Way back in 2003 I wrote some codes to do something similar. I called it Intelli-Aggie and the code is released under GPL. It remains a developmental prototype as I got side-tracked.
IA works, as noted in the readme, by computing a relevance factor, which in turn is based on four other 'relv' - category relevance, feed relevance, keyword relevance and item relevance. I used it as my reader for quiet some time before moving over to 'better' readers.
>>Caltech's Vegas looks great on pictures, however, there were papers pointing out that it's not exactly fair, especially with multiple bottlenecks of real-world topology.
Good God.. dont tell me more that 1 year of my MSc work had gone down the drain:) On a more serious note, I agree with what you have mentioned about Vegas. The pro-active and less agressive nature of TCP Vegas is one of the main reason why Vegas is not welcome in the real world. Even though there have been many soltions to the problem (including my own Vegas-A), there is always something left to be desired. I have not read the paper Stablized Vegas, but I have read lmlost all other important Vegas papers. From these, a list of problems with TCP Vegas would look like:
Unfair bandwidth sharing with NewReno
Inability to distinguish between re-routing and delay caused by congestion
Unfairness against higher bandwidth flows
Unfairness against older flows
I wonder how FAST takes care of these issues...
However there are also at the same time a lot of + points with respect to Vegas like:
Bob, what the heck is the point of that letter?? Was it to justify the release of 7.0 or just to divert the attention from the real issue of a buggy release by using the ever_successful "Microsoft" name ??
I really dont get it when people just tend to use MS anywhere and everywhere. When I read the main page of/. I was expecting a good rebutal, trying to support the decision to release 7.0 and maybe a list of what all is good about 7.0.
But now, when I have finished reading the letter, I feel cheated. And for all those who are keen to know, I am using 6.2 and not 7.0.Why ?? Well, I tried to install 7.0 . Everything was ok until the dhcp part. 7.0 ships with a dhcp client with a version 1.3 or so , when the latest is 3.x !! How more outdated can you be.
That was enough to put me off..
Thanks but no thanks for 7.0. I am waiting for 7.1 (hopefully I will be able to use it).
The real issue is not who own the copyright of a piece of HTML code, the issue is, is there a copyright on HTML code at all.
HTML tags are in many way codes and codes are copyrightable. However HTML codes are not exactly program codes.
I am very interested in this issue because I have done something similar, but not in any commercial manner. In my personal homepage, I have used the HTML template used by X11.Org. Now can they sue me?? I have in my website given them credit for the actual design, but does that save me from getting sued if they decide to do so(heaven forbid!!)??
A work of art is more a reflection of the reader/audience rather than that of the artist. Maybe it is because of this that I have a veiw that is a bit different from that of Hemos.
Lemme make it a bit more clearer about what I am going to say further by noting: 1. A good author and a good product of literature are different and their sets may seldom intersect. 2. Everyone has the potential for ONE great book, the book about his own life. A good author is one who can go beyond that one book.
Now on to my classification on what a good book is. A book with the only credential that it does not contain the word "e" maybe a piece of classic to some but to me it is just a class one exercise.
A book with the only credential that its content looks something like :
"I saw a man walking...walk, the activity to move your leg, leg, leg- the part of the body used to walk, through the heavy traffic, heavy as heavy as the oil spills that cover some of the oceans of this world, a world we pride to call our own, by the ego that is all prevelant......."
is pure bullshit to me. Oh ya to get a mention on/. I would have to add words like cyberspace, email and visionary into that above piece. (I drew inspirtion from "The Fountain Head" to write that above piece.)
But I have to agree with Hemos about one thing. The book brings to life the decay and uncertainity facing youth of today. But/. seems to have succeded to do that better still by even giving this book a mention on it pages..

I heard about this site NoMonthlyFees some time ago and didn't believe what they were offering! One time payment of $200/- u get 200 MB space for lifetime ! No monthly fees at all. My site is hosted there for some time now and they have not given me much to tell against. Good service, good uotime, good support. Some days ago they changed their offer a bit. Check website for more details.
What I would like to hear from fellow./ers is , How does the company pull it off ?? In the beginning I wasn't sure whether it was just another fraud, but many months into the hosting, they still stand tall as ever and I havent paid a single cent more than the initial $200/-.
