I was going to moderate this topic but there is something you guys need to know. A while ago there was a lawsuit by some group that proposes building safety standards and such and lobbies state and local govt to institute them into law. This group claimed it was still copyright after they lobbied to get it enacted to law.

Also currently (it appears) that laws are not copyrightable. Why this is trying to be pused thru is beyond me. To make a quick buck for govt? to prevent unfettered access? To use copyright law to prevent the publication of laws for 'national security'? Gives me the willies.

I'll warn you now.. there are going to be very dire consequences to this.

It does mean the gravy train ends. Now many annoyance suits are the bug boys gonna have to be slapped with before they lean on the govt to not allow people (including themselves) to abuse the system?

Really in the larger scheme very lawsuit against a big firm for a patent cranks up the patent annoyance factor and mebbe it will get someone to get off their ass eventually.

The only way to put an end to this is suing with extreme prejudice. one or 2 asshat gets shot down with this and it'll stop getting used.

Its kind of like watching the corporate version of that NYC subway shooter from years ago who defended himself. One of the many things he did was to ask the witnesses to ID the person that had shot them and they all pointed to him. among other amusing bits.
