Seriously. This sort of bean counter bullshit is going to continue until people no longer hesitate to drag it into the light.
Yes, sure, it's up to every company to maximize its own profits. And sure, it's possible that wages for certain classes of skilled workers is out of whack.
But abusing the work visa system to pay pennies on the dollar for labor is just flat-out wrong.
Technically a blockchain can be "edited" too. Adding transactions to a blockchain is an edit function.
No, you CANNOT go back in and twiddle previous transactions (it'd break the blockchain). That still doesn't stop a blockchain from essentially being a logfile though.
Okay, we have how fucking many Chrome clones out there?
And Mozilla has essentially given up, begun slobbing the Google knob, and is in the process of mutating from an independent browser with some of the widest plugin support extant into a Chromezilla?
So, we're down to Edge and Chrome now. Both with shitty, mickey-mouse plugin support.
And if he had problems with the nascent statute because he felt that it would be successful fully struck down via legal challenge due to poor construction/wording, and a desire to put something more concrete in its place?
Would that have made a difference?
Of course not. It's always about "He hates gays."
Note: I'm not saying that IS the reason. Just saying that people have raged on this guy with nothing more than a mere data point and a couple metric assloads (because imperial assloads are so passe) of supposition.
No, Adblock Plus is in the business of formulating acceptable standards for web advertising.
Right now what we've got is a mixture of Wild Wild West on crack and a whorehouse specializing in HIV positive girls where the nearest condom is several continents away.
Don't get me wrong. I support content providers' right to make money off of their content by utilizing a portion of my screen real estate and attention.
That, however, doesn't give them the right to completely take over the entirety of my screen real estate and pop un-avoidable video ads with full, loud audio.
Additionally, ad networks are an unmitigated clusterfuck of an attack vector on my machine. My generosity doesn't extend to having to burn multiple hours/days restoring a system because some rogue ad/network slid malware by my AV/AM systems and crashed my system. My time and effort is worth money too.
"Disable your ad blocker SO WE CAN SHOVEL MALWARE ON YOU!"
FUCK
THAT
NOISE!
The reason internet advertising is in such dire straights is the advertisers PUSHED it to this juncture. They kept coming up with ever more obnoxious, intrusive, downright DANGEROUS methods of serving us shit we really don't want to see. As such, people who want to actually be able to use their computers in a safe, effective manner, look towards blockers. So these ad assholes keep looking for ways AROUND ad blockers, coming up with things that are even more crazy-obnoxious, intrusive and dangerous. Hell, if they could, they'd force click-throughs too.
And what remediation do people get when malvertising kills their machine?
It's a bunch of buck-passing.
Site Owner: Oh it was the ad network! Fuck you! Have a nice day! Ad Network Owner: Oh it was a rogue advertiser! Fuck you! Have a nice day! Advertiser; Oh! It was a third party company we hired to get our name out there! Fuck you! Have a nice day! Third Party Ad Company: *CHIRP* *CHIRP* (Basically, they're operating under another in a series of new names this week. Again. Fuck you! Have a nice day!)
As such, there is ZERO accountability in this "industry". It's ALL snake oil.
Basically, the internet advertising people don't want to settle on an acceptable ad standard. Know why? Because the profit margins are even shittier than those for their current obnoxious, dangerous crap!
This bit of shenanigans with ABP is just another nail the internet ad companies are driving into their own coffins.
Internet advertising is a nasty, STD'ed up whore. Ad blockers are condoms.
Sorry but this "compromised by design" shit has to go.
People need to use a strong, unbreakable encryption. Then, when the government comes sniffing around, they should be told to go sodomize a hippopotamus.
Of course, what that means is that the lag time between brain and appearance of rampant idiocy is about as low as we could get without hive-mind telepathy.
On top of that, years of "reality TV" and general "popular person worship" have inured us to the existential agony of watching people the average IQ of a dead slug acting like idiots and assholes on TV and in the media.
This is, more or less, why all our presidential candidates are slack-jawed mouth-breathers. Because nobody has to try harder than that.
Honestly, most of these benchmarks have LONG outlived the point where they provide any sort of useful information for anything.
They're basically masturbatory devices whereby people who have nothing better to do flaunt their e-peen.
They try to tell you that they correlate back to specific tasks in the system. Unfortunately this has been so utterly abstracted by now that the synthetic counterpart is utterly meaningless.
The only thing that matters is "Does the system do what you need it to do at a reasonable speed?"
And the problem with codifying any sort of benchmarks at all is that, eventually, they get gamed. So, rather than a more organic development with general performance gains, we get a stunted development process where components that matter to benchmarks get more tweaking, and performance in other areas suffers.
The main point is, most new computers are ridiculously overpowered for 99% of all desktop productivity tasks. And the remaining 1% of video editing, graphical editing and gaming tasks are simply hyper-specializations.
Years ago, a company called NCSoft shuttered a game called City of Heroes because they didn't find it profitable enough. Never mind that it had steady numbers after 8 years of operation and was pulling in over ten million dollars a year, even with an F2P setup that'd been recently implemented.
A group that was trying to buy the property off NCSoft in lieu of shuttering it looked at those numbers and went "We can live with that!"
Another company, Catalyst Game Labs, is in business today, keeping several game lines (BattleTech and Shadowrun) in print and growing. Yes, their fanbase is smaller than it was back in 1990, when they were created/owned/run by The FASA Corporation. This, combined with better production values (due to the market demands) as well as greater general competition for people's entertainment dollars means that the profit margins aren't what they were years ago either. Yet Catalyst is still chugging away and still considers itself a successful company.
It's all about how you define success.
Netflix is evidently happy with what their numbers are telling them. And they've got the cash available to bankroll these ambitious projects. Also, their bean counters and shareholders aren't bitching either publicly or loudly. Does one REALLY need to argue any further?
And, who's to say that even if the networks GOT the data they wanted, that it'd be in any way meaningful to them in their business model?
Really? Because the majority of people who are accused of being horrible evil SJW scum
Did you, or did you not see his qualification that sometimes the "perception" is actuality and sometimes it's imaginary.
He didn't use a qualifier like "there people always..."
As for your supposition that "the majority of people".
I'd ask you to actually support this claim. So long as it doesn't anger you to the point of starting an SJW movement to persecute people who ask for tangible proof of ass-pull statistics.
Seriously. This sort of bean counter bullshit is going to continue until people no longer hesitate to drag it into the light.

