Pick up a cheap Linksys or Netgear firewall and be done with it. No desktop computer should be exposed to the Internet.

My policy in helping people out is the usual AdAware/Spybot/Firefox/hardware firewall advice cocktail. I then tell them not to bother me again if they don't switch completely over to Firefox and install a hardware NAT box...why should I take time to help you if you don't follow through?

The idea of the stereotypical gay person didn't exist until the 1800's; it's a relatively modern social constuct. Before that time, people were still doing heterosexual and homosexual acts with one another, but they weren't characterized by that one trait.

To put things into perspective, it's like defining Linux and Windows users into two different types of people. Of course, you know what that makes those who dual boot :)

(I do a little SFAS 141/142 work and know a couple things about this.)

Not exactly. Goodwill only shows up on the balance sheet as the excess over book value you paid for another company in an acquisition. "Brand value" is just a subset of that. Your own company's goodwill is inherently reflected on the *income statement*, to the extent that you are generating earnings.

If another company came along and bought Google, then Google's "brand value" would be reflected in the goodwill account of the acquiring company.
