And the X server might render windows as textures, then composite the screen every 1/60 for ultra smooth update.

This would do nothing to stop update flicker. The current problem is becuase the program is still drawing while the framebuffer is composited to screen. Drawing the window to a texture would do nothing to change this as a locking mechanism is needed which X has no support for.

The best improvement I think we could bring to X11 would be a special mode where each window is a live opengl surface. That way we wouldn't need to do "exposure" events and other things. Window dragging would be silky smooth. Other 3d effects could follow. Forget the frame buffer.

Hear hear! I'm sure plenty of people would bitch about it not running on their non AGP toaster or whatever, but I'd say that this would actually make a decent display system. I believe Microsoft is doing this for the next Windows, and from what I've seen it looks pretty cool.

BTW, a pet peeve of mine. People who disagree with homosexuality are not homophobes. Calling them homophobes is a type of hate speech in itself as it tries to villify a group of people. I think homosexuality is wrong, disgustingly so. I speak out against it. I am not afraid of homosexuals. A homophobe is afraid of homosexuals.

I think this sums it up rather well:
A homophobe is anyone who has an irrational fear for homosexuality whether they are aware of this fear or not. Since prejudice of any form is irrational and a product of fear of difference anyone prejudiced against homosexuals is homophobic. Some homophobes maintain they are not homophobic because they don't mind homosexuality but they wish the would do it behind closed doors/not kiss in public/have no equality/have no freedom of speech/would just go away. Again, this is an irrational treatment of homosexuality based on prejudice: at least do the honorable thing and admit you are a homophobe.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but the only way to find something on freenet is to search for it. The whole point in whistle blowing is that nobody knows about whatever you're uncovering. If they don't know about it, how can they search for it? If nobody searches for it, it will fall of freenet, never to be seen. The only way of using freenet for whistle blowing would be to upload it, and then tip someone off. This takes away the whole point of it being anonymous as you could just tell the reporter rather than telling them to look at freenet.
