  1. You can pretty much gauge the size of a florgzid by the size of its dropping, and this is just a medium sized one. Still I'm surprised to see one this far out --probably really old. Rich in platinum if you can stomach mining it.

  2. call me back when you have a web implant on Wearables Still Slow To Catch On in the United States (axios.com) · · Score: 1

Given several more decades we'll have not hardware, not wetware, but probably some kind of mushware that gives us access to whatever the web has turned into by then. The implant subject will certainly be able to turn it off. Ha. Yes, that's probably the only hardware part --a switch on your temple.

  4. Strong, powerful, well trained, but so timid it took them a whole hour after finding Paddock to breach his room. Come on MS, people are dying out there. What's wrong? Can't find your special SWAT panties? Make the OS with a VR-only 3d UI, pupil tracking, keyboardless, voice and gesture controlled. Grow some balls.

  5. be sure to use the correct units! on FCC Chairman Keeps Up Assault on Social Media (axios.com) · · Score: 1

Obviously he's looking for hard numbers, and under the SI system, the Pajool (Pj) is the unit of societal benefit. Given that PeeWee Herman is equivalent to 3.1416 Pj, all other values may be derived. For example: that computer chick on "Criminal Minds" = -23 Pj, Enya (but only for her "Boadicea" hymn) = +51 Pj, Enya (all of her other soft, fluffy trash) = -6 Pj, Steely Dan (almost anything prior to 1981) = +32 Pj, Fortuna's pepperoni = +106 Pj, the tendency to consider almost any kind of computer logic to be AI = -1287 Pj, Coffee Rio caramels (plain coffee only) = +201 Pj, employers that force you to have a LinkedIn account = -523 Pj. You're welcome.

  7. strong AI is modern Alchemy on Stephen Hawking: 'I Fear AI May Replace Humans Altogether' (wired.co.uk) · · Score: 1

IMO the pursuit of strong AI is a type of modern Alchemy, and the fact that your average Joe apparently doesn't discriminate between strong AI, expert systems, machine learning and even traditional sequential logic, is causing a lot of paranoia. A far more likely but less sensational future scenario is that we will use weak AI to augment to our brains, but your good old self will still be in the drivers seat. In the remote chance that strong AI is realized, I don't see it just popping into being. It is more likely it will be preceded by a great many autistic iterations before a functioning sentience and intelligence can be achieved. And even then, will it even be, well, smart? Intelligence goes hand-in-hand with the ability to form misconceptions. And will it have the slightest bit of creativity or just be a walking talking encyclopedia? Again, Alchemy I say.

I guess a better question is, when space is curved, are the individual atoms in that space curved as well?

  10. gravity as illusion on Flat Earther Plans To Launch Homemade Manned Rocket (apnews.com) · · Score: 1

Well, if gravity is just the illusion presented by curved space, and that anything orbiting our planet is really traveling in "straight" line, then isn't the matter occupying that space also curved, and likewise actually "flat"?
