Here is the *really* light description and some other info to start.
http://www.mormon.org/learn/0,8672,1117-1,00.htm l
Bascally, we believe that our spirits existed before we were born, and that this life is one step in God's plan for our progression. Satan believed that we should be forced into compliance, for our own good. This however, is contrary to Gods design, in which we must act, and choose for ourselves.
No, that is an absolute crock actually. Yes, I am LDS, and at the moment I actually live in Utah. If any member of our church here, or anywhere else practiced this act, they would immediatley be put in front of a disciplinary council. This is *not* allowed at all. What you describe is called adultery, or fornication, as the case may be, and is completely forbidden.
http://scriptures.lds.org/james/2 for those who actually want to read without leaving the screen:)
The whole chapter is important, giving a great example, which is most notably, summed up in verse 24, and 26.
Moral: you need faith. And the sign of truly having faith, is acting upon the principles you have faith in. Otherwise it is for naught. If you don't exercise your faith, then you really dont' have any.
>if Jesus is Satan's brother, then either Satan is also God or Jesus is not.
*or*, there is a belief in what happened before this earth, and that satan is, as described in the bible, a fallen angel. We are all children of God, and Satan was one too. He fell, and took his followers. Christ however offered to be the sacrifice needed for the Fathers plan. He made the perfect sacrifice, so that we may be saved. Satan, as us, was our brother, but fell from glory.
>Mormons believe Jesus Christ is the spirit brother of Lucifer. The Bible teaches Lucifer is a fallen angel, and that Jesus Christ is Lord.
http://www.mormon.org/learn/0,8672,791-1,00.html
>Mormons believe they are saved through works; entire books of the Bible (Galatians, Romans) teach against that principle.
that would be Faith and works. Big difference. And the book do not teach against works, they talk about the importance of faith. Just like they teach about the importance of works. "Faith without works is dead" is a quote that pretty much sums that up.
>Mormons believe there are many gods.
Read the above link for what we actually believe. We have one Father in heaven.
> But now you know that they are NOT Christians;
Do please explain. http://scriptures.lds.org/a_of_f/1 #1, WE abelieve in God, the Eternal Father, and in His Son, Jesus Christ, and in the Holy Ghost. Yeah, that doesnt' sound Christian at all
>The LDS Church uses words to sound Christian, they even claim to be so, but they are not.
Now that *really* doesn't make sense. We say we aren't, but we can't be. We must all be lying hunh? So when we say we worship our heavenly Father, We believe in the Atonement of Christ, and in the Gift of the Holy Ghost. Do tell, what am I really saying? Are these all magical codewords or something?
Interesting, so tell me, have you taken your blood offerings to the levites recently? Better be careful, by typing that message you might have done too much work for the sabbath.
No, God is unchanging. He has caused laws to be changed for man, depending on their ability to act, as well as the need. If you look at the historical reasons for why the LDS practiced poligamy, it's also easy to see why there was a reason to stop when they did.
>Actually, there are many Mormons practicing plural marriage
Umm, no actually. There are people practicing illegal poligamy, but the church does not sanction it. Quite the opposite actually. That is something the church has zero tolerance for.
How about finding a replacement battery controller card? Hard to find, and expensive to fix. My old dell needs one, and only dell seems to be able to fix it (for quite the fee). My brothers compaq has the same problem. The battery itself is fine, but the card that controls the charging and such wont' do a thing.
Actually the money spent on such missions would likely lead to the reduction in fossil fuels as you want. The development would be funding large amounts of research into other forms of enerygy (fuel to get there, better batteries/generation for the people in there or on a station). Not to mention the new materials, and research to be found in other worlds, and in lower gravities.
Face it, just working on the energy would be great, but that is also something that has to be done to achieve this goal.
Who cares about his, or anyones personal reasoning. This is a very good thing for us if it gets done.
Great. Nice digital scan, no mush's. Makes it nicer when getting certain weapons permits, applying to certain jobs, and more.
And like it's just the US that has used this kinda stuff before. Brasil still has my prints on file for going there.
