Oh for god's sake. Badnarik is a perfect example of why we won't ever get a 3rd party canidate. He is the poster child for 3rd Party = freaks and just reinforces all the stereotypes about 3rd party being the lunatic fringe (man that word just doesn't LOOK like a word).
Give me a 3rd party canidate who, you know, has actual job experience and a strong record, and I'll vote for them. If a canidate is serious they will get elected as a 3rd party rep to the local school board, or sherrif's office, then city legistature, state, national. If they go from being a used car salesman, (or failed oil barron/1 term senator) to trying for the highest position in the land then there is something wrong in their head.
Gotta pay your dues - I think the last 4 years have proved quite well that a MBA does not a president make.
Putting a baffoon in office - even a well meaning one is just as evil as voting "for evil." I can say that because a actually voted for Perot.
Humans are subpar outside of a very few capacities. The eco-systems are very fragile and easily broken.
There is lots of unnecesary pain, suffering, and general badness.
If this was done by desing then the designer is an asshole or insane (malovent deity and gnostic theorys)
If there was a guiding will behind it and it STILL turned out this way then the designer is a journeyman at best, or an incompetent at worst. Either way not worth worshiping.
Personally I lean towards paranoid polytheism. On odd tuesdays I believe that every divinity ever imagined or "revealed" to man is real and exists, but they designed the world by commitee, each behaving exactly as they are described in their holy texts -like greedy, arrogant, bratty, spoiled children. It explains alot.
I actually knew a woman like that. I doubt she would realizes to this day, but she is an artist (sculpter ironicly) and as part of some class she took a color recognition test and she was able to make out far more variations that was "supposed" to be possible.

No... Just really boggled. All those institutions are about preserving freedom. I'm just really confused about when something as basic as upholding the founding principles of the country became "liberal" I think, and my 60 year old card carrying republican father agree that protecting civil liberties and freedoms and privacy is very "conservative" stuff.
Its strange, my father stopped voting republican in the elections (he keeps his card so he can vote against the wack jobs in the primaries) about the same time the the Republicans stopped being conservative and started becoming moralists instead.
What happened anyway? It used to be the republican party stood for low taxes, small government, strict interpretation of the constitution and bill of rights, and keeping out of the daily lives of people (for better or worse). Now they are for big government, new branches of the beuracracy, deficiet spending, and reducing the seperation between church and state.
The current state of politics sounds much more like bizzaro world to me.
Um.. Nope None of tose groups are liberal in the slightest. SANE yes. Firmly grounded in reality, yes. Liberal? Not particuarly.
The ACLU is as conservative an organization as you can find. All they want to do is maintain the freedoms put forth in the consititution. They don't care if you are on the right or on the left - if you a being denied your rights as a citizen they are one your side.
Reproductive choice? Since when did deciding if you want to have children or not become liberal?
Planned Parenthood? Not Liberal. %98 of their work involves women's health, STD prevention and education, and reproductive education.
Feminism? When did sexual equality become a "liberal" agenda item. I thought it was an ammendment to the constitution.
So... I guess your saying conservatism means giving up your rights and freedoms, losing control over your reproductive organs, and keeping females locked barefoot and pregant in the kitchen?
Um, no I don't think ANY of those organizations are "liberal" unless you mean protecting freedom... SO you are against freedom? wierd.
I wonder why I even bother to read these things. It somehow seems unlikely that either canidate actually has the time or the inclination to sit around and respond to these things. I'd like to see one where the first question is:
"Do you solomly swear upon your honor and favorite religious symbol that the answers given in this document are written, typed or dictated soley by...."
I think the real question is will you be upgrading just your CPU next or doing another CPU + Motherboard upgrade?
If you are going to wait 2 or 3 years and go for a full MB+CPU then you can get the best bang for you buck on a high end Athlon or the "old" AMD64 chips. If you are going to upgrade your cpu again in a year then go for a 939 Motherboard and lowend 939 CPU like the 3500+ since you will be able to pop in a current FX chip a year and a half from now for the price of a current Athlon.
The other thing to take into consideration is will you need new RAM and Power Supply to go along with your new MB and CPU. Build that into your cost when you are comparing things.
I just recently spec'd my own systems and I went with the 939 AMD3500+ But I went with a whole new system since just about all my other hardware is 7+ years old;) My thought on the matter was 2 fold in regards to 32bit vs 64bit. 1. I wanted to experiment with 64bit linux 2. I figured I would be getting a "free" upgrade when win64 comes out and 64bit games start becoming available. 2.5 Since I only do this once in a blue moon for my personal system, I wanted that warm glow of knowing I'll have a "little god" for a month or 2;)
With the 2.6.8 kernel and K3b the very nice KDE cdburning suite, non root users could not burn CDs. I think this was fixed with 2.6.8.2 Most distro's put in their own patch also.
I don't know that it affected other cd burning tools.
Take the money we are wasting on abstinence propaganda and shove it into research of 100% side effect free and effective birth control and STD vaccines. Innoculate against STD's just like measles, chickenpox, polio, smallpox.
