I don't know about the rest of you but, I'm getting sick and tired about hearing of people complaining about spam!!! It is fucking stupid! Get over it! Spam is not that inconvienient! I get 50 - 100 spam a day on my email account, and I'm not complaining and demanding that it be stopped, or that laws be enacted to stop it (spam).
I also have a corporate email account that has been active for 2 years, and I don't get more than a couple spam emails a month! You know why? Because I'm selective about who I give it out to!!! Only clients and real people, not web forms, unless they are reputable! Its just part of being online and using email. Just like your phone number! You don't give your phone number unless you know what its being used for.
And you know what else? Spam is functioning on the same principal as junk mail (physical), except I have to do a lot more to get rid of my junk mail because I actually have to walk to my mailbox and pick it up first. You don't hear many people complaining about this!! With email (spam) at least all I have to do is press the FUCKING DELETE KEY!!!! All of you anti-spam zelots need to devote your time and engery to a better cause!

"- they were not contacted by the company directly," says Tolman, who adds that the software likely was downloaded via FTP or some other file-sharing protocol.
Damn! The FTP & P2P protocols strike again! Without FTP OR P2P, nobody could download this evil software! BAN FTP!! BAN P2P!! Nobody will download bad software again!
In America at least, I think the struggling economy is mostly to blame. Manufacturers are just trying to cut costs to bring their profit margins up, and one of the easiest ways of cutting costs is cutting quality.
This seems to be a disturbing and all to common trend, but hopefully they (manufacturers) will get bit in the ass by customer support and replacement costs, causing them to rethink their strategy!
This is awesome, now we've been seeing more online "Open-Source" books of good quality available. In fact I just watched the screen savers on tech tv a couple of nights ago (Kilt episode) and saw an interview with another open source publisher.
Unfortunately I think that a lot of people will right these guys off as amatuer writers, because they aren't just using traditional publishing means, as well as the fact that other people are helping write the book!
I don't care what other people think cuz I like 'em!
All I know is that I love MS Natural Keyboard, it makes typing alot easier for me, I don't know if it is any more healty. When I go to a plain keyboard, I have trouble typing accurately, and I have to position my arms in a slighly unnatural position. I also have a ergo-MS Wireless Explorer Optical mouse, and now I hate all other mice, the MS Wireless Optical is by far the best feeling mouse ever (although a bit inaccurate, as I still play Unreal with a corded mouse)!
I think that if you are in a position where you use your keyboard 8 hours a day, the ergo-keyboards help, maybe not health wise, but certainly comfort wise.
Hold a meeting with your staff, and explain to them the dangers, liabilities and your other various points. Explain it so THEY will understand what you are talking about, without talking DOWN to them. If they are responsible adults, they will understand and should comply somewhat if not entirely.
I always believe that it is easiest to reason with people before going behind their backs with rules, policies, etc. Once you have an understanding established, then apply some rules and policies, with the backing of the staff.
Beyond that if they won't work with you, then block the common file sharing ports or throttle the bandwidth to their workstations! That will always work!
I don't know if this has to do with my D-Link network switch or what (the old one had a corrupt table inside it on one of the PROMs, screwed up our network. I have a strong feeling this is the case again). All I know is most of the time I have 20-75% of webpages with broken images. I have to right click, h for show images (Internet Exploder), just to see the images. Again, YMMV.
I know! I had the same problem with my starband 180 unit. I had 3 Win2k, 1 WinXP (RC2), 1 Linux and 1 Win98 box, and they all experienced the broken image problem. I never quite pinpointed it (I discontinued use of Starband, in favor of using a ranged wireless 802.11 link to a local ISP!) but I think it had something to do with the routing software I was using. I was using a P200 w/ Win98, and WinProxy's special version of their starband proxy.
My new wireless provider rocks, and I get about 750kbps up and 300kpbs down now! I'm now using a linux box (SmoothWall) firewall/router/proxy, which is awesome, great remote administration and FAST! A far cry from the crappy starband!
Woo hoo! Star Trek the Next Generation all the way. Not only is it the best Trek of all time, I'd argue that its one of the best sci fi series of all time, and also the most famous! Ya gotta love em!
XOSL, an alternative to Lilo, AND, Grub.
XOSL, LILO and Grub are boot loaders! AMD makes microprocessors! The person who posted this obviously spelled "and" wrong!
I've had this type of problem with a samsung monitor I recently bought for my desktop in my office.
I was using a 15" AOC monitor that had seen better days so I decided that weekend, to go out and buy a 19" monitor. I went to best buy and looked through the monitors and decided that the Samsung had the best picture and features of all of them. I purchased the monitor and took it home. I was very happy with the product... for 1 week. Exactly 1 week after I bought it, the monitor began flashing white every couple hours. The next day the focus and size controls would randomly go out of sync every couple of minutes. I called up samsung and described my problem, and they said: "uh oh", yes thats right. I've never heard those words come out of a tech's mouth, but he said "uh oh... It sounds like its broken, you should take it back to best buy." So I was angry, and not able to work on my computer for the lack of a monitor (allready gotten rid of the 6 yr old 15"), I took it back (100 mile round trip) to best buy, and you know what happened??!! They didn't have any other 19" monitors in stock!! ARGHHHH!!!! Not to mention no other store in my town had 19" monitors in stock (they all had to be special ordered, because 19" monitors are not in high demand)!!! So I went back to my office, monitorless, and had to find a friend to borrow a monitor. I am now looking for a good monitor to buy on pricewatch.
Overall BestBuy and Samsung have left a very bad impression on me, and they don't even seem to care. I can tell you one thing for sure. I'll never buy anything from Samsung or BestBuy again.
I know I'm going to suffer a karma hit, but someone has to say it!

Its not 'heals' its 'heels'. You know the saying 'on the heels of ...'. We're talking about the body part not something a doctor does.

This is an AWESOME Idea! I'm glad to see people are doing something constructive about a problem rather than blaming it on someone else!
