1: Brownies. Pot does NOT need to be smoked. 2: Alcohol kills more people each year than any illegal drug. 3: Snuff is far more likely to cause cancer than other forms of tobacco. And the mouth/throat cancers caused by snuff can require cutting away the entire affected area, from the lower jaw down. You just don't here about it because the media knows viewers/readers really don't want to see pics of people with the bottom halves of their faces cut away.
You know, if more people like Sagan would come out of the closet as being marijuana users, the government would have a harder time trying to stereotype marijua users as potheads who smoke a joint and become worthless leeches on society. looks like more planning by M$ to release buggy shit and charge us for upgrades. it seems that M$ is forgetting that many GOOD software developers don't need to release patches and updates on to the same degree that M$ does, and most updates from other people are just bug fixes until a new version is released, not M$ "feature packs"(or whatever they decide to call them) which would just be more bug fixes hidden behind "new features" in a way to blackmail people into paying for "updates."
And as for paying to get other sorts of software, bullshit. The industry will be dumping out product in boxes for a long time, far longer than 5-10 years from now. Sure at some point this will all happen, but it's going to be a long way off.
But M$ knows all this. No matter how far off it is, M$ can't hurt themselves too much by being prepared well in advance. Not to mention being able to take credit for the whole thing when 2099 rolls around and the last software store finally goes out of business.

America has always been a country where anyone willing to find a way can do anything he or she wants to. And there are plenty of ways for the poor, or minorities to get onto the net. But for some reason there is a disparity between the motivated poor/minority/etc and whites. Imagine that. Kinda like that whole disparity in college attendance.
I don't know why folks, and I can't say I like it, but to me it just seems like this is the way America is always going to work out. The net just makes the split more obvious because it is so new and growing so fast, being the center of so much attention. But overall it is the same old thing. There will be those with great jobs living wonderful lives enhanced by the net, and those who get paid to say "you want fries with that?" And if the split happens to be along a "racial line" (who defines race anyway? think about it. Katz is right, this movie exposes more of the bullshit out there than anything else I have ever seen. Maybe congress, the president, and every church ladie's society out there should be forced to watch this movie for a month or so.

One of the worst trends I am noticing in online editorials is that they so often get a point across and just keep going, and going, and... perhaps we "nerds" would be better at getting the point across to the rest of the world if it was short and sweet.
Anyway, I must again sasy that I wholeheartedly agree with this. In recently looking for jobs I got entirely sick of seeing "proficient with MS Office 97" as a requirement for a job. I will admit I do use MS Office 2000 on my Windows box, and only because I need the compatibility it provides... Grrr.....
