  1. Dumbed-down on NYT Magazine: Are Comics The New Mainstream Novels? · · Score: 5, Insightful

Perfectly suited to our dumbed-down culture and collective attention deficit...

I think that's a bit harsh for novels and graphic novels. Some of the comics cited above are difficult, intelligent stories with involved character development and a good story to tell.
Calling that dumbed-down undersells the artists and the readership.

I'm pretty sure someone was saying that about Dickens in his day.

  2. Re:examples? on Realistic Human Graphics Look Creepy · · Score: 5, Interesting

I find this to be a good example of being "nearly-there".
Didn't Freud talk about this in his examination of the unheimlich? We're freaked out by stuff thats almost-but-not-quite human.

  4. Two Towers on ILM Now Capable of Realtime CGI · · Score: 5, Insightful

In the Fellowship of the Ring DVD, Peter jackson can clearly be seen watching golum on a monitor (low poligon, but golum none the less) performing the mo-cap Andy Serkis is performing IN REAL TIME; as it is happening (not after).

So does this make this old news??

I dunno, I feel the ILM have been behind the bleeding edge for sometime now...

  5. Military spending on Why Japan Gets the Cool Stuff · · Score: 2, Interesting

Sorry to be naive, but isn`t the reason that the Japanese electronics industry (and infrastructure) is so advanced is becuase of the terms of the VJ-day treaty, which prohibits Japan from ANY military R spending. SO that all the guys who would have made weapons of mass destruction work for Sony, et al? The same level of R that has been put into Military uses in the US and UK has been piled into gadgetry in Japan. Similarly, their infrastructure is so advanced becuase the government has speant nothing on defence in over 50 years.

    Just my $0.02
