But, and here's the rub, the replies are generally on topic relative to the thread. Offtopic isn't truly accurate. Mod down the parent to preserve that precious S/N ratio, but modding down EVERY SINGLE RESPONSE is intentional punishment of those who dare speak. I was ever so slowly accumulating karma. A point here, two points there, the occasional (and unexpected) four points. I was at, what, ten points? Considering the fact that I tend to say things that piss moderators off, this was a minor accomplishment. I read every single reply to a topic that catches my eye. I browse at -1 without visible moderation because I trust my own ability to determine what is worth reading and what is not. Moderation has no effect on what I can see. But it has an effect on what I can say, if not what I will say. This is fair - I have my own website if I need to speak. But the way it is done, out of accordance with the Slashcrew's professed ideals, with extreme disrespect and arrogance, is wrong.
True, the parent post wasn't absolutely accurate, but didn't you find the apparent -1 Offtopic bitchslap script situation meaningful? This isn't being used to keep the Goatman's ass away from squeamish citizens, it's being used to devalue the people who disagree. And it's probably hit you, too.
Yeah. I pay for music. See, I don't like record companies, so I just buy music online from bands I like. If that's not an option, well, I break down and buy the cd, but since I hate most music put out by the big guys, it all works out. MP3.com had some good stuff, particularly Americana (which is my personal choice)

Offtopic, but this is about the mod post you did - the fucking thing seems to be locked, won't allow posts. Fuck the asswipes who pull this shit (yes, editors, this means you)

Not that I have anything to add, but I haven't seen any new replies to this thread...which makes me wonder if it's modded to hell (I browse at -1 without showing moderation) or if it got stale...or is it blocked? I suppose I'll find out when I try and post this.

No. It has long been recognized that one of the goals of computation is to make machine time less expensive than programmer time. Optimized, non portable code isn't worth the extra time it takes to create. My time is best spent writing solving high level problems, not low level ones. Let megahertz clean up the gory details.
No. A poll is *supposed* to present a balanced view of a larger population. By arming yourself with statistics that reflect a subset of a population you are not proving anything except that you will accept anything that supports your point of view - this is not making an informed decision, it is defending an emotional position.
Linux? Original? Nope. Cloning Unix has been done, using a diverse group of developers has been done, giving it away has been done. Sure, Linux is very successful, but not original. That said, this thread is a load of shit. No one has a lock on innovation.
Shoot, it costs me *nothing* to keep my ears free of those sounds. I don't listen to the radio. I don't watch TV. I don't go to the mall. Now, this does not mean I won't someday hear the occasional bit of crap from one of the people you mentioned, but it certainly cuts down the chances of it happening.
Why do you report impossible operating system/server combinations ?
Webservers that operate behind a caching system, load balancer, reverse proxy server or a firewall may sometimes report the operating system of the intermediate machine. Hence reports of 'Microsoft/IIS on Linux' may indicate that either the web server is behind a Linux server that is acting as a reverse proxy, or has configured the Akamai caching system such that the first request to the site goes to one of Akamai's servers [which run Linux], or as in the case of www.walmart.com has been configured to send a misleading signature.
I don't know that this is necessarily the case, but it may have bearing on the matter.

Right. Like the article says people are doing. Remember the article? The one you read before...oh.
Well...I had no need to look it up. I happen to know that a cellphone is the same thing as a cellular telephone. I felt safe in assuming that the shortened version would be cellphone and not celphone...but because you told me to, I looked it up. Like what I found?
Oh, and Google found about 196,000 results for cellphone, but it only found about 14,200 results for celphone
I was surprised by the number of links to celphone, but I ascribe many of them to misspellings. True, some were to non-English language sites, but I don't think this is what you were trying to say.
"Now if I had only installed debian on this machine, and not RedHat... but 6 weeks of uptime on a personal computer is too much to throw away."
Who gives a shit about uptime? I mean, if you are saying you don't want to trash a stable config, good. But if you are saying you don't want to migrate to what you *really* want because it'll make you start your uptime count all over again, bad.

Thank you. We now return you to your regularly scheduled crack-smoking.

Not sure. everything in my pockets, for starters.
Of course, I'm going deaf, so maybe it won't be a problem.
ooh, get ready to be modded down. I mentioned that Linux, though nice, is not a "new" development and was pissed on by some SlashDork

"Yeah, but with the touchpads I always find myself accidently double clicking."
You know that you can turn that off in software, right? Or simply increase the doubleclick speed to minimize accidental triggering.

...of course, it doesn't really say that and Sr. Brento is just making a funny.

Maybe they just, um, are delisted due to paranoia, perhaps justified?
