I think that idea of sharing spare cpu cycles is awesome, it will revolutionize the way we play games. i mean just do the math and you'll see in pure numbers how much it will boost performance.
say your new ps3 is 1 terahertz (THz) (1000x faster, right?) you hook up to a network of 999 other ps3's thats a combined cpu power of 1000 THz at your disposal for your games, and all you have to do is share that with the other 999 users..
thats a whopping 1THz for your games, i mean... just imagine it....
because EVERYBODY knows that a hacker can only hack you if his cpu is faster than yours, so you're safe if yours is faster... and of course virii tend to get lost in all that ram, so if you have alot of HD space and ram, the virus will never be able to find it's way to your computer/cpu..
cmon people, this is basic computer knowledge here, my brother's friend knows this guy who's cousin has an msce in this and makes 200k/year told me this, so its true. dont you ever read the yellow books?
2 months ago i thought 80gigs would be all i needed, right now i'm scoping out an extra 120g to add to my system... you can never have too much storage, or speed...
untill games are 100% realistic in speed, motion and graphics, there will never be a "fast enough" videocard. don't predict things that you cant be sure of, or some day someone will laugh at you cause you thought 640K was more than anyone would ever need...
rant all you want, but the reason is because ie does everything netscape and others do, and more.. ok yes, it sucks that they're adding their own extensions to html and not following the standard, but the end result is that desiging for ie gives the developer more options, and if a few people insist on cripling their web experience (in the developers eyes) well then thats their own problem, but we will not limit ourselves in what we can do, to make a few people happy...
just liek writing a game to be compatible with the 3% of the people out there who still have p1 133's with 2mb videocards... if you want to use that, fine, but be aware that we are always pushing the envelope to do more and more things and you are going to be left in the dust./end rant
is it really the best ever made, if not the best ever made?
i don tknow, i resent people who say that, those who have hours to spend on a few pages, but in a working environment where time versus productivity is essential, how can you justify using a text editor when your productivity would be a fraction of whats possible with a wysiwyg...
just like working for a software company, SURE the software would be faster and smaller and better if all coded in asm, but how many large scale programmers code in that only?
yes, but much like a serial code for your warezed games, etc, i'm sure someone could crack it, and come up with a fake signature generator for whatever software you want to boot onto the xbox, right?
hmm... i dunno.. everyone touts "all natural" as being better.... arsenic is naturaly occuring in nature.. so is cow shit.. personally i'd rather eat some fake sugar
mouse, keyboard, monitor, video card, sound card, speakers....
check those on pricewatch and tell me how much more its gonna be now (you can slash the monitor if you really want to connect via a tv. i'm sure its gonna be a little more than $40.. not to mention you gotta have one of those funky game controlers
actually no, as it is widely known, MS loses money on each sale, in which they hope to make up for with software sales... so this project adds injury to insult towards ms...
hehe i had a zx81 when i was 12 or 13 too, but by that time it was akin to a 486 today.. i dissasembled the rom, then bashed it good and looked at all the computer stuff inside....
what about extracting a working "signature" from ms from a legit game and comming up with a working facsimilie (sp) to fool the xbox into letting it run?

well you'll need the extra cpu power from other users cause your own cycles will be eaten up by other players on the network, right?

no, but can you imagine the blank media tax on your brand new 1TB mp3 player?
are you on crack??

i was poking fun at their typo, i think they meant megs, not K
you forgot about ram...
"Complete build time is 8 hours on 4 way PIII Xeon 550 with 50Gb disk and 512k RAM"
i'm surprised it compiled AT ALL with only half a meg of ram...
deul gpu's? dude, they don't fight
YAY.. glad it was a canadian company to do it first
now can they get their ver 3.04b34 rev 9967 drivers out before everyone else does it too and takes over the market?

you wouldn't have to ask if you say him play quake :P
reading the few replies i've gotten, only one saying comes to mind: "wise is he who knows what can and can't be done before he even tries"
sure they *could* have done that, but what i'm looking is for someone to say "hey, lets try that and see what happens"
actually my fiance is 90% deaf, but she can still enjoy music, albeit very loud music, but thats the way i listen to it as well...
and she can actually tell by the vibrations when i play guitar what style i'm playing, and if on a certain day if i suck or am playing well...

is if the moon crashed into the earth and everyone died and no one was left behind to tell about it... would it still make a sound?

my memory is a bit rusty on this, but rumor was that iraq wanted to use the ps2 as cheap missile guidance systems... i guess that plan never flew

"if it wasn't anonymous, we'd know who it was"
hmm, are you 100% positive about that?
what if i have an AMD XP1600 running mandrake?
its not a wintel, nor a mac.. how does that fit in?
