  1. Quake 1. Mod parent DOWN please. on Half Life 2 To Appear At E3 · · Score: 1

God. When will people stop spreading rumors that Halflife was based on Quake 2?

Halflife = Based off of quake 1.

Hooray! Let us never mention the trainwreck that was Quake2 again.

    You're kidding, right?

Nothing better than Windows Media Player? Have you tried Sasami(video file player), the free DivX players, anything else out there? Even ATI players(requires you have an ATI video card of course) are better than WMP.

The IE argument is somewhat true, if only because people have been brainwashed into making IE only web pages, using Microsoft extensions to html. Netscape gets better, but of course Netscape these days is as much of a corporate whore program as IE, as it is backed by AOL/Time Warner.

The real problem is, there ARE better programs out there, but few, especially novice users, know where to get these programs.

However I can only see it as a benefit to having people forced to look for these programs, or MS having to include links in new installs of Windows to find programs such as these. Anything to take away from the Windows monopoly.

Who cares if they link drivers license databases together? If you get a ticket in another state, they'd just call your home state anyway. This might cut down on forged/altered licenses a bit, but I really don't see it changing much, if anything.

The day they start requiring you to SHOW your ID of whatever form in order to travel by car/bus or do certain things, then I'll raise hell. Until then, concentrate on Terrorists and Microsoft.

  11. Re:Huh? on FBI, Pentagon Talk to MS about XP Hole · · Score: 2

Not in this case. The DDoS attack method they were talking about was using the XP exploit to force MANY replies to a PnP(plug and play)device message, from MANY machines, by simply sending the correct info to specific ports on any XP/Me/98 machines. Spoof the return IP where that info is supposed to go, to the IP of your most hated web page for example, and boom, instant DDoS attack that is amazingly anonymous, and would probably be very effective.

The only "hard" part would be tagging a bunch of XP machines on cable or better to be used for the attack.

    This should scare you.

High skill level black-hat types getting system access on all machines running XP worldwide shouldn't scare you quite as much, but that is also THEORETICALLY possible through this hole.

Come on, you'd think Slashdot type geeks would be able to do the math... Xbox costs $400 to make(that's the rumor) so they lose 100 on each sale. But they lose FOUR hundred if NO ONE buys it. lol.

Yes, our government/military is not the most beneficial and peaceful structure on this planet. But few governments can have either of those words applied to them.

Despite this, the American people are NOT the ones doing the damage you overgeneralize so readily.

Regardless of what our GOVERNMENT may have done, it does not make anyone right or justified in attacking American citizens, just as our government has no right in attacking citizens of any other nation.
