you have ever driven on US 70 through Frederick, Maryland you would see the BP Solar bulding, and notice that the outside wall is slanted (not sure of the angle) and covered with panels. At that lattitude, I think it is somewhere in the 30 degree angle neighborhood. If they are ever on the roof of a commercial buillding (flat roof) they are on stands to provide the optimum sun catching angle...
So let me get this straight, the President puts a stop to a potential strike at an airline, california's government, along with help from the feds, finances the power companies to stay afloat, and data communications get nothing. This is just as important as electricity today. This is really going to suck. As a flashcom/northpoint customer, I am getting hit with a double whammy.
I would hope that some authority would step in an give a grace period until this is wound down and people's accounts are resolved and transferred. You can't cut people off cold like this. What a freakin' mess..... I can't believe this. How could a snafu happen like this? Nice of all of my providers letting me know. I have a serious amount of egg on my face.

Apple specs for the XServe dual processor max cinfiguration have maximum power consumption at 244W
I doubt that the G5 dual processor is much more than that. I haven't seen power consumption data for the G5's yet.

There is a Palm Sync Extension... Available here
It will support a variety of palm checkbook apps, such as Pocket Money, Splash Money, and the Palm Expense app..
Works well...
Good Luck