Reality is a very interesting and confusing entity. For instance if I ask you "Are you sure what you see is actually what exists", what would you answer be ? "Yes" - Well how can you be sure, when you donno what is reality.
The Matrix brings out that confusing aspect of reality, among other things. Oh ya.. as the article mentioned, the secod half was mundane comapred to the amount of brain work was needed to 'understand' the first half. A small indicator would be the number of times I had to watch the first half and not the second half to make some sense out of the movie!
When the title of the story mentioned that it was on Salon, I felt that I was in for a good read. But naaah.. this time Salon disappointed me. Some rubbbish on geeks and lot of 'codes' to cover up for the lack of material left me unsatisfied just like the girls leave me:0
Maybe the writter felt that any article with few words like 'geeks', 'Silicon Valley' and 'Sex' would command viewership and warrant a Slashdot place. Yup, in a way it has but has laft, I am sure, many many unstaisfied geeks !
BTW if u are looking for 'codes' plse go to some usenet of even Free Software site for better 'codes' !
First NRI!= National Reserach Insititute. NRI= Non-Resident Indian !:0
Second.. "India's First Commercial Supercomputer Runs Linux" is a misleading headline ! "Peacock" and "Maya" is NOT the first commercial supercomputer built by India. India had built 'Param' when India was denied access to Cray computers. It is an establised fact among the supercomputing people that 'Param' is giving Cray a real run for the money. Refer http://www.cdac.org.in/ for more details on 'Param'
Yup, peacock and Maya is definetely the first linux-based supercomputer that Indian has built.
/. features quite frequent interviews with famous nerds/geeks. But I really do see that the number of scientists who have been interviewd on/. is minimal. During the latest interview with/. runners, a question was raised why/. doesn't concentrate evenly on Linux/Open source and other scientific articles. Well this is one of the best examples of that point in action ? So what say u Mr.Taco ??
Well../. already has the daily email update option. What can be built on this: (1) In the monthly maybe the most commented topics can be highlighted and even some of the most rated posting ! (2) As said in the parent posting maybe some of the stories that just missed/. posting can also be included if they are revelant at the end of the month.
I guess this note will never meet the sight of most of the/.ers, but I had to bring this up because I found it an inherent flaw in Moderation in/.
Do you remember the discussion about CEO of Novell and his apparent stolen credit card numbers ?? Well I had posted this story as reply number 37. Furthermore an AC had actually replied with the same link as used in this story. No moderator seems to have found it fit to give any extra points. But now, a whole new discussion with 90 replies seem to have started.
Please dont waste time. Read this artic le on the evils of cookies instead. Atleast these people know a bit about what they are talking about.
If I am not mistaken, it talks about the security loophole that was created when GIF images were allowed to embed cookies in computers. This has been discussed on/.
I am paranoid. I dont trust any one. Cookies are bad. Javascripts are yuckkkk.. But I TRUST Novell. They are so carefull people. see they learn from their.. opps their CEO's experience.
I hope they implement "digitalme" soon. My cash is running out. I need a database of credit card numbers.
As said in the article(New Scientist),the reverse time region needs an opposite of the Big Bang called the Big Crunch. But will a Big Crunch occur ?? Out of the 3 models by of non-static Universe, Big Crunch is the end-effect of just one of the models, the other being Ever Expanding and just exanding enough to avoid a Big Crunch.
So questions arises, will there be a Big Crunch ??
Many/.ers were asking for details on Hubble. Well I did some diggig up and came up with this Hubble history:
--Co-operative program of NASA and ESA --Design lifetime = 15 years, with a 3 yr cycle of on-orbit service --Launched by Discovery(STS-31),1990 --2 service missions so far,1993, and 1997 --1993 service replaced two gyroscope Electronics Control Units (ECUs)and fuse plugs for the gyroscopes
But no details on the latest failure even at stsci.edu.. can any one give more details ?
Password and remembering them have been very easy for me..
Well the process that I have used is as follows :
If I have a standing GF when I change the password, I would keep my password as "iluvxyz", and if I have just broken up with a GF i would have my password as "fuckuxyz"..:)
Isn't that cool. Maybe it will be cooler if I also add that I have never had a GF !
Well surely they can help a pull down list that has say 5 standard reasons and choose from it when they poke around the story. Dont think it it too big to ask for.
