Your post starts on the right leg, but your train of logic seems to derail before the destination (conclusion.)
While many germans knew the holocost was wrong, (some even went against the nazi's to their own hurt) most did nothing. The germans who did nothing, can be compared to you doing nothing to protect the unborn. Justifying the death of child is equally trivial to justifying death of another race.
Children dying in Iraq is another matter altogether. To me it's caused by a lack of morals in the people who lived there. Most people heard of children dying, but did not hear the cause. The islam/materialist men who were fighting for saddam did not protect their families, they did the opposite and used them as human shields, while attempting to kill americans.
You might question my morals, but I'd kill all of them... only in the cause of freeing them from such evil.
I guess it's surprising brian hook is interested in anything to do with web design, an activex intrest is even more odd.
ActiveX is an aweful problem, I guess the only reason IE users are as safe as they are is the level of integrity in many website (better than we have thought in the past maybe...)
I find it disturbing this comment was modded funny because it's true.
Fashion clothing is sold directly from china, and other parts of asia on ebay, and it's almost always fake.
What gives with this 4years, $6400, per copy? Seriosly avg movie costs $20, and is worth only $7. Seems like 2 hours prison time per copy would be more appropriate.
I think you're a little confused, actually quite confused.
Qt and GTK have little to do with the overall speed of any desktop envirenment. Judging from the numbers of "independent" applications, I think you'll see that GTK is still a great toolkit.
Of course MS update is for end users, unfortunatly they always get screwed.
The problem is, end user isn't a skill level, it's a position. When I go to my community college, the IT service people use MS Windows update, and they don't even keep up with that. The result: All college students get less use of the campus machines (including online coursework, etc).
So, yes windows update was intended for "end users", but that doesn't mean they wont get burned from 'admins' (in position, but not skill) using the wrong tools.
By the way, I wasn't trying to put down gentoo, but I wasn't about to claim that it's stable (especially the updates part)
Microsoft commonly waits months before they fix a found announced vulnerability. In the past Microsoft has attempted to ignore vulnerabilities, forcing security heads to make public announcements.
Dont be fooled by the statistics, NT4 hasn't been supported for a while. When was the last service pack for NT4?
The difference between support on linux and support on windows is mostly statistical. Look at debian, gentoo, even freebsd. You can upgrade to stable packages (maybe not gentoo) dynamically without running a time wasting installer.
I personally dont like these automated tools, but I'd probably use them before windows update on a critical security network.
Certainly spammers "should" label their explicit emails as such, but you have to remember who we are fighting.
They do not accept unsubscribe requests, and they generally ignore federal laws on fruad.
If anyone listens to the FTC, they will still make explicit titles hard to interperet, and therefor hard to filter. You wouldn't expect your newspaper to put all solicitations in the back seperated from everything just to make things easier for you the subscriber... how can you expect the equivilent of people with no ethics?
The FTC is acting outside of their scope, and they aren't helping anything. The only way they can send a message here is by locking someone up for 9 years, and they simply don't have the legal backing to do so.
It seems to me like the 800lb lazy gorilla (well, maybe dead... FCC) wont carry the piano up the stairs, so the FTC out of sheer initiative attempts to carry it around the block, and up the stairs. Not only is this not their feild, they're not even attempting a viable method.
The only difference being of course that a soccer mom will apologize right before she cuts someone else off.
It's odd, I could say I have nothing against coffee, but then I'd be lying. Most likely the person who told you 'I have nothing against...' really meant he/she doesn't find the activity offensive, but merely boring.
She's probably scared she would have to try a game, and isn't prepared to be that tolerant.
Half the time sex spam uses sex warnings as an allure. The problem here is spam, not sex.
The only way to allow people to avoid sex-spam completely is to get rid of it, and that's not in the ability of the FTC.
This is like a speeding ticket, it hurts someone who is hurting safety. This move cannot help any "innocents" (in fact, it helps nobody) who just want a clean inbox.
HL2 worth mentioning, but you're being extreme

There's no way half life can be legitimally called GOTY 2004. Remember, ut2004, and WoW were both released in 2004.
If you're going to include a "evil empire" release like HL2, you might as well throw Halo 2 in as well.
The evidence supporting your points is good, but your conclusion is faulty. There's nothing stopping people from using linux 2.4 even now. In my experience the updates even in 2.4.28 from linux2.6 don't cause problems. The bottom line is 2.4 is still way better than anything microsoft has to offer, and 2.6 is as well (for most systems)
The linux bsd comparisons are not really relevant. Nobody hoped linux would replace Unix. In the same way users were unaware of the sucess of linux back in the 2.4 "era", they are unaware of problems in the 2.6 kernel.
