I didn't say a single thing about the commercial production of it so I think you are debating with the wrong person. I spoke of the production of it period, not necessarily commercially.
I pay for my own healthcare and I didn't have wealthy parents yet I'm against publically funded healthcare. Why, you ask? It's because it is NOT the Government's job to be our nanny. People need to care for themselves. If someone truly cannot do so then yes there should be safety nets, but the health care of the bulk of the population should not be paid for by their fellow taxpayers. Get a fucking job and earn some money and care for yourself.
Yeah I'll get modded down but I'm sick of everyone with their hand stuck out wanting 'free' this and that.
Do you have any idea how much work goes into producing a book? If you want a book that was just published recently you should be willing to pay the price. If you're not then vote with your wallet and wait for the paperback or for the copyright to expire (yes we need to fix that, I know.)
Sadly authors don't get the lion's share of the money, but they get a LOT more for the first runs (hardback, ebook, etc.) than the residuals from cheaper paperbacks once the book gets older.
I agree; those are both ridiculous gameplay elements. I've always thought it was amusing that FPS players, arguably the cutting edge of photorealistic video game graphics and game physics, don't see a problem with characters behaving like a Loony Tunes cartoon.
They are fucking games and nobody every claimed that they were supposed to be 'realistic'. They are about having fun, not simulating real world physics.
You missed his point. 'Almost all' being peer reviewed means some were not. That's just plain bad science, as is the whole anthropogenic climate change arguement.
I wasn't defending De Beers. They have engaged in 'business practices' that are akin to that of organized crime. I was simply pointing out that they are not a monopoly. Reading comprehension is important and you need more practice.
One of my laptops is a 4 year old Gateway and it's battery still lasts close to 2 hours. The whole 'batteries always wear out fast' meme is based completely on ignorance.
De Beers doesn't have a monopoly now; it's an urban legend. They do control about 50% of the diamond market currently, down from past years, but they are not a monopoly. It's still a popular myth though.
That was funny in a sense, but also very very sad. There is a growing population that would have a very hard time using a pen and paper. I know you were joking, but I see this as a problem. The more one grows to rely (as opposed to just using) technology the more one is incapable of taking care of oneself when deprived of said technology.
I'm all for tech obviously or I wouldn't be in IT and wouldn't post here, but your 'joke' just underlines how weak and soft people are growing as they increasingly rely on tech that could go away in a heartbeat.
One big EMP and there would be a bunch of geeks milling around not quite knowing what to do as they slowly starve to death staring at their smartphones waiting for them to turn back on.
Oh I'm sure it would work as well or better. My point was that this particular application would hardly be revolutionary. I'm more interested in the applications that will help create surfaces easier to keep sterile, or as another post mentioned whole-car coatings that will make it easier to keep one's automobile clean, etc.
When there are one or two people using wireless (my wife and I) then it works like a charm. We have no problems with our mobile devices or the wireless connected PS3.
Cracks up to a few inches long can be sealed already with existing resins that windshield replacement/repair companies use, and most insurance policies (at least here in the US) cover repair for free with no deductible; only full replacements incur such.
Linux is a kernel. Darwin can run on lightweight devices just as the Linux kernel can. That doesn't make the iPhone OS OS X no matter how Apple tries to spin it. It makes it the iPhone OS running a related kernel to it's older sibling.
Ah yes, the Groupthink moderation of a dissenting opinion to 'Troll'. Thank you for proving my point, moderators :)

There is nothing 'purist' about leaving Mom's basement once in awhile to buy a book, or better yet to go do the Library.
Nah. Not interested in your proposal, nor in a flame war, so have a nice day Mr. Internet Troll :)
I am sorry if I hurt your feelings by speaking the truth about Apple though. Don't worry, everything will be OK.

Think Different. Think Better. Think Apple.
That's not called thinking; it's called drinking Koolaid.
The people downloading "kitty porn" for free are doing nothing to encourage the creation of more of it.
Bullshit. If nobody consumed it nobody would bother publishing it.
Cows are successful because of humans domesticating them. You seem to be confusing that with natural selection.

Software controls how batteries are used/discharged.

How is this different than any other method of sequestering a jury? It makes perfect sense to me, human nature being what it is.
This is an old picture. It's not about warmth, it's about using your laptop in privacy while out in public.
Sounds like someone left their sense of humor somewhere. Check Mom's basement.

Yeah that was really my main point. There's a lot more to an OS than the kernel and system code.
I was referring to the spin by the hordes of rabid Koolaid drinking self proclaimed geeks who think Apple is Heaven and Steve Jobs is God.
Apple rebranded it because it's not OS X. Unfortunately that seems to give nightmares to some of the less secure folk around here (not you).
What if the universal solvent is inert from a electromagnetic standpoint?

The spin here is getting increasingly sickening.