What? WHO? HUH?
Uh. I pooped my Depends. *GRIN*
While some of the uses are ingenious, it's essentially just a new take on "the logfile".
Please come back to me when manually fucking around with your hosts file is easy and effortless as adblock is for the average clueless non-power-user.
Okay, we have how fucking many Chrome clones out there?

Fucking great...

And come on. The Forbes Fuckup only happened.

If you think it'll stay there, you're naive.

If someone could get away with "BLOWJOBS FOR EVERYONE" as a campaign plank, there'd be enough idiots out there to elect the person.
Elect them? We'd erect things in their honour.
Well, I see what you did there.
Welcome to Costco...
I love you...
Better communication?
No. We have MORE IMMEDIATE communication.
Of course, what that means is that the lag time between brain and appearance of rampant idiocy is about as low as we could get without hive-mind telepathy.

It's pretty much Idiocracy: The Early Years.
This is the US.
If someone could get away with "BLOWJOBS FOR EVERYONE" as a campaign plank, there'd be enough idiots out there to elect the person.
Yep!
Sure.
However, there's pretty much zero evidence that synthetic benchmarks stress a system in the same way regular use does.

If you ask Herb about it, he'll tell you "We annihilated a lotta people!".
Then he'll smirk and think about all the allegorical nukes he dropped fondly.

Basically this sort of thing is forcing me to choose Linux as my next OS. Because Windows simply cannot and will not be a stable platform.
Here's hoping pretty much ALL hardware vendors adopt DualBIOS setups. Otherwise Microsoft is going to be killing devices left and right.
If you think I'm going to put up with an OS as terminally stupid as yours that tries to auto-update BIOS/EFI on the fly, YOU ARE ON FUCKING DRUGS!
Enjoy the huge lawsuits this evolves into.
Fucking morons...
Oh give me a fucking break.
This is just a fucking revenue scam. Nothing more.
I think we're well past "blood from a stone" and now working on "blood from nothing".
Greedy fucks...

Take the damn four billion and invest it in the homeless (veterans especially).
