My lawyer neighbor says this is because they don't want computer people because we think logically and are not emotional.
So when I was called for jury duty, I proudly told them my profession (engineer), and expected to be rejected. However, the case involved two engineers, so I guess the defendent's lawyer tought I would be more sympathetic to his client.

So... any idea why cable's more popular in the US?
Here in the UK and elsewhere in the world, premium TV is done primarily by satellite, so cable isn't an option for most people. Also, in a lot of countries, the phone company has a monopoly on communications.
I don't understand why DSL is $70-80 in the States. Even with a near-monopoly, I get 512/128 ADSL from BT for ~$45/month.
Depending on the application, jukeboxes can cause
unacceptable latency. If the data is accessed via
a web page, you'll lose a lot of customers who won't wait 30+ seconds for the page to start loading. And if a lot of people are using the data (200 disks & 1 drive), the delays will make the system completely unusable.
I don't know whether all the claims made about XBox encryption are true, but even if they are, the XBox encrytpion is more a nuisance than a serious technical barrier to porting other OSes such as Linux and the BSDs to the XBox.
But how much work are you going to have to do just to save a couple hundred USD in hardware? Micro$oft doesn't have to make hacking the XBOX impossible, just uneconomical.

Microsoft targets defectors to Linux
Defector?!?
I don't remember swearing allegiance to Microsoft.

These things will fly at 70,000 feet.
That's well out of range of shoulder-launched SAMs, 22's, BB-guns, and everything else people on this board are suggesting.
Maybe that's the best way to fight spam - post the URL here and let the ./ effect overload their servers/pipe.
Bandwidth costs money, so this approach might persuade them the cost of untargetted advertising is too high.
Maybe we could even automate this?
