i would agree speed is trivial in this case, but I had written a program )(in java) that parses an ISO9660 filesystem, this program ran relativly slow (relativly compared to what a C prog would take...no i dont ahve times presently) most of the time taken was due to the lack of the ability to cast a set bytes to a class. In java i was required to read in each individual variable (and yes..there are ALOT of them)
i would have to disagree, I have experince in all three languages, Java is no where NEAR the speed of C, java makes everything High level and must be run through in an interpreter in order to run (which is most of the slow down), with C, you have acces to many atomic actions and your code is much lower level (of course writing BAD code could give you the same speed as java...)
Java pet peeves:

to define a constant: public static final int foo;
*I hate having to uyse parseInt to use an int.

I wonder how secure they expect this to be? I know I wouldn't want to run an Accounting program (or anything similar) via the internet. Does anyone have any experience with the code to share info?

Does anyone have any *good* links to online XML references? whenever I look all i find are things like "What is XML?..Its not HTML"
"make no mistake.." am I the only one thats noticing EVERYONE is using this phase after the president's speech tuesday?? I've heard it over and over on the news (and no, its not people quoting the pres, they use it in thier own flavor" , and now in this article about drilling they use it.....sheesh.
I wonder how selling of "virtual items" fits in with the idea of virtual property? Is it okay to sell something you didnt create? (If i were to plant a garden, is it (for lack of a better term) ethical for you to pick my flowers and sell them?)
I think now they are gearing those specialty blocks towards collectors and older "kids (the slashdot crowd?) I know after work today i think I might have to go out and buy one of those "buckets" of legos heh =)
heh, no I didn't have any of the pneumatic stuff (i dont think they had it until a set or two later) heh, yea improvising with rubberbands and string was always fun (used string to build cranes that would lift the blocks heh)
Every child should have legos! I remember when i was a kid, I got lego "technics" (i think the first set to have interlocking gears and such) its a great way for kids to learn machinery! (Heh, duct-taping a 9-volt and a motor ripped out of another toy to the gears was always fun)
Finally! hearing news like this is great! sometimes it makes you wonder when people have patenets and jsut worry about moeny and PR, brazil is doing the right thing.

Really, who thinks of doing stupid stuff like this? *not meant to be a troll/flame or whatever, things jsut start to get ridiculous after a while*
They should start making aliases for each numbered relases similar to what distribs do...for example kernel 2.5.x should be called "Orville" 2.6 could be "Jiffy"
Wasn't ole linus talking about doing away withthe kernel boot messages? Did they do that? (it doesn't look like it from the change logs) personally, I think it would be a great idea...at least have some button (like esc) wired to start showing boot messages when pressed.
(sorry didnt mean to make this a wish list)

Heh, cool you can now replace those *missing* lego pieces! =) (or create new ones??)

maybe your looking at too much porn cmdrtaco! =P
heh, yea, all they have to do is re-release a version of code-red and not fix it, it will eventually slow everything down =)

Your correct that it doesnt force people to install it, but those of them that install it sooner than later, help prevent faster spread of the worm.
Open source allows for faster fixes.
