Cute, but the IRS doesn't collect Sales Tax. That's a purview of the State and Local governments. Most localities also have exemptions specifically for people who have a garage sale and similar endeavors.
Of course, it might be funny to see the local tax collectors shaking down the neighborhood kids when the open their lemonade stands in the summer...
This is a good example of just in time manufacturing. However, as was pointed out, it's fairly meaningless for the giants who never run out. Then again, if they could ONLY burn what they are going to sell, then Sony wouldn't be left with 10 million extra copies of Michael Jackson's latest CD after selling only 2 million. That alone would boost margins by eliminating waste.
The reason we still have awards ceremonies is simple. It makes money for the industry. If people stop watching then two things happen. One, no more advertising revenue. Two, no more manipulative tool to get people to go see movies that they wouldn't have otherwise seen ('Gee, it was nominated for five awards, it must be good, I'll go see it!').
The Academy Awards long ago ceased to be about who was most deserving to win or be nominated. If indeed they ever were about that at all. They are not much more than a cliquish popularity contest and a way to make political statements.
In a way this mirrors the failure of the recording industry to 'get it' in our rapidly changing times. The entrenched establishment of the music and movie industry is so hidebound that nothing short of dramatic reform (i.e. tear it all down and start over) will probably fix it.
As CGI and other digital effects become more and more commonplace, there will have to be a change in perception by the Academy (aside: Do they teach something? I thought Academies were teaching institutions???) or they will become increasingly irrelelvant. Already, to many movie lovers, the Oscars are more of a joke than anything else.
Just my not so humble opinion. Your milage may vary.
Hyperthreading was apparantly included in the silicon for most if not all P4's, but is physically disabled on all but the Xeon and P4 3.06+ CPU's. There is no way to enable it on your 1.8.
Reusing Microsoft's copyrighted BIOS code and patching it to mod the box is a copyright infringement. A 'clean' BIOS that uses no MS code doesn't face this problem.
It has nothing to do with how you use the device you bought, and everything to do with hacking someone else's copyrighted code.
This is a good developement for those who want to legally use alternate BIOSes on their XBox.
The sad thing is I think you really believe what you are saying here. The government's primary job is defense, not to give jobs to people, and those 5% that you cite pay 90% of the taxes already, so they SHOULD get a break. Sadly, you are the product of too many years of badly run public education.
Russia has far more oil and is more than willing to sell it. Iraq's oil reserves are not the largest in the world, and oil has little to do with the current situation. Or are you suggesting that we let a crazed dictator who is more than willing to gas his own people give the same capability to the various terrorist groups he's supported over the years?
I'm not a huge fan of the current administration, but it's a lot better than the last one. Bush might not be as pristine in character as his PR folks try to make him look, but he's lightyears ahead of his predecessor in the departments of ethics and moral character.
You've got it backwards actually. Servers tend to have lots of random access, so they need low latency. Modern games tend to stream a lot of data, so bandwidth becomes more important. There is a reason why the P4/RDRAM combo excelled at Quake 3 Arena; oodles of bandwidth.
Streaming applications: bandwidth is the most important Apps with lots of random memory access: latency is far more important.
I'm glad we are starting to see at least SOME reasonable rulings from the bench. I'm hopeful that Free Speech will prevail. You can't stuff a cat back into the bag once it's out, and it's high time the recording industry realised this and moved on...
Except they aren't getting cheaper, just more powerful. A state of the art card still costs $400+ and probably will for the forseeable future.
On the other hand, today's so called 'budget' cards are far more capable than they used to be, so in that respect prices (with regards to price/performance) have gone down I suppose.
LAN parties are fantastic. With a good group of LAN gamers I can share the price of the beer and strippers and not have to spend as much money as I would if I were alone playing online. Not to mention it's more fun howling at the strippers in between games when there are other people around.

There are, you just can't buy them anywhere. Several hosptials are testing them as a means of helping people shake off the foggy after effects of anasthesia faster.
Again I said LOL, because you make me laugh. I might be a little crazy, but not because I play Q3A. Now if I said I played Counterstrike, THEN I'd be lame.
LOL! No, I actually play it on my W2K box. I'm OS agnostic, not a religious zealot like many here. I have Linux boxes, Solaris boxen, and Windoze boxen. I find that Q3A runs better for me on W2K.

Good points. You should be modded up!

So it's ok to steal as long as you don't get caught? How morally bankrupt of you :-)
This is a troll. Enough said.
Does anybody really think the RIAA won't be getting a cut of this? Of course they will.

Isn't this a little like Darth Vader going after Satan? Or the reverse???

Welcome to Slashdot, where hypocracy reigns supreme.
;)
This isn't a troll, just an observation based on facts. If you mod me down just because you disagree, I would submit that YOU are the troll
You are either an idiot or an ATI fanboy spreading FUD on purpose. Geforce 3's and non-MX GF 4's fully support DX 8 (and 8.1).
Imagine a Beowulf cluster of these!

Now I know what my wife will have done with me after she has me bumped off!

You are just a cowardly troll. I'm probably older than you are! Of course, I am young at heart. Now go away, I think your mommy is calling you ;)

Nah, I tried that. I drink my ale out of a fairly heavy glass tumbler. It broke the damn thing off! They just don't make things like they used to...
Add a refridgeration unit in the base so I can store beer/soda/etc. and then we'll talk.
I -hate- having to get up when I'm on a hot streak in Q3A, just to get more beer. Damn that beer! Give me a chair with a fridge!!