Reached Menarch or had your first wet dream? Congrats! You get a party!! And you get your birth control implant that you will wear till the day you can pass a literacy test, afford to put 4 years of colledge tuition and 18 years child support into a trust fund.
Reproduction is too important to be ruled by superstion. Reproduction is NOT a right, a duty, or a blessing. It is the most significant privledge one has.
Sex is good. Safe Sex is very good. ANY pregnancy outside of a situation that provides a stable loving safe affluent environment for the child is very very bad (regardless of age, marital status, sexual preferences, race, creed or religion).
If we finally give up all these superstitious prejudices regarding sexual reproduction and recreation and deal with these matters like rational adults, then we could actually educate our children on the matter rather than filling them up with so many conflicting and derranged ideas that they - like most adults! are unable to think or act rationally in regards to sex.
Apparently the Dems were not THAT effective or manipulative in there previous gerrymandering as apparently they are no longer in power. The point of the article is that using new tech the current Republicans are REALLY locking in their majority.
Also, I may be wrong on this part but I think they used their current majority to force through a redistricting order outside of the normal schedule in an attempt to make their majority permanent.
As far as being one-sided, as a earlier poster said, the history of Dem attempts was mentioned.

Yeah. I found that interesting myself. I've got Karma to burn so I'm not too concerned. I wonder if a lot of republicans got moderator points today, it was just too obvious, or people REALLY like JibJab?
The Other interesting thing is that all the downward mods are "Overrated" which slashdot rumor says does not come up for meta-moderation, so it might imply that the people moderating it down thought it might be injust and would reflect badly on their karma. Or maybe it WAS over rated;)
Anyway, Good point about the obviously untrue ideas making the true ones seem less credible. The gay jokes were just so... 3rd Grade. The original really was quite amusing. I wonder if they were a one hit wonder or if they have gotten more riled up as Nov 2 comes closer.
After the VP debates I was wondering why they even bothered to talk to the supporters of each side. What else are they going to say besides "our guy won"? But then I realized this election has so thoroughly polorized the country that they probably couldn't FIND anyone left who wasn't already on one side of the fence or the other. At least if you ask a campaign manager their can't be any pretentions of an unbiased opinion.
Mock Bush's intelligence and his fake accent, his monkey face. Mock Cheney for his haliburten connection and words on the floor (that was good), Mock Kerry as a Mass. To continue to preserve democracy in the United States, we MUST have at least a 3rd, and hopefully a 4th, 5th, 6th, Xth, party.
HOWEVER, voting for a 3rd party presidential canidate IS a wasted vote and considering how bad the current state of affairs today, IMNSH opinion irresponsible.
There are a lot more offices up for election on Nov 2nd than just the president. If you really want to get 3rd parties in the running vote for the lesser evil for the national offices, but start voting in 3rd party canidates for say, your local alderman, mayor, county clerk, sherriff, treasurer ect. Your decleration of disgust will mean about nothing in a national election - especially with the whole messed up electoral system - but your vote will COUNT in a local election. If only 100 people bother to vote for county clerk and you and 10 buddies vote 3rd party, or write in, then that is a 11% vote for the non duopoly canidate - enough to get them on the ballot next year.
We will not diversify government by only aiming at the big apple on top. Thats just tilting at windmills. It has to been done by a grass-roots effort. Nope. Point out the very most important fact: Debian Can Not go out of buisness, change its buisness model or decide it wants to charge you 1K for your next upgrade. It also has about 1.5 - 2 years between releases so you don't have to constantly play catchup. It is PERFECT for a conservative environment.
Make it Planescape Torment. Best RPG I've played in about 10 years. The setting is marvelous, really catching the steampunk-noir feel of the planescape setting, the dialog options actually enjoyable and fit the theme, the characters are truley memorable and often quite amusing, AND it can be finished without devoting months of your life to it. You can hold real sometimes philisophical! conversations with your companion NPCs.
Now if you want Morrowind open-endedness, this aint it. It is basicly a novel that you get to play through, but a quite compelling one. Sorry about the gushing, it was just one hell of a game. I think I still have it installed on a PC somewhere;)
Yes it is free, but I get enough junk mail that I don't want to sign up for a mailing list for an OS that I don't use or even "offcially" support. You don't have to join a club to file bugs on the CUPS project, the Mozilla project, or even MS visual C++
Your point is taken, but my point is that even though the bug has been pointed out, we have gone serveral iterations of releases and sub releases and it still hasn't been fixed.
This bug was filed years ago right after OS X moved to CUPS.
I'd love to file/refile a bug myself... except that you have to be an ADC member to do so. As I am not a client or developer of apple I really don't want to do that. I'm just a poor sysAdmin who has to clean up the mess after my users buy shiney new laptops and then start covering the floor of the printer room with pages of jibberish.
I have told them to file, as they are the ones that payed for the software, but THEY are not developers either and don't want to sign up...
Does it seem a little strange to have to join a club to just let someone know about a bug?
So I urge anyone who IS a member of the ADC to file a bug report on this, including you Orbital Sander - You are a member right?
Thank you! Quite amusing. I guess I'm not as original as I thought I was ;)
