Why would the military want to use external software? They custom create most of their critical software, including OS and apps/utils inhouse. Anything that isn't critical, will probably be cheaper to go with Solaris, or VxWorks, or something else that is supported, and less of a security risk than linux or windows. Both of which have loads of problems, and are popular with the public, thus more people have knowledge on how to circumvent its security.
Hun? Someone want to explain to me how this is worthy of a nobel prize? I understand that it is neat... but how does it better our society? A cure for AIDS would be much more worthy, even if it isn't as technically challenging IMHO... Wasn't the prize supposed to be about the best scientific discovery that helps society???
The support from corporate america is probably because Microsoft has told them if they don't support their cause, then the next version of Windows will be 10x as expensive...
What? The Government actually works?? I love the legal system...
But wait, what does this really mean? Microsoft will continue on its merry way... Whats the punishment? Or are we still arguing over what the charges are...???
Can we use this against taxi drivers, the next morning when we sober up and realize that fastest route from the bar to our house was not the 45 mile route the driver took...???
Perhaps I missed something, but why don't they just use their satellite uplinks??? Why use these crappy videophones that look worse than streaming video on a 56k modem?
I'd much rather be watching 30 minute old footage, then grainy 'live' (2 minute delayed) 'images'. Why don't they just record them with a standard handheld camera, send the tape to a nearby satellite uplink site, and beam it back to CNN???
and besides, I have seen CNN rewind 'LIVE' events before my eyes... When they put the little 'LIVE' Icon on the screen that don't mean crap... Just watch CNN for a few hours and watch them do it... Pausing/Rewinding of LIVE feeds happens way too often...
Do you honestly expect managment to listen to their engineers??? Just take a look at the past for tons of examples that prove my point... Management of large corporations don't ever listen to their employees until after the customer backlash... and then they always end up blaming the employees or their customers...
They weren't kidding when the said 'blazing fast'... little did they know they were talking about the users themselves after having used the computer...
Does this mean all those people layed off at Nortel might get their jobs back???
I thought that the companies weren't laying fiber anymore (or at least greatly reduced the amount they are laying)... Did I miss something, or are backbones linked via some medium other than fiber?
This looks sweet, and it's cheaper than one of those LCD touch screen remote controls I was thinking of getting... Does it have an IR port that can be reprogrammed to work like a universal remote control for my entertainment system???
No way! your battery would die within minutes... Think about how much SMS messaging there is, and imagine your phone relaying just 0.01% of that. That would be about 10 messages a minute... Sending and receiving, with verification packets to boot... Battery life would drop big time on any phone implementing this scheme.
I just copyrighted all the possible combinations of pulse dialing tones too... ahhahahahhah... you all owe me 0.05 cents per use... I'm rich!! I'm rich!!! ahaahhahahha
Did I miss something? Isn't it a federal crime (aka terrorist act) to send unsolicited email? Or was that just a proposal... So hard to tell the facts from rumours these days...
Either way, I don't see why these spammer lists can't be made public... I wouldn't mind taking the law into my own hands and sentencing these spamming bastards...
How do they (the government, security agencies, etc) expect to spy on everyone to find terrorists, etc. While forcing businesses to not even share customer info between their own departments? Crazy... Just plain crazy!
Subjective statements and reviews are pointless... I want to see objective views... This is better than that because this has 'X' would be good. It may actually prevent pointless bashing...
Nah, I say non computer literate users... that is the biggest risk...
Think of the chaos one could start by simply emailing everyone instructions on how to 'protect your system', while in reality sending instructions on how to disable their firewalls... The amount of people that would fall for it would be insane!
No, I say the biggest vulnerability is lack of knowledge and ignorance.
What kind of hogwash is this? User friendly has nothing to do with security holes...
One has nothing to do with the other. I can make Windows NT 4 air tight, and it still has all the user friendly features it started with (sorry, don't have enough Linux experience to make the claim, but I'm sure its doable). This security vs user interface crap comes from those who either don't know how to code, or do know how to code, and are too lazy to worry about making it 'look perty'...
Please, please, please, let this horrible association between good UI and bad security die here and now...
Perhaps having to provide a technically viable solution, not actually built, but buildable at the time of the patent application should be required. Hypothetical fantasy crap should not be patentable... IMHO anyway...
Sweet... Can we use this new technology to ease the congestion over the trans-atlantic/pacific backbones???

only if companies start to use 'dark fibers'... which I doubt will happen in the present state of the economy...
Any technology we have, our enemies can get/have... Whats the point?

It's not affordable... Even on a software developer's salary, I can't buy one... bah!
I guess I'll just have to wait six months before it comes down to the sub $3000 market...
My question is, how did billing for the service work in the first place?
Umm, account #12344234 owes us $300... but we don't know who it is, or where he lives...
I think their business model didn't work... the collections department had nothing to do...

Exactly... once microsoft stops supporting it, it becomes secure...

Well, I definetly qualify as an idiot... but what to patent??? hmmm...
How about patenting the art of patenting stupid patents...??? I'll be rich!!!
