  1. Pretty simple on Universal to Copyprotect All CDs · · Score: 1

    If I can't play it, I won't buy it.

  2. Why is everyone lawsuit happy in the US? on TV Networks Sue ReplayTV · · Score: 1, Insightful

When are major media corps going to realize that they can't beat it so they should just join it. Media being shared on the net is here to stay and the more they try to control it, the more people will fight it underground.

  3. Optimized for Quake at the expense of other games on ATI Drivers Geared For Quake 3? · · Score: 1

Remember Minigl drivers from 3dfx? Just enough GL for Quake, but fuck all for any program that called a function Quake didn't use. Same deal here, the company I work for is making a GL game that runs fine on nVidia cards, but can't run on a Radeon 8500 because it doesn't support triangle strips up to spec. Funny that it runs Q3 no problem though.

  5. Does anyone else see this as a non-event? on Apple releases iPod · · Score: 1

Apple makes a portable music player... whoopee. It has some advancements over typical MP3 players, but my god it's NOT revolutionary.

  6. What's with the publisher hostility on Ultima Revived · · Score: 3, Insightful

"EA owns the rights to Ultima and all of its characters, and in this case, no permission was requested or granted," said Jeff Brown, an Electronic Arts spokesman. "As for Richard Garriott's approval, that's like getting permission from Toto to remake The Wizard of Oz."

Nice quote. What's the deal with publishers these days being hostile to everyone including developers? Look at Bioware and Interplay.

  7. Re:Macs, Slashdotters, This Question on Professional Audio on Linux? · · Score: 1

That's a load of BS. I have a Mac and a PC in my office that I use for audio. Hate the Mac, love the PC. THere isn't a damn thing I can't do on the PC that I do on the MAc and the programs cost more on the Mac anyway.

  8. Re:Macs? on Professional Audio on Linux? · · Score: 1

Not only that, but plug-in software is cheaper on the PC. Same plug-in on a Mac is 10-20% more than a PC

  9. Very little plug-in support on Professional Audio on Linux? · · Score: 1

I make video game sounds for a living and although running Linux for audio would be cool there is next to no support for DirectX adn VST plug-ins. Without plug-ins there is no reason to move to Linux.

  10. Bioware is using OpenAL for NWN on Whither OpenAL? · · Score: 1

Read in a few places that Bioware is trying OpenAL for NWN because it's the only non-MS API supported by a major sound card maker.

  11. Young offenders on Mafiaboy Gets His Wrist Slapped · · Score: 1

Canada's justice system is quite lenient on young offendere. Believe it or not he probably would have gotten the same sentence for almost beating a person to death.
