If only men from the future could send a T1000 back in time, and kill all the guys who are just gonna post "sky-net" related posts, before they were born...
At first I understood you meant a thing like "Let's answer to their mail, it will make prices fall", but it sounded really too weird for me.
But now I read the article twice, it seems to me you wrote something like "To fight the spammers, let's buy their products" ? Sounds still a bit weird for me.
Really, I think that the best way to fight spammers is to:
1- Never answer
2- Whenever possible, block their emails to the root, meaning at SMTP level
3- Let the law break their business
On MSN, the first page displays sponsored results...you can see the real number of results on page 2.

Many people seem to be amazed when a micropayment firm successes in the USA. I'm in France, and here micropayment is a reality, with several firms offering this service to webmasters so they can sell their content.
Most of theese French/European firms can process (overpriced) phonecalls and SMS/SMS+ payments, and some of them make a lot of money (see allopass.com for example). And of course, 99% of their money comes from p0rn-sites.
"What kind of message does that send to the developers who work for Gates?"
Well, I think that developers who work for Gates won't get a big advice from that kind of message. Hope you won't take it as a troll, but in fact, I think that only anti-microsoft people will matter with that type of articles, based on out-of-their-context sentences.
Money is much more appreciated than presents, even if they're expensive presents.
What you can do is give them money (say $1200), and offer them champagne, or even geek stuff @ thinkgeek. $300 makes nice presents, and $1200 money is always appreciated !
Ok, but is that really the point of this news ?br>
Longhorn MSDN sub-section is a reliable source of informations for people that are going to develop for this platform, just as Gnome central is for people that develop for Gnome.
"vague statements like "advised 3 Fortune 500 companies on database performance issues""
Ok, now we all know that you're a really smart guy.
"Is it particular to the database field, or is it common for other specialties as well?"
No, this only happens in the database field. Just like every smart guy, you're probably aware that people working for national security networks, anti-terrorism information systems or other stuff like this, don't have Non Disclosure Agreements.
People which are satisfied with Microsft software are typically people that don't answer that kind of questions. Or even more, they don't visit that kind of site.
French ISP Wanadoo yet provides a micropaiment system called W-HA, which allows every merchant to sell content and services to the customers of this ISP. Amounts go from 1 to 10 euros, and are added to the customers' bill.
A good idea I think...as customers don't event think they pay:)
- It usually generates small.swf files (as long as your scenes are clean)
- It's scriptable so that you can generate dynamic charts without a big effort.
- Everybody's got a flash plugin, as it exists for nearly every OS.
And as the Flash community is really huge on the web, you will easyly find many resources and tutorials about building that kind of animations.

What would be your choice for middle school classrooms with minimal sys admin?

You should have a look at WASTE. It's a Winamp's founder Justin Frankel open source project.
Basically, it's p2p through ssh...
If this was mainstream behavior CD sales would have dropped to zero
Please remember that piracy is NOT a mainstream. Most people don't even know how they can download music or movies on the internet.
Run your own blog, where you describe your work and you answer visitors' questions. You can even get slashdotted if it's interesting enough :)
How is it possible that you didn't notice Lara's breast ? :)
