I'm being lazy but not vigilantly googling, but does the Bayesian spam filter in Mozilla Mail work with IMAP accounts? Is there a spam filter addin for Outlook? (Preferably free and one that works with IMAP?)
But a Service can send a fake Ctrl-Alt-Del to dismiss the dialog. VNC can do it. I don't think it would actually be that difficult to put up a window that looks like the login screen and collect passwords.
Wow, I didn't know something fairly mainstream like ZDNet would publish an article by RMS. That's interesting because I find his stuff to be usually unreasonable. e.g Calling it Linux instead of GNU/Linux is confusing. Riiighhhttt.
Also, the ethics thing. Who is he to tell me what is morally/ethically right or wrong?
Nope, wrong site. Try Eclipse - it's VERY nice. Once you try refactoring, you'll like it better than VS.NET. It's written in Java but it doesn't feel like a typical slow Java app because it uses SWT, a fast widget toolkit that uses a 100% Java API with the widget implemented natively. It's CVS integration is top notch too.
The big difference, though, is that you have to pay quite the premium price to get a Mac in the "plenty fast enough" range, whereas you can go to dell.com and pick *anything*. In short, the G5 is a toy for the rich until the PPC970 starts showing up in the $1300--with LCD screen--iMac. That will probably happen in January, IMO.
That's a really good point. I've been thinking about it, and I really want a G5, but it's just not worth it at this price point. If it comes in at around $2000 CDN ($1300 USD as you mentioned) in something like an iMac, I'm in. I'll keep my fingers crossed.
That's funny, but I'm not saying they won't get faster, I'm saying they shouldn't announce they will have them in their products. Doing this kind of thing has killed businesses in the past. From this page.
The Osborne 1 "portable" was introduced weighing over 20 pounds with 64kb RAM, two 5.25-inch floppy drives and a 5-inch display for $1795. Production couldn't keep pace with orders. In 1983 Osborne announced a new computer long before they could deliver. People stopped buying the Osborne 1 and the company when bankrupt.
If you are using Firebird you can easily disable it:

Go to the Mac OS X tab on Apple's website and tell me how quickly it takes you to find anything that mentions and links to any of the currently active BSD projects. Looking at the page as it's currently written, it seems as though it'd be pretty easy to neglect the efforts of those groups.
OK, let's be realistic. Mac OS X is a LOT more than just BSD. But the core of it, Darwin, is more based on BSD than any other part. So, I'll go to the Darwin page.
It mentions, right on this front page:
Darwin integrates a number of technologies, most importantly Mach 3.0, operating-system services based on 4.4BSD (Berkeley Software Distribution), high-performance networking facilities, and support for multiple integrated file systems..
And if you go to the Darwin FAQ page. Quote:
The BSD community has been extremely supportive of Apple since we first approached NetBSD, FreeBSD, and others about doing a better job of sharing code. That happened even before we announced Darwin. Now we're pleased to have become an even more active participant in the community.
They don't link to the page, but they acknowledge the projects. Apple would prefer if you used Mac OS X over those other operating systems, because they are a corporation and they make money if you do so. However, there is no denying that the part of Mac OS X that is most heavily based on *BSD (Darwin) acknowledges it.
Interesting tidbit there. Doesn't that make some people want to wait for the extra year? I thought hinting at anything to come in the future was very much against Apple policy.

Hmmm. I thought the whole point of open source was others should be able to incorporate your work into theirs. And now suddenly we are upset that a company is sucessfully doing it?
Hey font geek! What font is the Microsoft logo? Or is it their own? I like that font (honestly).
Ahahah, great post man. I love it.

Ahh yes. Whereas the American media is unbiased and covers any noteworthy event in great detail. That is, unless the government tells them not to.
But a Service can send a fake Ctrl-Alt-Del to dismiss the dialog. VNC can do it. I don't think it would actually be that difficult to put up a window that looks like the login screen and collect passwords.
Probably not a priority - it took FOREVER to get a Canadian Apple Store.

Offtopic? There is a reason that got modded down to -1.
Hehe, I realize you were talking about customers but in terms of OSS developers, that statement is hilarious!
Have you turned over a new leaf or something? Normally your trolls are more subtle!

BTW: Maybe it's just Swing that slow. Try SWT, it feels *much* faster.

Really? Windows OSes like XP Pro cost updwards of $300 no?
3 Models:
1.6GHz $1999
1.8GHz $2399
Dual 2GHz $2999
They announced it will be $129 and ship later in the year. No word if it comes free with new G5s yet.
Musicians, no. But there are only 5 big record companies, and they collude *all the time*.
That's pretty simplistic. "Better" is very relative, and to many people, "better" == "more radio play".
