Knoppix is just incredible. Give him 1 million $/year. It'd be a bargain compared to $120M. Hire a few more Linux gurus with proven track records in networking. Might be interesting.
Please post if they did. There seems to be a bit of confusion here as to whether HP is/was sponsoring this trip. It would good to see what they have to say.
HP is a big company. It's likely there are factions that welcome Linux and others that are afraid of Linux. Same for Sun. IBM continues to amaze me; they have company wide support for Linux. Thanks, IBM!

I was surprised by the number of posts that mentioned Knoppix. Almost no mention of Knoppix in C/ZD NET, Gartner, PC Mag, etc. Yet, lots of people here are using it. I'm using it right now.
Back in the 60s it was a fun thing to turn people on to marihuana for the first time. I've had fun giving Knoppix CDs away. Interestingly, with both Knoppix and marihuana, the first word was often: Wow!

A bit of a puzzle here tho. Cromagnon Man replaced the Neanderthals and became our, supposed, ancestor. But, the Cromagnons had even larger brains than the Neanderthals. And Modern Man has a smaller brain than the Neanderthals.

IBM had a "near death experience" in 1993; brought on by their arrogance and attempts to totally control the PC industry. IBM was despised by many other companies and the response to MCA was everybody else moved to EIDE.
Microsoft is widely despised by the current PC industry. The old Hollywood comment applies: "Be nice to people you meet on the way up--you'll meet them again on the way down." There are a lot of former Novell, Stac, Spyglass, Netscape, Borland, . . . ..people out there who would joyfully put the torch to Microsoft, if they could.
Many Microsoft users, big and small, have gotten very angry at Microsoft for virus attacks, BSA attacks, Non Support, EULAs ("I signed what?"). . . . . The most angry users will began the migration.
IBM thought they could dictate the new *standard*. Their arrogance cost them dearly. Palladium,.NET, License 6, and other MS BS look more and more like an MCA kind of thing.
I think that within 2 years there will be a mass exodus from Microsoft by developers, OEMs, large and small business sites, and finally, even home computer users.
May you live in interesting times, Mr. Gates.

I remember a few versions ago deno of MandreakeForum said: If you're in a hurry to get a copy go to CheapBytes. The people at MandrakeSoft have embraced the Gift Economy. If you like what they have given you--it's time to give back.
And neither is telling people to go to CheapBytes for the newly released versions if they can't wait a few weeks for the boxed version. Really dumb business model; they'll never get rich that way.
But they will thrive. It's obvious to me that Mandrake was created for the joy of creation and not to get rich. That joy is passed on to an increasing number of Mandrake users.
Mandrake lover since 7.0. Mandrake Club member since 12/01.
I fell in love with Mandrake at 7.0. It seemed like they were just the distro I wanted. They have remained that way; I gave them $60 because I love them. My take on 9.0 after 2 weeks of using the download edition: Fast set up (Insert CD.....get WEB) The first Mandrake since 7.1 that detected and setup everything.(tho I still miss the Photon theme.) It's noticeably faster than 8.2 It has some fun games. The control center is a great config tool. I've heard other distro's don't have supermount. Tough for y'all. No problems so far; and if I find any I forgive MandrakeSoft in advance.;-)

You're funny...and right.
I run Knoppix but drop into Win98 to use Nero.
Auto-Run was a real pain till I turned it off.

AC flamebait gets moderated +3 Informative. *sigh*
This is informative:
1. PII = P6
2. Your 3.2 Knoppix will continue to boot.
Wow! Thanks, AC.
9/6/03 and I just noticed your comment.
This far back nobody reads or mods but maybe you'll see this.

I loved Galeon, it was my browser before I switched to Knoppix as my primary distro.
Small loss though; Knoppix is just incredible.
Using it brings back memories of using Google(beta).
Download a copy from a mirror at knoppix.net
or buy a copy from cheapbytes.com.
You, too, will be amazed.
Ray Noorda, top dog at the Canopy Group, former head of Novell and Bill Gates hate each other.
Yet, Microsoft gives $10 million to SCO to fund this insane legal action.
Sure, Linux gets a black eye from all this but I think there's a hidden MS agenda.
When this is over, I think a number of SCO people will be going to prison under RICO. Ray Noorda will be one of those. Don't fuck with Bill.

That was an incredible 2-part series on the History Channel. And, yes--it would be wonderful if we had him today. Oh,well.
