Game designers/publischers have a genuine interest to make the "laws" as good as they can to serve the needs of all of their users.
Politicians only listen to the people who pay them the most, and they make the rules in a way, that they allways win. The analogy in game design would be to sell the choices in rule design to the highest bidder, and include cheatcodes for those and themselves.

It could help, if the owner of the invalid patend had to pay instead of the tax payer. And not 20% let's say 400%. So People would have to think: "Is this really a new Idea? Well, what a surprise. The RIAA and international counterparts piss of everyone and then they think they are going to make more money? When you want People to buy something from you, you have to be nice to them, or at least pretend so. Here in Germany we have a huge media Campain that basicly says: If you copy cds or dvds you are a criminal and go to Jail.
Not only is this hugely exagerated, it is a plain lie. The only chance of going to jail for that, is when you charge money for it.
But they think they kan scare people into buying crappy songs from crappy mainstream bands...
Well, i own about 25 cd's, all of which were bought, when you could get them for 15DM (about 7.50 EUR). I will not buy anymore untill i can get them for that price or lower again AND they stop behaving like the mafia. It's bad enough, that i pay a fee on each recordable media i buy for recording Knoppix or Debian on it.

Well, when you first touch vi, it's really cryptic, but if you read the first 4 pages of the tutorial, you can do basic text editing in less than 10 minutes. Emacs is even better (for the newbie). When used under X you can do basic text editing instantly.
This does not mean that you have any understanding of the power, that you could be using, if you read the manual. But the learning curve is not very steep to the both of them.
When you first try blender (even after finishing the first tutorial) you can not do basic 3d editing. While that might be a problem of the complexity of the task, other modelers are easyer in the begining.
