AOL users are stupid. I've said it before ( http://slashdot.org/comments.pl?sid=26708&cid=2885 576 ) and I'll say it again. If someone is dumb enough to use AOL they deserve what they get. And since AOL caters to the idiots then they should have seen it coming. Most AOL using idiots are going to click OK to get rid of an annoying ad, even when there's a no thanks button. AOL is the itiot's internet. They should expect to have some users that are too lazy to read the words on the buttons they click. And this is why it's always wise to stay clear of ISP's that make you install software in order to access them. For $25 a month plus ad banners you get a crappy dial up service with its own software that crashes most of the time.

And how many people will really wake up at 9 or 10 in the morning to watch it one last time before it has to go back at noon? Blockbuster knew what they were doing. Not on only do people forget to bring their movies back by noon, alot of people are at work then, some are just waking up or still asleep. Now they have all these people for some reason or another who couldn't get their movies back by noon, and now have late fees where they normally would not.

  10. AOL sucks anyway on AOL Time Warner Files Anti-Trust Suit against MS · · Score: 0, Flamebait

Personally I shy away from any ISP that requires it's own software to connect. AOL sucks, MSN sucks, and netscape sucks. Netscape is a free download. Anyone who wants it can use it. It's not as if Microsoft is stopping people from downloading Netscape. Heck if it weren't for IE you really couldn't go to netscape.com and download Netscape if you really wanted it. They should thank Microsoft for including IE in its OS so people who want Netscape have a way to get to their page to download it. It's not as if the average everyday computer using idiot who thought they got a real good deal on their crappy little E-machine because it was only $475 knows how to access an FTP site. Since AOL caters to the common everyday idiot they should be glad Microsoft gives idiots access to Netscape.com to download netscape the only way an idiot would know how, by opening IE and clicking the download button. And I agree that it's stupid for AOL to own netscape and package AOL with IE. I do tech support on the phone, and I almost want to cry every time someone says they're having internet trouble and I come to find out their internet service is AOL. I can't stand AOL, they get idiots to sign up claiming it's sooo easy, and the idiots buy into it because their commercials offer them things like, a buddy list, and e-mail, and the ability to send pictures to their family. Helloooo... You can have all those things on ANY ISP!! How many idiots will they get to sign up because of their "you've got pictures" feature before they all figure out all you have to do is attach the pictures to an email. How many idiots will they get to sign up with the promise of a buddy list before they figure out you can download AOL instant messanger and not only have a buddy list but have better features like file transfers etc. And how many idiots will sign up thinking it's going to be fast because the commercial says it's fast before they figure out that it's still dial up and is no faster than any other dial up connection. AOL's problem isn't Microsoft. AOL's problem is the large group of idiots it has as users. People who think AOL IS the internet, and don't realize that the internal browser on the AOL software isn't the only one they can use. People who don't know what words like minimize means. People who don't understand the simple file structure of a computer well enough to browse for a file to attach to an email. People who call 3.5 inch floppies hard disks and people who can't understand the difference between RAM and hard drive space. And when you tell them they're running out of memory they ask if they need to delete some things. This is AOL's problem. These people don't even know what a netscape is. And since AOL software comes with a built in browser they aren't smart enough to even bother with caring. If they want people to use netscape they need to make it AOL's internal broswer or make a big GET NETSCAPE button on their software so idiots will realize it's there, stop packaging it with IE and leave Microsoft alone.

  13. farscape etc. on Farscape Signs for 2 More Years · · Score: 1, Informative

Farscape I like. Lexx seems stupid to me though. I haven't got a chance to see Enterprise yet, but, I already see a flaw in it. The Klingons. In the original series Klingons looked human, it wasn't until the first movie that they had bumpy heads. Enterprise is set before the original series. So logically Klingons would look human. This flaw in the story line wouldn't be a big deal, but the writers have already addressed the fact that somewhere in the fictional history the Klingons went through some type of change. In the DS9 episode trials and tribble-ations the DS9 crew look at Warf in disbelief when he tells them that the human like beings at the other table are indead Klingons. Of couse we don't know exactly what happened (other than an increase in the makeup artists' budget) because Warf explains to the crew, "We do not discuss it with outsiders". The point is, they've already accepted in the story line that something happened in the history of the Klingons that changed their appearance forever. And now the Klingons in Star Trek Enterprise look like the new Klingons. Major flaw in the story line.

  14. before MP3 on CD Copy Protection Head Speaks · · Score: 0

The music industry is so upset that people are copying music by using mp3's. Do they not realize that before it became popular to copy music to your computer people still borrowed their friend's CD's and copied them to audio cassette? They didn't pay for it, the weren't going to pay for it. All they wanted to do is hear the song whenever they wanted. Do they not also realize that alot of people then and still now record songs off the radio on to an audio cassette? And did they freak out then and try to alter the audio cassette industry or put some sort of copy protection signal in the radio waves then to stop people from copying music? Did they try to copy protect CD's then so people couldn't copy them to tape? No, and no one really cared. True it took longer then, you had to wait for your favorite song and get to the radio to hit record before the song progressed to far, or just happen to have a friend who had the CD you wanted, But you still got free music that you could listen to anywhere and whenever you wanted. Now instead of putting your free music on blank tapes you can put it on blank CD's. Instead of recording it on the radio or getting it from a friend you can download it from a "virtual friend". It's the same concept, and back then no one cared one way or another. It was quite common to find people with tapes full of favorite songs they had recorded from different sources. The only difference now is the technology used to record and listen.

If you can't get DSL, get cable, if you can't get cable, get a dish. There's no excuse anymore. Broadband is progress. Whining about the net going broadband is like whining about computers no longer having 5.25 inch floppy drives, or that you can't put a 80 gig drive in your old 486 because they're descriminating against people with older computers and making hard drives that won't work. Then net is just growing, and Broadband is the way it's growing. Some day there will be a technology faster than cable or dsl. When that day comes are you going to sit there on dial up and whine still? get over it, call up your cable or phone company and pay the extra money. Chances are it's only twice as much, and it's 100 times faster. How many chances in life do you have to get something 100 times better for only twice as much? boo hoo shut up.