This isn't too bad as long as distributions can stabelize the current half assed vinella kernel.
I agree with your trusted computing satement, if Microsoft does acknowlege this incident there will only be more problems.
Microsoft has been doing this kind of thing for years, so I dont expect their announcements to suddenly be more honest. I'd be even more surprised if the mass media found the real story instead of propogating microsoft garbage speak.
Microsoft has been loosing credibility for several years now, in the future I look for "non-trusted computing" to be EASIER, and more trusted. When consumers see a open market that meets these requirements (and it's already impressive), they'll seriously consider a new platform.
I see what you're saying. The problem is hard to see but if you force yourself it's possible. There are plenty of charities to support either by giving cash or by giving cpu cycles.
I'm not saying _don't give your spare cycles_ I'm saying give it to someone more deserving. I know folding @ home is health related, and I'm sure they currently support linux with their software.
I have a narrow view of good charities, and this isn't one to me. IBM is violating their own plege to linux, and they are indirectly supporting "the evil empire."
You will find there are many charities with their hand out. To keep work done efficient you'll need to pick charities that support _your_ cause. Charities need to be in touch with their volunteers or they will waste time and money.
Cedega isn't hardly even wine any more. Someone posted that the installer didn't work on his stock debian wine earlier.
I dont see the point of this arcitcle, IBM put together a poorly designed windows only app (for charity).
Should we really be supporting IBM's charities when it's clear they dont respect our cause? I see this as only an attempt to get uber status for slashdot, uber status on a McD's playground that is.
I'm just wondering, does anyone think another contestant has a chance?
Ken went for so many days because he's smart... after he's played for over a month of shows he has such a big advantage. Other players might have been on 10 shows at most (tournaments), but they didn't have the exposure Ken did.
Someone would have to be a lot better to beat Ken, but I haven't seen other contestants play.
I can see why your cable co's deal looks good now. Consider the disadvantages though:
1. Cable co can increase rate (look at contract) 2. Cable co might be paid off to rid people of PVR's. 3. $8/month will cost $350 in just under 2 years.
I don't think so. My mother got totally disallusioned by "learning" about sales tax laws in our state, it's just a real pain.
I don't think sales tax is required of a pure service. Any object or service that you are reselling is already being taxed when sold to you, so in spirit the government has no right to tax again.
If you're going for the whole sales tax hassel, I'd look into getting some of your service taxes dropped (by claiming that you are a reseller.)
Certainly Verisign isn't the only company involved in unethical domain name renewal notices.
I hope you caught my point, We cant trust Verisign for their code signing services. They practice childish business tactics just like phishers, and do not act in the intrest of their customers.
I dont know anyone that trusts verisign. You'd think a security company would practice legitimate business, who would have guessed?
Verisign has a lot against them. The only thing I can think of now is using fake domain name "renewal" notifications to steal business (and cheat users) from legit domain registrars.
These renewal notices were sent at random, to people who did not have domains registered with verisign, and whose domains were not soon expiring.
Users have a right to make a backup copy of their media. This new format does not allow for any backup copies, and even though its nicer than pure DRM, it's still not allowed.
I dont think consumers are going to be concerned with "piracy" until record labels are concerned with fair use. Why should consumers refrain from illegal copy distribution when at every turn the record labels continue to take away fair use rights?
your analogy is clear, but not direct. The hackers hadn't accessed the card numbers personally at all. We have no idea what their intent was, to use the card data to steal, or just to show up Lowes.
What they did was clearly illegal, but I say that Lowes was asking for a hack, and there really is no way we can tell what the hackers were going to do. If we ask them now, they will of course say they were just trying to get lowes to be more responsible.
In this case they are being charged with theft, and it's not even clear that's what they were trying to do. The fact they weren't finished yet is of little importance. I find it distrubing the government doesn't even care what the final intent of these hackers was, but goes right ahead charging them with attempting the worst.
They belong in jail, but the question is, 9 weeks or 9 years?
They were not being "nice" but they weren't hurting anyone (at least not yet). The real problem I have is Lowes was putting credit card data on a wireless network! It wasn't secure enough, as someone knew about it, and successfully exploited it.
So what's worse: Not nice (Hackers), or _grossly_ irresponsible (Lowes)?

justin timberlake is buff? Oh wait hes such a loser after the superbowl :-)
Theres a problem with your thinking. We dont need a reason to mod people down, comments start out low enough.
When a comment is not particularly good at what it was inteded for, and moderated to, the best thing to do is moderate it overrated.
