In fact, when they were selling linux on machines you could configure two exact systems - one with linux and one with windows, and the windows box was always around $200 less than the same linux box!
Hmmm, in my experience buying Dell servers and workstations, it was either the same price with Linux or Windows 2K, or in most cases it was a few hundred dollars less with Linux.
What a coincidence, I am sitting in the computer lab right now TA'ing a software design class where the students are working in teams. The way that we try to reduce the "slackers" is by allowing everyone to change teams after every lab. Groups can also to refuse to let someone in their group if they are a known slacker (or actually for any reason).
Exactly my point. If a kid who knows basic boolean algebra (XOR) can create encrypted messages that defy the best decryption, what the hell is this about?
Your encryption method is highly unpractable. For example, how do you plan to give the decryption key to the recipient of the message? The encryption/decryption key is the same size as the original message, so you are faced with the same problem. If you can securely transmit the encryption/decryption key, then why not just securely transmit the message?
Yes, I am aware that one time pads are used by some governments, but that is an extremely expensive and inefficient system.
People like Samo, Jackie Chan, Chuck Norris and Jet Li would all acknowledge without
hesitation that Bruce Lee is the father of the modern martial arts movie. Heck, Samo and Norris even got their starts in acting appearing in Bruce Lee movies. (Yes they are that old, and so is Chan)
Jackie Chan himself got his start in movies as an extra in Bruce Lee movies.
Is it just me, or is anyone else too overwhelmed by this news to understand exactly what it means? After everything we have heard from Microsoft in recent weeks wrt open source, this seems to be quite a shock (assuming this is true). We will have to wait and see if this actually works out for Ximian and the Mono developers.
This could be one of the biggest news stories in the history of software development.
My math teacher in high school (the best high school teacher that I had) used to tell us about how he and his friends used to carry their slide rules around in holsters. When someone had a math problem, they would would whip out their slide rules from their side holsters and see who could do the computation the fastest!
Don't judge an upcoming laptop based upon other machines in the same family from several years ago. At my company everyone has a vaio and they are solid machines, and ultra portable. The construction is quite solid in my opinion. And you can get a longer warranty than 6 months, depending on where you get it.
You can listen to Microsoft's response to the outcome by dialing 1-800-934-7969. I am listening to it right now so I can't really give a good analysis of it, but it is interesting so far.
Just look at Star Wars. What was considered "fairly original" in 1977 was still able to produce enormously successful sequels. If you don't believe that a good plot is enough to carry a movie, then what does it take? Because other than its plot, The Matrix doesn't have anything else that distances itself from any other movie (other than Trinity:).
I agree with you in that the sequels are going to be successful, and I hope that they are just as exciting as the original.
An interesting point to note is the fact that when you make a copy of a VHS tape, you lose a certain amount of quality on each copy. So if you have a "fifth-generation" copy of a movie on VHS then there will be a noticeable loss in quality. On the other hand, with DVD there is no loss of quality whatsoever even for a "hundredth-generation" copy since it is all digital. Thus a copy will be exactly the same as the original.
I am currently a student and am taking a graduate class in Data Security (AC has helped me more than I can say here). I am very interested in this field, and was wondering what you would recommend a young person like myself do in order to gain experience in the field. For example, NSA internship, working for a software company, research assistant, working for you:), etc. Thanks.
Casting Leo in SW would be a *horrible* choice. In the theater where I saw TPM, there was a trailer for an upcoming Leo movie. The booing was so loud I couldn't even hear the trailer! I think it is obvious that Star Wars fans and Leo fans don't overlap very much...

One reason that computers inevitably will beat us humans is that each year, computers get exponentially faster.
Sweet, where do you get your hardware?

That's a good point. This is the guy who wrote vi.
Actually they said that World War Four would be fought with rocks and sticks. And I forgot who said it as well.
One criteria though is anonymity. How would your
system address this?

Unfortunately, the HP-48x calculators infrared ports don't have a very big range, something on the order of 18 inches or so. :(
