Thanks for the flame, I hope your just having a bad few days and not this rude all the time. You spend too much time trying to get me off on tangents unrelated to my original statement by distorting the meaning in an attempt to prove me wrong.
Predicting the future success of the ISS and comparing it to the predicted future of other unknown projects is a sketchy way to argue against the ISS. That only comes with hindsight, something we don?t have.
"Although nasa may not be the best place to put all that money in its current state, that does not mean we should just cut the funding for space projects."
I was originally talking about the idea that money should not be spent on space projects and how it would be a bad thing. Many people come to this conclusion and I see it as a problem. So we were not just talking about the ISS.
I would find it possible that the ISS (also being a platform for research) that is still in progress has yet to produce a 'spin-off' from the research. Do I think that nothing positive has been learned from the work so far or that nothing will ever come out of it in the future to be worth it? Hardly.
btw, how can one posted url (defending my true position actualy) mean that the links I post _often_ have no breaing or contradict what I say? Lets not flame here, thats no way to learn.
I'm unsure of how much government funded groundbreaking will be required before the venture capitalists pick up the ball and make it the next financial boom. Hopefully it will be enough to make that happen before things slow down too much. Its just too bad that nasa has so far discouraged commercial funding like the Russians have embraced. Hopefully that act has not slowed the process to the future we both see.
Well, "folks" like me understand that just because its not labeled "NASA" that it can come from technology developed in space programs. I will not cut and paste tons of data that can be easily found elsewhere to people who look, but you can take a look at this url to educate yourself:
http://www.seds.org/technology/index.shtml
I'm sure you can find many more examples.
So in other words, if you "pay attention to" more than just ISS (its sexy? phallic maybe....) you will see my point.
btw, you sure got a mod point quick after posting.
I am highly interested in progress in space. I want to see many more things happen before I die. I am all for any way to increase the amount of funding that advances space sciences.
Although nasa may not be the best place to put all that money in its current state, that does not mean we should just cut the funding for space projects.
To say that we are at war or that there are more important ways to spend money is short sighted and a narrow view of the benefits of this science.
I don't think being closed source would make it any more protected from cheats. Its all a matter of what you trust the client with, or rather what you don't trust it with. Then its all up to the server to be secure.
Ever see a student ask a teacher how to do something on their HP?
I have yet to see a teacher have a clue how to use it, most are limited to TI-83s. Most math classes I've been in would have as much as one person with an HP, and the only way they could get any help is if they were lucky enough to find someone else with one that read the manual.
It seems like the professors had the most control over what students bought, first day of class it's normal for them to suggest that their students have the same calculator as them. I wouldn't be suppressed if TI figured this out and made sure the teachers were holding their product.
And I can say the world/universe was created the day I was conceived or born.
More importantly, if you want to argue that the world was created with a perfect history, then it is exactly the same thing as if the world developed over time. If the point of what you said is to defend creationism, then don?t limit yourself to just thinking on such a limited scale of fruits and babies. Consider the fact that if you could know the state of every atom, with its rotation, and basically every piece of energy/non-energy then you can predict the future. Given that, if we assume our big bang theory is correct, if some omnipotent force was able create things as it wanted without limitations, then it could have set the ball in motion for the universe and ultimately us (that includes what we are thinking right now), to be exactly like it wanted from the point of initial expansion. In an isolated system, it would be impossible for the future to deviate, what so ever. This includes setting the constants of the universe so that it allows us the ability to investigate the world around us without limits. And since this omnipotent force was able to foresee the future from the point of initial expansion of the universe, then it falls in quite nicely with the thought that this force still interacts with us today, while it may be just an outcome of the initial conditions.
IMHO, this is the best way for a religion to still claim that their god created the world and universe. While we may figure out that the earth is not the center of the universe like originally defended, I seriously doubt science will be able to disprove an event that occurred before the universe was created. But to explain the fact that our thoughts are just a product of the initial conditions of the universe, would annoy people to say the least, if they really understood it of course.
You seem to hold the idea that something could create the earth (and I assume the universe) in detail, in an instant, yet has a linier existence. Why create something to look 25,000 years old when you can just let unfold in front of you exactly as you want it in the same instant.
I liked opera with tabs and mouse gestures very much untill I tried the latest mozilla with multizilla for tabs and a 3rd party program called sensiva for mouse gestures. I got tired of the lack of development and closed source nature of opera. I also missed the ability for it to store my logins and passwords for when I want to be lazy. And I don't think opera had autocompleation for the urls.
I have found it impossible to keep up on what individual representatives are voting for and against. Are there any online sources that would allow me to see were politicians stand on issues based on their past votes on bills? I have found opensecrets.org that deals with where their money comes from, but that?s only partially helpful.
I would not want to use one and none of the other sources of information. While radio may be the least source I use, If I happen to be in my car, I need it to be there.
The key is to filter out what you can tell is misinformation and rumor while considering some sources to carry more weight than others. However this is a skill that I don't believe everyone has. If someone doesn?t understand how or where to search for information on the net, then they will stick to tv since its a lot easier, but they will be receiving spoon feed information and have little chance to judge events and opinions on their own. For someone with the ability to go over a lot of data on the net at the same time as watching the latest video on the TV, can get a much better understanding of the situation. I would assume that most people here did just that.
In my opinion, TV news like fox or CNN suffers from people who speculate and manufacture rumors for sake of conversation. And there is no way to skip over that if its happening on every news station. (like you can go on to someplace else on the net) And I also believe that TV news is very subject to direct and indirect censorship and propaganda that can only be circumvented by diverse sources of information on the net.
When a phone call woke me up on the 11th, TV news was the first thing I turned on in order to understand what was meant by my wakeup call of "we are being attacked by terrorists". First thing I saw was the building falling down, and to make a long story short, I soon after got on the net.

Why not make it required that any mass mailing, be it for promotion or getting your voice heard, have something like "[Unsolicited]: " as its subject? or even a tag in the header? If it is felt that all email that we now regarded as spam does not fall under the category of unsolicited, just have a list of options. This should give people the power to decide what they want to use their internet connection for. (Since any of those emails can be deleted without downloading) I see this as enforceable as any other option and it does not deny a person from what cases I can think of that would be considered as freedom of speech.
I don't think those sony walking computers would be very suited for the rescue there. I see it as a big acomplishment for them to be able to go up stairs, let alone crawl over stuff. Give those guys enough shielding and send them into a radio active area, sure.
The idea is to communicate without doing anything different than you normal do that may tip someone off to your actions. Don't just send someone an image with encrypted information to pass information, do it only if you normaly send them an image on a regular basis.

Evidence? we are talking theory on religion. what evidence can I quote for that? the bible? I don't think so.

War or missions in space? pick one
Too bad it won't be the one we want.

I feel sick,
and trying to understand the changes by the act is not helping.
Just to prove my point, if this was real life, I would have had the second 'l' in cancelled. Programmer's bug.
Its not canceled, we are living in it.
You scare me more than any terrorist.
