    You're either trolling or an absolute idiot. Lasers are an order of magnitude more accurate than any projectile weapon. I really do hope you're just blissfully ignorant and not a troll.

    Laser weapons as they are being developed just don't work that way. The pulse is actually quite short when applied, and the target goes boom. You've watched way too many science fiction movies.

    They are also far more accurate than kinetic energy delivery weapons (big bullets).

    That plus some advice. Do your due diligence first. Blindly accepting a coding project without at least taking a cursory look at the code isn't very wise.

    That's like saying Windows is the best for what it is used for because it has a large market share. ARM is prevalent in mobile devices because when smartphones and tablets started to rise in popularity Intel at the time had no low power option to use as their answer to ARM. I'm not so sure ARMs 'days are numbered,' I'm just pointing out that numbers does not necessarily mean ARM is the best at what they are used for anymore. Intel has closed a great deal of ground in that regard.

    ARM processors are not MIPS architecture. The latter still exists and has little in common with ARM other than both being RISC.

    Nobody is making you pay for them. If you aren't going to spend more on shipping than a Prime membership then don't get said membership if you don't want the other features.

    Adjusted for inflation $1mil is barely enough to retire if you plan on living off of an annuity based on accrued interest. It certainly wouldn't sustain a standard of living that I'd want for the next 40 or so years that I'll probably be alive. The poster who said $3-$5mil was right on target for maintaining a middle/upper middle class standard of living while allowing for the future rise in costs. Could it be done on $1mil? Sure, you could probably live modestly for 40 years or so on that. You'd have a cozy, tiny place and adequate if uninspiring food. Most people want at least a little more than that.

    I'm not interested in Bitcoin either, but let's be fair. No fiat currency has any intrinsic value either. In the case of the US$, it hasn't been backed by anything of material value for a long time, since we went off the gold standard.

    If that was humor it was a fail. Or maybe you were serious and don't understand what 'OpenGL version' means as opposed to other software ;)

  17. The worst I've seen in terms of potential risk was the admin password on a customer's primary firewall cluster. It was the same one I had used in class for the labs when I taught it, even though I'd admonished the students not to ever use such a weak password. It was qaz123.

    I had another client using a different firewall vendor who used q1w2e3r4t5. On their production Internet gateway.

    Thankfully it's also a myth. It never stopped me at least. I haven't played in years now except occasionally, but from about '76 through '86 it was one of my favorite non-sport pastimes, and it never got in the way of getting girls :)

    I'd mod you up as well if I had points today. Sadly, the days when this was a site full of resourceful DIY geeks are long gone. It's not quite as bad as reddit yet but it's getting there.

    I know a lot of people who do similar home-brew solutions. You shouldn't be getting any heat for your suggestions, especially since you even offered a suggestion that was NOT a DIY.

    Just a guess, but it worked for me! No whinging here about such a trivial matter. I mean, if you are seeing this site anyway, you are definitely online...

    That's a bullshit answer. It is standard practice in good writing to say what an acronym or abbreviation means the first time it's used. Afterwards using the shortened version is just fine.

    Just keep pumping out decent games and don't fuck up the next major console. The 3DS is their lifesaver until the next refresh.

    Is that why they are going to post a loss? A company can't rely on aging products to survive these days, at least not in the technology/entertainment sector. I'm not declaring them dead, but they are hardly doing well.

    Sure, I've used VNC and RDP with VMs as well. It all depends on what I want out of a given VM.

    I use qemu now but when I used to use VMWare, I never bothered to install VMWare tools on any guests. It seemed much easier and safer to just use my own script that would use ssh with password less key auth to shutdown, reboot or what not guests.

    Do you really need VMWare tools?

    It depends on one's individual needs. If you want better graphics/sound support, copy/paste support, seamless use of the mouse, and other features then they are great. In practice I only install them some of the time, mostly for desktop type guest OSes.

    It depends on what the VMs are doing. Having more physical processors to run threads on helps a lot in my case, where they usually involve running multiple hosts simulating client networks, with a few of said VMs doing lots of packet processing.

    It also hasn't been established that the D-Wave is at all a quantum computer. They've refused to say how it works in that regard, and there has been no proof that any quantum entanglements even take place inside the box.