The government would have no trouble tracking me in any number of other ways if they wanted. This one is actually a little bit more secure than the other ones.
Oh yes, we do, hence the link to the protest (as an example). But the message is regarding to the fact that every time our town is mentioned on slashdot, it has to do with their crap. Not exactly shedding a nice light on us.
You think it's bad living in the same town as a small grade spammer, try having to be a linux user in the same town as one of slashdot's favorite companies
Talk about not wanting to show your face at times.
Then again, it's a great chance to start doing something about it.
In the PR, they say the cash is for development, but then stowell opens his mouth and...
The new cash sends a message. "For anyone out there that was doubting we had the necessary funds to fund that litigation, they should rest easy now," Stowell said.
it's what his daughter is being pressured to say.
No, it's not that at all. This guy is divorced, does not share the same religion (athiest vs christian) as his family, and is apparently quite bitter still about the divorce (sorry, no links, but summarizing reporting from the last time this was big news). This man does not take care of his child. And the kid does not like the dad's case. Apparently, this kid feels quite differently than the dad does, which is why part of the supreme court case is seeing if he really has the right to bring the case (because he's acting *for* his daughter).
Talk about being pressured in what to say, she doesn't even get to say anything in court, her biological father is saying things for her. I'd say that he's pushing religion much more than she is.
See, the difference is, you are saying God is a name specific to a religion. People seem to associate the word God with Christian religion.
The important thing here is that God is a title, a term for a supreme diety. It is not the name for the Diety, just a title. God is Allah if you are islamic, and has different names if you are Jewish, or Christian (and even varies depending on your christianity!).
That's why I don't see a problem with the term under God. It means a belief in a higher power. It does not say that you are a member of any specific religion, organized or not. You may be agnostic, druidic, christian, islamic, shinto, or something else, the term God applies to all of them.
Basically, each of us may have a different picture of what is behind that term, but it signifies a belief in something better than us.
Sure, it costs them some when you buy it, although that amount is dropping the more that are sold.
What Microsoft gains out of it though is the ability to walk into a game shop, and tell them to build exclusivly for the xbox, because they know that there are exactly $Xboxes out there that can run their game.
In the console market, that is a powerful thing. You can't get an exclusive game, without a good promise on returns, and you dont' get that without a large market segment.
The big problem is, explaining to the concept of PGP, web of trust, etc.. to people who still aren't understanding that you need to update your computer, and not click on every attachment.
I can't say I fully agree with that. While the book may seem redundant for the experienced perl programmer, I just finished it and would definately say it fits it's target market. I know a bunch of developers who started with the llama, went to the camel, but lost out on the good info that this puts inbetween. Some kinda Oreo Cream filling between the llama and camel.
I would definately recommend this book to the developers who are at that stage of their development. It's a useful tutorial style book for those who are learning. It doesn't pretend to be a reference, or do things it shouldn't. It does it's job, and does it well.
I'm just mad that this was posted, since I was going to submit my review this week.
Yeah, but RedHat is actually trying to develop Code, and *real* products. SCO on the other hand is unencumbered with these frivolous, expensive details, and can focus it's assets entirely on litigation (and mcbrides wallet).
Well, I hate the concept of overly broad patents, and the litigation process that is so taken advantage of today. But I can't quite bring myself to root for microsoft on this one *yet*. This article just doesn't have enough info about the patents invovled. For all we know, from this article, they could be very good examples of the patent process at work (which would be a refreshing change this day and age).
Anybody have a good link on the actual patents, and what exactly (sure drm, but what aspects of it) are being challenged?
So, the big question. How long until GCC can compile it :)
>What happened before ?

Careful, moderate talk like that will get you permanently branded as an arch-conservative here on /.
Remember, extreme beliefs are the norm here, but only in one direction.

... to see a bios blue-screen.
The dual's are nice, but their quality falls behind their newer MX series. especially the 5 and 700 mice.
Most of the original Caldera folks are long gone. There are very few programmers still there, and only because nobody else is hiring.
