  1. Aieee!!! on Gran Turismo 4 Demo Quietly Released In U.S. · · Score: 2, Funny

America is handed the shaft again! When will those companies realize that as a culture, americans are much more prone to throw money at something? Give away a million copies of the demo, you'll sell 2 million copies of the game. Thank God for Bit-Torrent and PS2 hacks.... Anyway, the game still looks Awesome, and I hope to have a copy of it opening day - Set up a temt outside the EB in the mall, make a campfire, sing some songs till a guard tries to run me off... Good times, good times.

  2. It Really Works on The DDR Workout - It's Official · · Score: 5, Interesting

It's true! I used to laugh, say I would never play this game. And now, 2 months of DDR have me not only looking better, but feeling better as well. I am active in general - Football and Wrestling - But DDR has something neither of those have. The biggest problem with exersize is it's repetitived nature. But when you can practice a form (specific Dance) and recieve real time data based on your accuracy, it encourages it to repeat. So far, my only health conern has been the sheer addictiveness - I landed wrong on an ankle after a 4 hour marathon session, and was out for a week. But in general, the experience has been nothing but positive. Hope the next one is online - how about a /. competitive league?

  3. Unix Ownership in general... on Groklaw's 'Grokline' To Document *nix History · · Score: 5, Interesting

I think that although this sounds like a great idea simply for the historical and leagal precident, the issue becomes what will it really protect, or prevent? SCO has filed enough hair-brained and far fetched lawsuits, that if anything even resembling this happens in the future, the courts will (hopefully!!!) nip it in the bud of their own accord. If another Million dollar lawsuit about hot coffee hits the docket, the judge will (likely) toss it and hand a summary jugement for physical damage. The legal system is trying to fix itself, finally. But all in all, a good idea - where can I buy the Poster?

There is a difference between sex related content on TV in general and content on a station that broad casts to (lets face it) Males between 13 and 30. There is enough of the lower end of that audience that I honestly believe they should review some of the content. And FYI, I'm a 19 year old male - terrible to think we exist, us young, educated conservatives, isn't it?

  5. Re:Anime stays? on G4TechTV Announced · · Score: 1

The main reason the Anime stays - look at the target audience. I personally like it, but look at the facts. Anime is popular among teens who game + Teens who game watch tv = Put anime on your network, and they will watch it. Honestly, I don't know how long the Anime will survive. Cartoon Network Has an established Presence in this field, and they have options on many major shows. Tech Tv/G4/ Whateva will end up with Indie Anime, And seconds from the big CN. Heard Nickelodean is looking at Anime too - 'cept they're gonna produce their own. Aieee.....

  6. Re:poor unscrewed on G4TechTV Announced · · Score: 1

No offense personally, but Unscrewed is the reason I stopped watching TechTV for a good while. It was vulgar, and downright offensive. Mebbe he can head on over to Comedy Central, where they pander to that crowd. As for myself, when I turn on TechTV, I expect just that - something relating to Technology, not giving away butt plugs to any hooker whose willing to post their website on TV. Come on, I'm not saying he dosen't have a right to put content on the air, but If he's going to foul up a station, push him off onto something designed around it.

  7. Tech Tv... on G4TechTV Announced · · Score: 3, Insightful

I was sorely dissappointed when I returned from an extended leave of absence - years - and discovered that one of my favorite channels, TechTv, had lost almost all the qualities that I used to appreciate. The need for a network preaching tech to the beginning user is past - and some of the content on Tech TV is downright questionable. I have seen very little of G4, but I absolutely love the concept - I hope that G4 benefits from becoming part of a larger network, instead of rotting away in the recesses of a network with an identity crisis. Anime, computer games, and SOME hardware stuff... Not going to name certain shows or hosts (some of them seem to have a fanatical following around here...Leo) That's a network that I could devote some time to. Wired for Sex, Unscrewed in it's current format, and live broadcasts of games I'd rather turn on and play myself? This could fall both ways folks. Let's hope it remains a lifestyle channel, not a public ridicule and stereotypical all-things-that-make-geeks-antisocial montage.

  8. Patches in the near future- on Slow Down the Security Patch Cycle? · · Score: 2, Interesting

Although I believe it is important to focus more on creating a good product out of the door - Dev's take note, buggy releases are more of a headache to fix than to do it right the first time - I feel that in specific instances - online games, optimized databases, web-related code, it is vital that patches are up to current asap. In a game, a bug will be exploited thousands of times before it can be patched (especially larger MMORPG's), and it is only fair that Mission critical software have the latest fixes (although newer should mean better, not just more complicated!) All I'm saying is that it may not be vital that the latest 10-year-old-driver error fix be released as a complete upgrade, requiring downloading of massive files and lengthy installs. PS - While on the subject, is it that difficult to write programs that only change the affected code? Why must we continue to run complete file changes? A simple program that fixes the code is sufficient, and we get a massive chunck of data, most of which is repetitive. Sorry, some of us have broadband, but some of them don't. And even a couple of megs gets to be a big issue.

Really, must these liberal whiners continue to degrade the march of science based solely on their opinion? I eat genetically engineered food, and there's nothing wrong with me! And besides, the third hand really helps to type! Seriously, though, It really comes down to what is necessary for survival. Glo-Fish? Faddish, but really laying the groundwork for the next generation of bio-reactors. And franken food? There's already a huge industry out there for "Organic" food, why can't both co-exist? I'll take my golden rice steamed, and my Kobe Beef fresh from the secluded, beer fed haven it grew up in.

  16. How well does this reflect on their ratings scheme on Aussies Ban GTA3 · · Score: 0

How well does this reflect on their ratings scheme as a whole? Are any games targeted at mature audiences containing mature enough content? What happens to Soldier of fortune II when it is released? Will they just not allow it to be sold? I think it's about time to look at ratings systems, especially in our own country. What gives a person who made a decision on what was mature content even 10 years ago the right to affect decisions today? 10 years ago, the most violence found in entertainment was in games whose reality was determined by the power of the system. If a game wanted realism, it contained .mov's to enhance the gameplay. Now, games like Max Payne present an engaging story immersed in a realistic gaming experience. One thing these games have in common was that they were targeted specifically at an older crowd. Kids dont learn to shoot guns from games, and anyone old enough to pay for his own game has the right to select what s/he wants to play. Movies (another archaic system, but more effective by far) require an ID to purchase tickets for films above a certain level of rating, they dont simply refuse to sell tickets at all. Most stores now require the same for games, but based on a faulty system. What we need is less censorship and more intelligence on the part of the lesislators who create the environment that such a game could be legally banned for content in. TJ_Phazerhacki
