Confirmed. Your local Kinko's should have the resources to scan the pages to PDF in an automated fashion. Call around and talk to a couple of locations, if necessary, to get the proper terms and pricing, but it should run about US$0.25 per page. The software used at the Kinko's I'm on familiar terms with (intimately familiar - too much work done there) uses Canon hardware and software and can burn the resulting files on to CD for you (at a cost of US$9.95/cd, of course!)

They can usually do up to tabloid size sheets (11"x17") through the feeder, and expect a turn-around time of 24 hours or so. They can also do OCR scans on the resulting files. The OCR conversion runs around US$9.95 for the first page, and US$2.50-ish for additional pages, and they won't do any correcting of the errors such that result from software retardedness unless you pay extra. It hurts, but if you gotta have it...

Well, I work for a local company specializing in duplications and digital output, and I work with this Bad Boy every day. It's got really nice looking output. It will run just about any stock you put through it, and has a nice RIP interface. Also includes many features that require upgrades on other devices.

Its only weakness that comes to mind is the solid and continuous tone color distribution on non-glossy cardstock. The cardstock absorbs the toner/color goop unevenly causing blotches, making difficult to do large areas of dark, even tones. It's a master at color photos, line art, text, et cetera; as long as the paper stock is suitable.

We also use the Tektronix Phaser 780 and it's really slow. It's decent, but slow. I don't send anything to it unless the Doc12 is in use for a long time. I'm not sure if that's still sold, but I believe it would now be marketed under the Xerox name if so, as they've acquired the laser printer portion of Tektronix.

So, I don't use it anymore. It's a pain. Perhaps I'll try it again some day and things will work. As it is, I don't have the time to troubleshoot it, and the extras/mods I've made to my system are more important to me than restoring this capability and losing so much other functionality. My machine seems OK if I want to do one thing at a time, with minimal background applications running, and then I might be lucky for it to be fast enough that I can do some Illustrator work with a little lag. After Effects? It's slow as a sloth, especially if I want to do any 3D setups. I don't even work in Photoshop anymore unless I have to; the files take up too much space, and filters take forever to run.

I don't know what your setup is, but I do know FCP4 video editing isn't nearly as processor intensive as AFX. I do both, and working with 2, 4, 6 or even 8 layers of video just doesn't take the same (processing, not bandwidth) horsepower that most of my work in AFX does.

Well, if my luck with Bluetooth synchronization is any indication, that means if I buy this wireless mouse and keyboard combo it won't be worth the trouble to use it.

I am severely disappointed with my Apple-based purchases of the last few years; perhaps I am too naive to make good purchasing decisions but it seems that the technology that has influenced my buying decisions doesn't seem to hold up to the promise. For instance, my T68i does not, as you guessed, work very well with iSync or with bluetooth in general. I have standard hardware, a D-Link bluetooth adapter, and the latest software. It's just too much work to get anything accomplished. And I should be able to tell iCal to send a single appointment to my phone!

I have trouble with Rendezvous too, but not time to detail the problem.

Even further back, my purchase of a PowerMac G4 450 DP in anticipation of OS X ended up being short sighted, as by the time OS X is actually usable (v10.0 and 10.1 were not, in a production capacity) the hardware is practically outdated. Top that with the fact that the software package that the facility I was working with dropped Lightwave in favor of 3DSMAX and I feel really burned.

So, I'm about to buy a PC. Custom built, AMD, NForce2, 400MHZ FSB, etc. In a nice, good looking case (without all that neon flashing window shite). And I will run 3DSMAX. And I will use my Apple for production while MAX is rendering. And they will be friends. And if you feel the need to flame me for that, grow up. They're just tools.

For you, the solution may be to change the shortcut key. You can do this by choosing "Edit" --> "Keyboard Shortcuts" and then choosing "Menu Commands" in the popup menu that, by default, is labeled "Tools" (Rather, the "Tools" menu item is chosen by default.) You'll find that under the section titled "View" (turn down the arrow next to it by clicking) there's an item for "Show/Hide Edges." If you click on the actual text indicated as a shortcut you can enter a new key combo. Hit "OK" and resume your work in a frustration-free manner.

I know you probably could've used a much simpler explaination but there are many who would've asked questions or may not have been able to completely understand how to find what I was talking about. Besides, when my students ask this question now I can point them here and be done with it. [Kidding!]
