The benefit of doing business online and paying out the buttocks for shipping is to save the 8.5% we get charged for sales tax where I live. How many people do you think are going to buy products online from me if I have to slam an additional 8.5% onto them. Locals have to pay it simply because they are getting the benefit of having someone local rape them for cash. It's sad, but at least every county plow truck is brand new and there's a metric ton of open space now preserved..... until the county doesn't have enough money to pay of the financing on the plow trucks and up pops a strip mall to cover for it.
I hate it, I'm probably among the most skilled computer troublshooters in my town. However I can't practice my trade legally because of a county law requiring me to have an appliance repair license, or get the super duper new "computer repair license". Slight problem with that is I must work for another business that is licensed for two years before I get mine... there's only three licensed business throughout the entire county and they are NOT hiring. Now my county has stepped up assinitity another notch by requiring me to be an electrician to install network and phone wires... yup that's right an electrician I have to work in the industry under a licensed electritian for five years to get this.... I have no problem paying money and taking tests for a license, but I just can't find the place to, or make the time commitment... I'm ready to jump out of my skin... if anybody can help me I'd be much appreciative.
Should add, I'm an ambulance volunteer, no one in my house shot themself, just a near patient we would've had. If someone had found him two hours sooner.
Actually, that's why at the end of the day nurses are still required to understand basic CPR. Becuase power goes out, generators fail, computer crash. In the end a human can still manually/mechanically sustain your life until the automated system can be restored. I use computers in most my life, but I have learned that if you depend on computers for your life.. you're playing nothing but a game of russian roulette (pardon the pun).
I've had handguns in my home since I was born (father's a former police officer), I was shown them, held them (empty of course), instructed never to touch them. Never did we have a problem having guns in our house. Three days ago a person shot themself with a vintage musket. A MUSKET??? To go to the logical conclusion one would have to consider implementing this technology on all firearms or outright banning them. Which wouldn't work, because less-than-law-abiding citizens would less-that-abide by a legislated ban. Anyway, my $.02, exercise the 2nd amendment RESPONSIBLY.
Macromedia Dreamweaver and maybe fireworks are the only two things that I wish were portable to Linux, then I'd take this W!ndows 2000 pack it up and sell it on ebay and go nothing but penquin. I'm just not happy with any web design tools (WYSIWYG) on linux. GIMP gets the job done, but I like the way fireworks gets it done. I could switch most everyting else if I could get dreamweaver on Linux... and that most definatly WON'T happen if it becomes Microsoft Dreamweaver... BLEGH!!!!!
I love my PDA, the only thing I can complain about is it size and lack of durability. I either leave it at home because it doesn't fit anywhere or I crush it when I sit/twist/walk. If it was small, perhap implantable (direct neural link) or something that strapped to my arm that is translucent, light, and durable enough to go where I go (ditch digging, ambulance rescue, automotive mechnics, etc). That would be a good start for my PDA.
I was hired by a regional ISP while enrolled in high school, in freshman (9th grade) year. I was young, and fresh to the world of business/IT, that's what gave me my competative edge. Most of the web dev/programming staff (college level or better, approx. 5 people) were fired for poor performance/knowledge prior to the completion of my work contract. I was able to surpass the work/skill level of the 3 college aged people with no industy experience outside of the classroom, one former employee of another defunct ISP with three years "experience", and a thirty-something graphic artist that had ten years of experience from bouncing from job to job... understandably caused by lack of work ethic, lazziness, and poor skills. When I completed working only one member of the development team left, fresh out of college with no previous experience who I worked very well with. While although she surpassed my skills and abilitiess, we managed to split the workload that allowed us to continue production. So people do get hired with no skills at a young age to work in the IT industry, however, of the five people fired four of them treated me like I was the coffee boy, and the other just ignored me. There's your measure of maturity. I admit that my experience wasn't the core of IT management, I didn't work with any e-commerce or advanced web scripting or even major dynamic content. I was in ninth grade after all. But I did manage to create a dozen or so static sites, two database backends, and manage two *ugh* IIS servers running on NT 4.0 . I held several other positions in the following years with different firms, but the one I just described is the the one most relevant to the point.
Cost me ~$160 all said in done, but I enjoy reading through pounds of state "idiot's guides". It's actually quite cheap, but it saves you a lot if you have employees who don't classify on as being brilliant. If you have a corporation and an employee zaps a computer they'll turn around and sue the company, and your personal assets will be protected.
That's true, but consider this, people generally look to games and movies as an expression of fantasy or an outlet. Most humans have core interests to do illegal things. I'd prefer that people vent these interests into video games then letting them bottle up until they "snap". I've played many violent and gruesome video games and I thoroughly enjoyed the Die Hard movies, and things of the like. But I'm just a normal working guy, I don't blow things up, don't steal cars, and I pay my taxes. So I think the problem is that the people that go out of line either have chemical imbalances (natural or recreationally induced) or are in need of support from responsible people at stages in their development. Your thoughts?

I used my floppy drive twenty seconds ago to: Reboot a failed server, reboot a failed laptop, oh, and its the only storage space on my linux router.
