All they have to do is make the graphics card render slightly faster than before, and people will find a use for it. CAD markets spend lots on this, which brings the price down for regular joes. If you can cut 30 seconds off of a complex render, then you have saved the company thousands of dollars per employee per year.

Funny you say that, when G.W. has effectively sidestepped congress (read: the elected representatives) in his pursuit of the war.
Your media is not paid for, it is leased. They can recall that lease at any time with Palladium. If you're used to paying for your software, then you'll get used to renting it fairly easy. $40/mo is what I pay for my internet, NOT my os!
I think that you'll have more than just the MTV top 30. You'll have all factions, the Goths and their Euro-industrial, the Preps with their Pop countdown, the wrench heads with their death metal, etc...
Then we'll all meet in the parking lot and fight. All except the nerds because they will have mellowed out to Chopin.
Hopefully they release linux based software to manage the phones as well. The company that I work for has 200+ phones in operation, most of which are very restricted. Each time a new phone is introduced, we have to program the company telephone book, and disable keypad, internet, displayed phone number, etc. It is a pain in the ass to have to drag out the laptop to do this each time a phone breaks, or we add a new phone. On the plus side, we just upgraded to the simcard based phones, so we don't have to reprogram a defective unit, just new ones now. Just pop out the old card, stick it into a spare and go.
Xmame can be compiled ou use gl, sdl, etc... and there are some speed ups that you can do at compile time. The biggest drawback to running it without the SDL/GL stuff is that when you play some games fullscreen, they have a black border on each side (about 1/6th the screen). I also use the gxmame frontend. Not too pretty, but it gets the job done. I'm actually looking around my hometown for a cabinet, controls, etc that I can work with.
As for the "good 2d performance", some cards do 2d better than others. I'm using an Asus v7100 Magic and it seems to handle the X11 fine, without pushing too much to the processor.
Lotsa good links. Rob Malda's home page has some good info. Check out Happ Controls for buttons etc.
I use a Celeron 300A (clocked to 450) on Slacware Linux and Xmame, compiled for X11, and most games run alright. If you have more horsepower I suggest using the SDL library for your games (I'm also running it in a 1280x1024 window because it's my desktop machine, so I don't know how it will run under 640x480).
Mame is severly cpu dependant, so beef up there. Also get a good graphics card that does 2d well. You don't have to overkill.
That is an absolutly baffling game! (The fact that I don't speak Japanese adds to the confusion). Download it and play it, and you'll marvel at how it even made it as an arcade.
Hey, you just hit the nail on the head! Being that the USPTO gave out these patents, they have to license the technology to use the database that they filed the patent into!
THEY SLIT THEIR OWN THROAT! They've dismissed prior art in giving the patent, thereby proving their ignorance!
Actually, it does. Try watching a movie under WMP after installing winamp. It bitches about not being the default app and asks you if you want to switch everything back. I've never seen that in another os. Ever.
I hate to inform you, but the outlook holes are Microsoft's fault! They are the ones who programmed the executable handlers to not check what type of file was there (whether it be an exe posing as a pif file, or a screensaver).
That's a bullshit mod, and if the guy who did it would have checked the time of each post, he would have seen that your post was at MOST 1 minute 59 seconds later. How a bout a bit of leeway here mods?

Give with the left hand, take with the right....

Oh that hurts, no really. Oh my god I'm going to get spammed. Oh no.
Box office wizardry: New 'Harry Potter' movie hauls in $87.7 during opening weekend
Good enough?

It'll be like high school all over again.
What industry do you work in?

No, but at times she had some Scot in her...
Leave it to the British to use the word as it was meant to be, and not a slur. Bravo!
Nice try, but still not as good as the one in my sig. Incedentally, if you know who did it, post.
Was going for the Karma bonus box...

You mean two buttons, one being the credit button. What a game! And that was an arcade. Imagine the quarters dumped into that thing.

But you also need excel 97, and windows 95. And being as licensing has run out on win 95, and soon win98, it becomes a slippery slope.
Send them a bill for your copy of MS Office, and send it each time you have to upgrade. Maybe then they'll get the point.

What a freaking world!
Ummm, actually, in Gnome there is.
Applications->Desktop Preferences->Advanced->Preferred Applications works for me.
Go peddle FUD elsewhere.

Yeah, assuming the next guy is Hugh Hefner.
I cut down trees, I wear High-heels, suspenders and a bra. I wish I was a girlie, just like my dear Papaaaaaaaa!
Somebody had to do it.
If it were a toss up between MS and Unix, Plato would have used Unix.
I'm all about the ancient Greek Philosophers. Fo' Sho!
