Indeed, however you may or may not be aware that amtrak was also a party to the design and engineering of the acela trains. IIRC they were built for Amtrak to Amtrak's spec. And besides id you buy something to 'resale' to someone else its also your responsibility it will work correctly for your customer. there is only so much you can put off on your supplier.

One time i was taking the train from NYC to Schenectady (1 stop 20 mins west of albany NY) We get all the way to Albany, and we sit and wait. and for nearly an hour no one tells us why. We finally learn that we are waiting to meet a train from Boston, that hadnt left by the time we arrived in albany. so a 3+ hour trip turns intos a 6+ hour trip. No amount of politics is to blame for that.
Well I know from Amtrak as i rode it for 4 years while dating my wife. And the problem is not trains themselves.. Amtrak problem is Amtrak. the NEC (north east corridor) Is extremely busy and would be close to self sustaining, but any money it makes is used to subsidize the running of otherwise dead rail lines elsewhere. In NYS the train from NY to albany, montreal, and buffalo are nearly always full. So the passengers are there.
But when you get an organization like amtrak, that launches a supposedly 'high speed' service (acela) that is only 15 minutes faster than the normal train on the same route and costs you twice as much to ride, and cost several millions to build, and was late on its maiden voyage (i think it even broke down). Well This is not a problem with train being obsolete, its a problem with the operator, the operator in this case is Amtrak.
I have about a millions seething hate stories about Amtrak. remind me to tell you one some time.
Im going to be flat out with it. I couldnt care less if SCO is being flooded or not. Bad things happen to bad people. By all accounts (other than Darl's) SCO has been disingenuous with everyone. Karma is a bitch but ya know it happens
The plain and simple solution here is that corporations should not be involved in primary law enforcement (tickets for reaching your destination too fast when using a toll device) and corporate should be barred from making a profit on primary law enforcement. (getting a cut from speeding/ red light cameras).
Basically the police have to be the first and primary intervener in these situations.

I wonder if mr self satisfaction actually has a timeline of windows exploits and issued patches. I doubt his wall would be long enough to hang such a thing.
Reading about this really seems to me to be an important break-thru, it started me to think if we are on the border of moving away from a metal/plastic based manufacturing economy toward a carbon based one. For many many everyday uses replacing metal/ plastic. beverage containers can openers and so on. The question i suppose is, does this needs to be recycled ?
does anyone have a timeline of cracked hashes vs computing power? it might be interesting to see if the raw power that is doing the job or better math.

You are indeed correct. However that alone does not make an excuse for the rampant ineptitude of amtrak.
