Of course, if you're of the opinion that "as we know it" really isn't that important, then that's not entirely relevant.

Oh, and here's my exoplanet rant that I post every time one of these stories hits Slashdot.

I've had people say they assume I'm an American in response to posts where I've spelt words "behaviour" and "colour" and "learnt" and "spelt" and rather than infer that I might not be an American, they assume I must be a young American.

The vast majority of people on this planet are not Americans (let alone seppos). There's less than 300 million of ya. Stop assuming everyone is one of you.

Oh, and if you really must know, I'm an Australian.

Umm.. how exactly is kids being interested in politics a good thing?

Maybe I'm just old, but when I was a kid, we left grown up matters like politics to the adults. Being that children can't vote, and no-one cares about their political opinions, doesn't this survey say that they're basically worried about things they have no control over? Isn't that the definition of stress?

Faux is a French word used to describe something made to resemble something else. The original French word means false, fake, imitation or artificial. In the decorating industry faux painting is a surface design technique employing a variety of products and methods to resemble something else.

Of course, you knew that already.

For sure. I've had two types of managers:

    * ex-programmers, who don't do any actual management, they just expect the team to run itself.
    * guys who went to business school.

They don't know shit about programming but they keep note of who is working on what and when they said they would get it done, how reliable their estimates are and, as a result of all that, how much work the team can actually get done before a given deadline. They then negotiate with the rest of the company to keep us from getting every bullshit little proto-feature dumped on our plate for the next release.

Putting yourself beyond criticism and beyond appeal for change is not a responsible attitude, and defending the unresponsive developer and/or his bad practice is itself the height of irresponsibility to the users of a project.

Both DR and TA had turrets that you could use to build kill zones. No matter how many troops rush into the kill zone they won't make it out. Setting up kill zones to trap your opponent and driving them into them is strategy and it balances the tank rush "strategy". Fanbois of Starcraft are unaware of all this as all they've ever done is play the same game over and over in the same way: the tank rush.

I wasn't advocating TBS over RTS. I was just saying that Starcraft was one of the RTS games that failed balance the game to prevent tank rushes. Dark Reign, Total Annihilation, and plenty other games didn't fall into the same trap. The tank rush is not some basic necessity of the RTS experience, it's a bug that must be avoided.
