Yes but the billion comes with plenty o'strings. CBC french version gets a significant chunk and it does a better job with what they have over the english side.

But ya CBC has commercials, which I think it silly. I wonder what the BBC budget is? Looks like over 2.5 billion pounds (6 billion CDN). BBC annual report is interesting.

  2. BBC has, CBC doesn't -- no commercials on CBC Opens ZeD.cbc.ca Code · · Score: 4, Insightful
BBC has money from TV licence fee.. CBC has scraps from the CDN government. BBC programs change it up regularly and run on odd seasons that usually consist of many mini-series like Auf Weidersen (totally awsome). BBC has multiple channels that are available to everyone since well before cable and satellite and no commercials unless they are self promotion. CBC has crap. Nevermind BBC Radio.. Radio 1 defines pop culture in the UK, or so it seems.

You can enjoy anything with no commercials in it... I live with a Brit.. she can't stand North American tv commercials...and to be honest I constantly wonder why we pay so much for cable that consists of 60% or more commercials.

To me this makes sense.. they found a way to use the current infastructure with new technology. Is this not what hydrogen fueled vehicles were waiting for? It also helps that they have something the size of a tank and the funding of the Bush fueled military to develop it.

I always thought that if you could convince the military of real savings you will get your new technology developed.. but saying your tanks can fight longer, requiring less resources, with relatively slight modifications probably is the key selling point here.

If I am not mistaken, the only thing that slowed the march in Iraq was the fuel chain....

  14. No bargin in Canada... fees fees fees on Exchange Rates Play With Online Music Prices · · Score: 3, Informative

Sure the exchange rate might give Canadians a bit of a deal but the extra 'fees' on blank media we pay makes it so we pay twice or three times for the music. Recently there have been $25 fees added to ipods and the ilk but downloading was also decided to be legal in Canada but uploading is not. CD-R's went up in price a couple times as well with the money going to the recording industry. Who would be silly enough to pay to download in Canada when the Canadian RIAA already has us paying since everyone already downloads for free according to them.
