Last night I noticed a nifty pulsing red bubble in the upper right-hand corner of my Firefox toolbar. Clicking it revealed a message from the software-updater stating that an urgent fix was availeble. I clicked allow install, and it was done in ten seconds. Very nice that the browser alerted me to a fix and patched itself in no time at all.
At least id created 4 new MP maps etc, even if multiplayer is still buggy, and a Q3 rehash.
Valve just "sourcified" a community mod's gameplay and map content with no, or little, new material.
The dynamic duo certainly took a pass on multiplayer this generation.

Was on August 22nd. Linuxgames.com interviewed Timothee Besset, id's linux client guy.
The interview is here: http://www.linuxgames.com/?dataloc=articles/ttimo/
Botton line, as of the 22nd, he said the linuc client was a few weeks away. It was already working, with "surprisingly good performance compared to the windows version", but he doesn't want to release until it's well polished.
Problem solved. As long as you know the names of your wifi spots, and where they are, you can jut join them manually, rather than roaming for it. Further, if you're not broadcasting your SSID, the wifi cops at the Uni's NOC won't have a clue you're running the device, and ghapless students, wanna be hackers won't netstumble upon your WiFI connection.
It takes 20 seconds to diable the SSID, then you can have an underground list/map of wifi spots, their SSID,s etc circulated to those "in the know". On a Uni, with all the potential for abuse, I wouldn't be broadcasting my SSID, encryption or not...
I can say it kicks all kinds of ass in Doom3.:)
I see that all sors of business/content creation benchmarks were used in the Anandtech review, but when a Baron of Hell corners you an ancient underground Mars excavation site... Well, lets just say your death animation looks all the more sweet with those extra fps.
The odds or our own existence are sigificantly paltry. The odds of intelligent life elsewhere are practically nil.
Get to know your neighbor and forget about ET. The univerese is full of gas and empty rocks.
Gentoo had (has?) a Gentoo Games division w/ the same idea. Seems defunct now. I personally thought it was interesting, but wasn't sure if I really liked the idea of requiring a reboot into the game OS to play a game.
I posed the possibility in some rather discerning forums (Arstechnica.com gaming for one) and the idea was roundly tossed out. NO ONE was willing to think about rebooting to play a game. Sometimes, you're multitasking, and feel like playing a round of your latest game for a bit. Rebooting is just too big a hassle, and windows gamers won't make any moves that don't enhance convenience and enjoyment. Rebooting would be a big negative. If you want a system such as you propose, then a console is the answer, and most PC gamers don't like consoles.
I'd love to see a big title go Linux only or even linux exclusive for a month before general release. I also wish game devs could be coaxed into designing their games from the ground up using cross-platform API's. UT2004, all iD software title, Bioware's neverwinter nights, and S2Games' Savage all show it can be done, but most devs go the MS only route. Its a shame. I also think that big time linux gaming support could be the key to massive linux home PC adoption.
Sigh. Have you EVER bothered to read the licensing for YaST? It is open, you can take it, reuse it. modify and redistribute it. You just have to credit SuSE and print "modified Version" on the menu screen and in the code. Read the YaST license for once instead of harping on Internet misconceptions.

It is free. The only ISO they ever release for gtheir distros is a live CD. You can try a live CD for SuSE 9.0 right now if you'd like:
ftp://ftp.suse.com/pub/suse/i386/live-eval-9.0
SuSE Pro was typically $79, now its $89.
SuSE Pro Update (the best deal, Pro without manuals) was $49, now its $59.
SuSE Personal was $39, now its $29.
As for SATA drives, I've installed SuSE 9.0, Slack 9.1 and Mandrake 10.0 on my SATA drive without issue or any special voodoo. I'm on an Abit IT7-Max2 v.2 Intel/P4 motherboard with an onboard Highpoint 374 Raid Controller that the SATA drive is attached to.

I was taken aback by the significant speed improvements. 1st time I've ever done a KDE upgrade and really noticed the changes.
The Plastik Style is finally a pleasant, harmless change of pace, the bouncing activity icons are actually cool this time. I still find the file manager far more versatile than the one found in gnome. Overall well worth the install. I just did a wget on a mirror for SuSE 9 RPM's,removed some of the development RPM's I didn;t need and did an RPM -Uvh *.rpm. Worked great. I'll admit, it's the superficial thinbgs I like and notice, ie better looking penguin icons for the kdm login manager and a cool choice os splash screens, etc.
I'd been running Slack 9.1 for a long while with Dropline Gnome, still the most beeyootiful Desktop environment, but it doesn't have the functionality of KDE. I like both projects thhough, hopefully Novell can give each the room to do their own thing, even if KDE gets the nod as the preferred Novell/SuSE desktop.
Because the Savage linux client binaries have trouble with SMP systems, and HT is treated as an SMP setup. Just 'cause of that one title. Not related to Nvidia.
Yeah. Good luck. Try finding a SINGLE 9800XT/Linux success story on the Internet right now. I just sold an XT and am using the FX5900U. Flat out best gamig card for linux right now except for the 5950.
I'm working fine with the new drivers and NWN:HoTU as well as all my other games (Savage, ET). I didn't use the -update command, I downloaded the binaries from Nvidia, and it compiled for my system (slack 9.1, Dropline Gnome). No issues at all thus far and I played NWN for 3 hours today.
I'm using an FX 5900U on a P4 3Ghz w/ HT disabled.
Yeah. You need a JRE. I just went to Sun's website and downloaded/installed the current offering from their website for my Slackware 9.1 desktop.
You type in the IP of the Karma (which can be static or leased via DHCP) and you can launch either the music manager or the rio "Taxi" program, which allows you to upload data files for storage.
Works great! Contrary to a review linked on the last/. OGG/MP3 player article, the Java client works perfectly. I was able to use it to transfer and delete songs over ethernet from both my Linux desktop and my Powerbook laptop.
The Win32 software and a USB2 connection seem to be required for firmware updates, but it works fine with factory firmware.
It's not as elegant as the iPod in the layout of controls and the Interface, but no showstoppers. The addition of ethernet (only via a cradle) and a java client for mac/linux sealed the deal. I recommend it.
my treo 270 last month, this may work out well. Although $399 ain't cheap, its less expensive than a new 270 would have cost me last week. I ended up switching carriers to ATT and got the Sony t610.
Now I can just pop in my 270 serial number, et voila. Maybe by the time ATT supports the Treo, I can save up the ducats. Lack of bluetooth is a glaring omission though, at least for Apple users. The powerbook sync to bluetooth with my current t610 ($49 bucks as a new ATT customer) is simple and convenient (albeit slow).

Yar, there's a big SRS/WOW graphic logo stamped on the back of my iHP-120. Guess iRiver is ahead of its time.

SuSE 9.0 installed without a hiccup on my onboard Hightpoint 374 SATA RAID controller drive without a fuss. So how long is about -8 months.
