Thanks, erat! Well said, not just the usual Malda bashing. It's amazing how the KDE team keeps pumping out great stuff while ignoring most of the BS from this side of the Atlantic.

YMMV I was glad to get rid of Netscape. Konqueror, for me and my system, seems to have a few rough spots but it's fast and doesn't crash. And it will only improve. Thanks, Konqueror team!
But it sure got my wheels spinning. I got to thinking about 2 sci-fi novels I read in the 60's.

"The Consumer Society"?? by Kornbluth?? -- A man beomes a hero to society when he discovers that the more you consume (destroy) the more powerful you become.
I'm off to my used bookstore to see if I can find them.

IBM's moves to Linux started with engineers convincing IBM VPs John Patrick and John Thompson that Linux was great technology (and maybe give Bill two fingers up?). Luckily for us Marketing didn't have anything to do with it.
Speaking of IBM Marketing:
A TWO STEP PROGRAM TO END THE DRUG PROBLEM.
1. Make drugs legal.
2. Put IBM in charge of marketing.
I've seen a/..sig about famous people doing that. I respect Mr. Joy's ability to code but his views on sociology ("People will be irrelevant") and the social dynamics of groups strike me as warped.
I'll admit to stumbling over those little check boxes and getting misled by those ambiguities my first Mandrake install. I didn't mind tho, I was too blown away by the beauty of Mandrake, a work of art. And of course by the second install I didn't even notice those little smudges.
IBM's Linux efforts are amazing. The negative IBM comments about this minor happening seem to be the worst things said about IBM on/. for over a year. They seem to make all the right moves--even to spreading distro support. This week IBM announced a Thinkpad with OpenLinux and AS400 with SuSE(RSN). Over a year ago John Patrick of IBM told a group free software developers:
"We realize we are the 800 lb. gorilla here, so our manners must be impecable."
And they have been! Amazing, just amazing.
